£200 payment oil/biomass

Just incase anyone hadn’t heard about the government paymet for oil heating /biomass properties … some might need to apply for it. It’s due next month. I only recently found out about it.

The government is also providing a further £200 Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) to help those households in Great Britain who use alternative fuels such as biomass or heating oil to meet energy costs this winter. Most households eligible for the AFP support in Great Britain, will receive payment automatically via their electricity supplier in February, with no need to take any action. Those households who will need to apply for the AFP, for example because they do not have a relationship with an electricity supplier, will be able to do so in February, through the same GOV.UK portal as the one that will be used to apply for support under the EBSS Alternative Funding scheme.

Thanks @Wafflefudge and @pissssedofff . I randomly had my direct debit payment returned today.

This is the second time this month I've had it returned so assuming it's connected!

I built up a lot of credit so they were paying the £67 into my bank account. Then they put the DD down to £65 and because it's less than the £67 they return that instead!

I'm assuming similar here and I'll get the rest credited to my account but when I phoned earlier they couldn't access their systems. So I have a payment, just not all of it.....yet!

Chasingsquirrels · 16/02/2023 17:42

Shell Energy anyone?

Ricco12 · 17/02/2023 14:29

@WednesdaysPlaits yes I got email today saying it will be credited in February direct to electric account.

Does anyone know if I would be eligible for this I have a gas fire but oil fired central heating. TIA

Bemyclementine · 19/02/2023 09:31

Is it mains gas @notgivinga or a bottle? I use a bottle for the cooker, no mains gas, oil c/h, abd was eligible

I don't t think you'll be eligible if you're on mains gas supply.

notgivinga · 19/02/2023 10:16

I have mains gas so guess I'm not eligible then oh well

Defiantlynot41 · 19/02/2023 15:28

@Chasingsquirrels not yet but fingers crossed. Oil is down in price at the moment so I'm waiting to top up.

I ordered 1,000L on Friday!

Defiantlynot41 · 19/02/2023 16:50

Cheeky ask @Chasingsquirrels , how much did you pay per litre? Am currently looking at 74.3p/litre, Down from the horrendous 120.0p/litre but far from the low 20ps of lockdown!

Chasingsquirrels · 19/02/2023 17:43

Boilerjuice was 71.99 plus service charge. I phoned my usual supplier (who is usually cheaper anyway but wasn't) and the said they'd match, amd then rounded down very slightly.

Calmdown14 · 20/02/2023 12:19

An update from Utilita if anyone else is wondering about payments.

I never got an email but did randomly get my DD refunded. As my monthly DD is lower than £200 I didn't get the full amount.

I requested it as I am already well in credit. They agreed although I had to give my meter readings first which is a little annoying as this is meant to pay a different bill and they are only handling it.

So if anyone else receives a random amount, it's probably this logic.

Hebridean · 20/02/2023 20:04

I don't think they should be doing that @Calmdown14. I've not heard of any other companies doing it that way. My monthly DD is less than £200 but SSE sent me the whole lot. When were they planning on paying you the rest? We're they just going to keep refunding your DD amounts until they get to £200?

JaffavsCookie · 20/02/2023 21:00

Anyone had it from M and S energy ( becoming fully part of Octopus in March) had a ridiculously waffly and vague email from them in reply to my query as to when I would be getting it

Defiantlynot41 · 21/02/2023 21:57

@Chasingsquirrels that is a really good rate. We got our £200 from Shell Energy today

Calmdown14 · 21/02/2023 22:03

@Hebridean it annoyed me too. They credited the rest to my electric bill but that's not what it's for. It's to buy other fuel.

The refund is now pending but I didn't see why it should be dependent on my electric readings (especially as I'm already £500 in credit!) Or why I am waiting up to another 10 days.

Just checked my Shell account, but nothing showing.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/02/2023 22:11

And oil (ordered last Thu) was delivery by 27th but I had a text yesterday to say delivery would be today. I wasn't quite as low as I thought & the tank only took 828L against the 1,000L ordered.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 21/02/2023 22:14

@JaffavsCookie I'm with M&S energy and haven’t had anything yet. Mind you they haven’t billed me since December despite me sending in meter readings. I’ve continued to pay my DD and get the Government payment so I’m now a ridiculous amount in credit.

Agree, the whole point was that you could buy alternative fuel with it, not top up your electric account. They clearly begrudge paying it.

Defiantlynot41 · 21/02/2023 22:25

@Chasingsquirrels it was in our bank account, not in the Shell account!

Oh! I wasn't expecting that - just checked my bank and mine has been paid today as well 🙂.

Got my edf one today into bank account 👍

Diversion · 23/02/2023 22:38

Managed to get an answer on chat from EDF today who advised that payment will be in our bank by 28th February. Presuming that this goes off our postcode and not the fact that every other house in the road has gas as we do not.
