My Lidl / Tesco shop for a week for six people was only 3.52 cheaper in Lidl

I know, I know I'm going to get how can six people live off this a week, that's not my point.

I did a online basket with Tesco then bought most of it in Lidl today. I'm quite surprised the difference is so low. A few things in Tesco are always out off stock online and there's no direct comparison for a few things.

However its 2.50 to get it delivered to my door from Tesco.

I'm seriously wondering why I shop at Lidl now except for top ups. Plus my cucumbers looked dodgy. Not sure they will last or if they just paler.

For £6 more delivered, it's not much saving for the hassle

£3.52 pw is £183.04 pa. Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves. It might be annoying, but it's true.

Lidl/ Aldi are no cheaper than the major supermarkets.

I don't think there's that much difference now between lidl/aldi and the main supermarkets, as long as you go unbranded and go for the offers. I have never found the fruit/veg/meat to stay fresh for long at aldi or lidl either. I shop at sainsburys and a lot of the mary Ann and JJames stuff is great and cheap. 2 x garlic baguettes for 64p, 5 x slices of thick ham (same % of actual meat as other brands) for under 70p, the wonky veg- blueberries £1.09, apples 99p, easy peelers 79p just for a few examples. The big packs of chicken are cheaper per kg as well so I buy those and freeze in portions.

It pays to shop around.

But if dint drive to the shop and bought it online I'd probably make up the small difference. I worked out that my car was 26p a mile around town.

I tested and found them to be within a few pence of each other for our usual shop. I suppose it depends on exactly what you buy, but they seem pretty comparable generally nowadays.

Try Iceland instead. Delivery is £3 or free if you spend over £40 (or possibly £30 - they were doing an offer).

Used to be huge savings but now I can easy do £65 in lidls where as a few years ago you'd be pushed to do a £45 shop

You can use Clubcard vouchers for a delivery pass.
we get staff discount so it's a given that Lidl is dearer but I do like their deli stuff.

I just shop at Waitrose now and use their money off discounts- just had £26 off an over £120 shop...I get a lot of their essentials range which are good quality as well

Tesco quality is better IMHO than Lidl/Aldi, worth a small amount more each week.

And how much is your time worth over the year. Assuming Tesco deliver it for you. Yea I know that's an extra cost but still that's a lot of hours per year.

A pp said £3.82 = £180 per year. That doesn't seem worth it to me.

How much does it cost you to get to lidl vs tesco delivery? In fuel/transport costs as well as time?

I can't get what I want in Aldi or Lidl and I don't have the time or energy to shop in multiple places. Also I use clubard vouchers like a second currency for days out, Eurotunnel crossings, dinner out etc

I never understood people saying Aldi/Lidl are sooooo much cheaper. I never found them hugely cheaper (maybe a fiver or so per shop) which to me isn’t worth it anyway as you just can’t get certain things in them like the shampoo I like, certain packet mixes and stuff so I end up going elsewhere for the extras anyway. It’s never felt worth it for me personally.

I find that I stray from my shopping list and buy more treats in Lidl and Aldi as I assume everything is cheaper. For that reason I stay with sainsburys and Tesco as I stick to the list and spend less

Yes the ilse of crap is good in Aldi. Not so much in Lidl.

With petrol versus home delivery its probably cheaper to get Tesco delivery overall. Depends which way I'm going. Nearest lidl is 4.4 miles round trip, so approx £1.14 in petrol. However if I'm going to the posher one in affluent Town its 20 miles round trip so £5.20 in petrol. With the price of fuel my £6.02 saving on home delivery is actually £4.88 at best, £0.94 at worst.

The best way to save is the buy more and decrease the trips in the car / delivery charges.

I though I was saving more like £10 a trip to Aldi. Clearly not. Will see if can get a decent amount off with the 10% off £250 voucher. But I think I might be visiting Lidl much less from now on in

M&S is actually good value. I spend the same a week.

I don't have a M&S near me but I'm thinking of doing a monthly shop with them / waitress to try a few bits out like beans / soup. I love their food. But the nearest food hall is a bit small. I might have a wonder over one day

Agree and also save a lot with club card discounts

I find Asda cheaper for what we buy and also their new rewards scheme is really good.

I did a direct compare between Morrisons (who I used to use for delivered shopping) and Aldi over 3 weeks’ big shops and found Aldi was 15-30% cheaper. A lot will depend on what you typically buy of course.
