250£/week on groceries for 2 people!

How crazy is it? We buy everything organic and don't have ready meals.
Strictly speaking, we can afford it (i.e. we still can save some money at the end of the month), yet it seems to me quite of a huge amount. Unfortunately it's not something I can control, since she manages the orders. I read that 2 people should spend around 100 a week!
We are in London.
Note: the bill also include shower gel, toilet rolls. etc...

Well obv everyone will say £250 a week for 2 people is insane

But if you can afford it what's the issue

InDubiousBattle · 13/03/2023 18:07

Do you buy a lot of booze? £250 is a lot for 2 people.

CucumberCool · 13/03/2023 18:09

Where are you shopping? Harrods?

Lovemusic33 · 13/03/2023 18:10

Why are you posting if you can afford it? Just to brag?

I spend £50 a week for 2 of us (teen and me),I don’t eat organic because I can’t afford too but I do mainly cook from scratch. I don’t drink so no booze.

Hellocatshome · 13/03/2023 18:10

If you can afford it what is your problem? And if you dont like the way "she" does the shopping why don't you do it instead?
For what it's worth we spend £150 per week for a family of 4 plus 3 cats and a dog.

FrogOnSaturn · 13/03/2023 18:10

Well we can afford it, yet it would be nice to save more for retirement or have holidays...

GiltEdges · 13/03/2023 18:10

It's not horrific, providing you can afford it. However you could probably shop a lot more cheaply, if you wanted/needed to and still buy organic etc.

Rolomuffin · 13/03/2023 18:11

That is a lot! We spend around £100 a week for two and we eat a lot of meat, alcohol and don't buy much in terms freezer stuff. My husband has a big appetite and I snack a lot so we buy plenty of food. Organic costs a bit more but not that much more!

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/03/2023 18:11

Is this a weird stealth boast or just a really tone deaf post?

CitrusHaze · 13/03/2023 18:12

Where do you shop out of interest?

spelunky · 13/03/2023 18:12

There's really no 'should'.

It's completely up to you what you want to spend and what you prioritise.

Some people saying it's insane might be spending £300 a month on deliveroo and meals out, and £200 on fast fashion. If you put that money into healthy organic produce then good for you.

Loveyoutomatoes · 13/03/2023 18:12

You must be shopping somewhere like Sainsbury's OP. £250 a week is a lot.

FrogOnSaturn · 13/03/2023 18:13

CitrusHaze · 13/03/2023 18:12

Ocado and Abel&Cole.

We spend around £100 ish a week on food, toiletries, cleaning stuff etc. for 2 of us. Don’t buy organic or anything especially fancy. Asda delivery most weeks and top up at local Waitrose. Do buy most meat from local butcher. Though we also eat out twice a week which is £50 ish each time. It’s gone up so much over past year though I really notice it now.

TunicFox · 13/03/2023 18:14

We shop at Waitrose and spend £100-150 a week. But it could easily be more if we weren't budget conscious and just got what we fancied. Each to their own.

Fromwetome · 13/03/2023 18:14

Genuine question, if you can afford it and £250 a week or £125 per person is affordable for you for 7 days worth of food, then what is the point of your post other than to humble brag how much you can spend on food in the middle of a cost of living crisis?

FrogOnSaturn · 13/03/2023 18:14

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/03/2023 18:11

Nah...I am quite depressed about it. Also, boasting while posting anonymous wouldn't make much sense to me.

It's a lot when I shop at ocado it's 140 for 2 adults and 1DC cat is separate.

Chenford · 13/03/2023 18:14

We spend £125-£150 a week for 4.

£250 a week for 2 is crazy. £13k a year!

FrogOnSaturn · 13/03/2023 18:10

If you dont want to spend £250 whybdont you do the shopping instead of whoever "she" is?

Fifi0000 · 13/03/2023 18:15

I also buy loads of m&s ready meals so you must be buying gold plated food 🤣🤣

PeekAtYou · 13/03/2023 18:15

I spend about £100pw for teen days and I. Tbh we could reduce it more but I can afford it and we enjoy food.

spelunky · 13/03/2023 18:16

If you're earning enough then it's not 'crazy', it's all relative.

What you put into your body is one of the most important things you can choose to spend money on.

People prioritise different things.

holierthanthou73 · 13/03/2023 18:16

So what’s the question/point of your thread? 🤷🏻‍♀️ or just bragging?

SpinningFloppa · 13/03/2023 18:17

Sounds like a lot I spend £200 a week on me and 4 kids but that includes packed lunches. People have said that is a lot
so £250 for 2 does seem a crazy amount.
