Got ID’d last night at supermarket. Showed my drivers licence and they wouldn’t accept it. So no wine for us. Apparently over here if you dare to look under 30 they will ask for ID. I took it as a compliment. As I’m closer to being 40 than 30! Ha

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 23/12/2022 20:37

Sounds like you are having a great time Em 👏🤗

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/12/2022 20:55

I can quite believe we are headed for an egg. Shortage

boo no wine but winner onlooking 30

Ahem <under 30> haha!

I have also just been to other shop and wasn’t ID’d. 😂

CurlsandCurves · 23/12/2022 22:50

Aw @Gensola what a rubbish time you’re having, hope you feel better soon xx

Butchers today. 2kg of beef, a dozen sausages , 2 dozen rashers of bacon, a large pork pie and a large Stilton topped pie £47. Worth every penny it’s just the best.

Got the boys booked in for a haircut tomorrow which works out well as I can nip to the local shop for the ever expanding ’last few bits’ list

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/12/2022 08:43

sorry em , under 30

nsd today as we are done

Get well soon Gen
No eggs at all in Morrisons when I went yesterday spent £76 on drink beer for dh kopperberg for dc and j20 etc to take to dsis for Christmas lunch and nibbles
dm who is staying at dsis since her leak now has a foot infection so £8 in boots getting dressings as she got the one the dr put on wet already no idea what has caused it as she’s not cut or banged her foot

plans for today are to go to dm to empty the fridge and freezer as it will all need binning as the electrics were off measure up for a carpet as that part of the insurance has been out. Drop off presents then a take away at dsis while we help do the veg then home for a relaxing bath and watch Christmas films

have a good day everyone

Timetoswitch · 24/12/2022 09:46

DH has gone to collect the turkey, I’m off to visit Ddad in his care home (first time in two weeks due to having Covid).

Just want to do a bit of cleaning today, we did the basic tidy and clean yesterday but want to do the bits that don’t often get done like mop the floor 😂 . And extend the dining room table so we all fit.

Then I think we are ready!

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 24/12/2022 11:57

By some miracle, I managed to get the very £££ Christmas shop into the fridge 😮. It was a lot of food! The turkey is in the old fridge in the garage though.

I woke up with the beginnings of a migraine this morning (after not sleeping much. Bloody insomnia) so I’ve not achieved anything much on my list today, pah. I need to nip to the shops for a few edibles still, but am basically done with that. Some last minute wrapping , cleaning kitchen and dining room, and then cooking: Yorkshire puddings, meringue, ice cream custard (ready to Chris tomorrow - DH has bought me an ice cream maker, squee!) , veg prep, fajitas for tonight.

Hope everyone enjoys Christmas Eve, my favourite day usually!

Wolfcub · 24/12/2022 15:12

Just bobbing in briefly to with all the frugaleers a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I'll be back to the thread in 2023 I hope when life is less bonkers. I hope you all have a peaceful day tomorrow.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/12/2022 15:50

I had to pop out to buy a special Christmas card which I forgot to buy. And managed to buy some food that was already out of date 😩 but I suspect it will still be fine to eat.

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 24/12/2022 16:22

*that should have said ‘churn tomorrow’ 😂

lovely to hear from you Wolf, will be great to see you again in the NY.

Merry Christmas everyone x

Unescorted · 24/12/2022 17:15

Hope you all have a stress-free evening and day tomorrow.

I retrieved dd ... 6 hours, followed by a last minute supermarket trip to pick up things for my DM and bro. They both have Covid so it has been a last minute change of plans here.

Eggs were hard to come by here too... I got the last 2doz yesterday after visiting 3 shops. I momentarily felt bad.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 24/12/2022 18:26

Have a very happy Christmas everyone 🎅🎁🤶🤗🎄🌲❤️

kessiebird · 24/12/2022 18:27

Merry Christmas everyone. What a good thread this is.

Hope that migraine clears up half and I hope everyone has a lovely, peaceful Christmas weekend. 🌟

LSD, lunch in the indoor market £10, £4 for extra bacon and veg at the market, dash to the coop for bread and soft drinks £11.

Watching The Polar Express with DD.

Unescorted · 24/12/2022 18:56

I forgot to say.. Gerty is warm again. £385.... Less than they quoted but still a chunk. Worth every penny.

Gensola · 24/12/2022 20:11

Merry Christmas all!
I am feeling so much better 24 hours into antibiotics. Still weak and exhausted but way less sick and no hallucinations 😂
I also get out of visiting MIL now which is the best Xmas present ever 😂😂 DH is going alone while I mooch about, total bliss.

needastrongoneagain · 24/12/2022 21:03

Evening.

Just sitting down with a mulled wine.

Lovely to hear from you wolf, do stay in touch if you can.

gen, pleased you are feeling a little better. You've had a rough ride recently. Every cloud though re MIL? 🤣

Hope the migraine eases half.

Lost the last few days posting in the madness of the week pre Christmas but what's not done, bought or wrapped ain't getting done now!

Enjoy it tomorrow, wonderful frugal friends in a lovely, friendly corner of MN. X

I’ve spent even more on that never ending shopping list, the fridge is heaving. But that’s it, I’m done.

Merry Christmas to all frugaleers!

See you all soon for a brand new money saving 2023 xxxxx

Timetoswitch · 24/12/2022 22:41

Well that’s such a shame gen, but you can’t be spreading illness around 😆 Maybe DH can come home sooner if you need looking after too 😁

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow. Love to those who may need it to make it thorough the day xx

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 25/12/2022 01:15

Well, my migraine cleared up but DD has broken out in chickenpox 😢

my jobs are done and I’m heading to bed, hoping Dc still have a good day tomorrow in spite of the pox (DS has had it but if DD is whiney he won’t cope well) 🤞🏻

merry Christmas all! X

ememem84 · 25/12/2022 06:23

Merry Christmas! We are done here. Trying to get the kids to bed soon!

it’s been a lovely day.

mil though has upset DH by announcing this morning that she had only bought pressies for the children.

it’s not an issue per se. But DH is a bit miffed that we’ve spent money coming here etc and spent money on her gifts and she gave him nothing. I’m not moaning about me not getting anything. That’s normal. Feel bad for DH.

Bil and sil hosted us today (they have a pool). So we’ve eaten and swim and drank and eaten some more. We don’t usually do pressies for them but this year did because they are hosting. Nothing fancy just gifts from home. But still. Nice to be able to do.
