Tayto that happened to me recently, I was quite scared as no signal and the weather randomly turned bad! Got there in the end though!!

need yeah it negates quite a chunk. We're hoping to negotiate the large unexpected bill to £500 but we'll see. Sometimes I think DH is too optimistic. The Christmas thread is fun isn't it!! Best to be prepared this year.

I've been feeling unwell today. So I'm going to have a bath and cosy up

Unescorted · 28/08/2022 19:55

born lovely to see you.

wolf I had to bring mine in - 2 loads dry, 1 half dry and other one going out again tomorrow.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/08/2022 20:00

Hey born nice to see you

wool is an ace insulation

ive read and forgotten sorry

flowerycurtain · 28/08/2022 21:05

@Wolfcub too late for these but my banking app allows me to pay in cheques via the app. I can also do it via the post office.

Us dinosaurs in the agricultural world still like a cheque much to my banks disgust!!

Alfiemoon1 · 28/08/2022 21:42

Finally made a decision and ordered a new sofa which we have been shopping for nearly TWO YEARS now 😭 so I’m very relieved but also slightly horrified at how much it has cost. It’s a corner sofa and we spent £1550 so not a huge amount compared to a lot of the current trendy ones (Loaf, Snug etc) but it feels like a massive amount of money. Kids will now have to be banned from sitting on it! (Not really but definitely no more eating snacks on it in front of the telly!)

flowerycurtain · 29/08/2022 06:34

Morning all.

What's everyone up to today? Dd wants a "girls day" which basically involves me standing outside Claire's and Smiggle for hours on end. Normally only to find if she chose 1 more item she'll get a bazillion more free!!

Taytocrisps · 29/08/2022 06:37

Morning everyone. Work today - Monday mornings roll around way too fast.

Oooh what did you get? It is a huge amount of money. But if you love it and you will use it….makes it worth it in my view.

we got ours from M&S earlier this year. Blue cordorouy. Corner one. Super comfy. The No food or drinks on the couch lasted about 2 weeks. 😂

I’m currently the only one up. Catface came up at 530 pawed at my head and demanded breakfast. So I ignored her for a bit then came downstairs. The cupboard under the stairs where we keep her food was open. Wondering if she tried to feed herself…….

sat here with a cup of tea. Laundry is on. Tempted to empty the dishwasher but it’s a noisy job and I actually don’t want to wake anyone up.

am going to attempt No egg pancakes though.

ememem84 · 29/08/2022 07:12

This is how close we are. She likes to be as close to me as she can be at all times.

Morning. NSD planned.

Lying in bed reading a book (birthday present). DH already gone to his allotment but has left a peppermint tea by my side. I've got rotten cramp so perfect excuse for a day doing little.

Expecting a visit from grown up DSC this afternoon, they are amazing company but not the most reliable 😂 I'm planning macaroni cheese and focaccia bread, so if they do rock up there's plenty food, if not it will do leftovers.

Back to work tomorrow after 19 days off😣 I'll not be this organised in a week's time after a couple of days in.

New sofa sounds amazing Stripey it will be well worth the money.

My DD likes days like that Flowery we spend most of our time queuing for the bungee trampoline which happens to be outside Claires.

Unescorted · 29/08/2022 07:24

We have been putting off getting new sofas. We have a really good furniture project near here so I am waiting to see if they get something in that will fit.

I am waiting to see if the wet washing that came in last night can go back outside today.

ememem84 · 29/08/2022 07:26

I need to start with the organising for mornings. The dc start school and preschool next week. So need to get lunchboxes next done. I’m going to start easy. Sandwiches/wraps bit of fruit veg sticks before I go full Instamum bento boxes for the kids. 😂

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 07:36

I got some reduced 'strewing' lamb so am making a slow cook curry, using my Wonderbag. These are great because you put your hot pan into it leave it for a few hours and it continues cooking using no fuel at all . Haybox method ..

I use it loads all winter.. Often If its a meat dish ill make it early and then quickly reheat the pan and bung it back in overnight .. Works a treat..

I also have one from Sew Fab ... Sew fab bag
They really work..

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/08/2022 07:36

Ah catface ❤️

we are off to a water park in Scarborough today to use the last of our COVID credits, will have to fill the car too,

We need all new sofas but starting decorating upstairs first and working down, so dc room first,
we moved in October and I have the savings

ThisisCollie2022 · 29/08/2022 07:40

Morning everyone!

Stripey I was exactly the same. We took about 2 years to choose too. However our new one arrived 2 weeks ago. No food or drink allowed on it! I love it. It's beautiful and so comfy. The old one hurt my back as it became slouchy!

Em how long have you had your cat? I think I might remember her or remember you getting her! She's so beautiful.

NSD here. We haven't made any plans for the day yet but cant go near the a30 which negates most of cornwall - its SO busy. The weather has turned very autumnal here. I smelt chimney smoke for the first time of the season last night.

I have an interview on Friday & I'm so excited. I really want the job. Its 20 hours a week which is perfect for me.

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 07:43

Im also roasting tomatoes for sauce as we have a bit of a glut and gardening..
We have a 2.5 hr Eco setting on our washing machine but I have never got my head around it.. it seems counter intuitive.. Also I am impatient!!
Got 3 loads of washing dried in the garden yesterday, 2 on 30min cycles and the other on 50 min . I wouldn't have had time to do 3 loads if id used the 'eco' settings

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 07:45

I remember Catface .... Sadly we are now catless as ours lovely one had diabetes and we had to eventually let him go ..

Timetoswitch · 29/08/2022 07:51

As it’s been so hot and clothes are still drying in a day, I’ve been using a lower spin rate on the washing machine, 800 instead of 1400. I’m hoping this uses less electricity! Will be back to the higher spin rate as it gets colder/takes longer to dry.

New sofa sounds great stripey

Have a lovely day everyone.

needastrongoneagain · 29/08/2022 07:53

Having spent ££££ recently furnishing the new extension (new 2/3 sofa, chair, coffee tables, bar stools, dining table and chairs), I feel the pain. That said, I have a wee smile on my face every time go in there (which is almost most of the time as we extended the kitchen area).

House jobs today, and cleaning out the car. Hospital later. Lidl for a medium shop.

Talking of Lidl, it seems their LidlPlus offer is changing, a free cleaning product when you spent £150 in a month, then 10% off a shop if you spend £250. This is from 1st September.

Sorry to hear about your cat laska, great tip re haybox method, I'm the same re washing, I want it out and on the line!!!!

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/08/2022 07:54

Ah sorry you lost your cats laksa

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 08:00

I should have said that was 3 years ago ! But yes I still miss him..
We wont be getting another for a while because we got the van and want to travel more . But I still try and make friends with every cat I see! And luckily next door's cat often pops around for a little snooze in our conservatory..

Gensola · 29/08/2022 08:01

I remember a poster on here - fluffycloudland i think who used to give great frugal laundry advice.

we plan to dry outside for as long as possible and avoid using tumble but I change the bed once a week and sometimes I have to use the tumble or the basket backs up with all the sheets in. I almost wonder if it would be cheaper to use the laundromat as they have a massive machine which could presumably fit more in?!

Meal plan for next few days until I go to NI:

sticky tofu with rice and XO sauce
broad bean and potato curry with spinach roti
saag aloo shepherd’s pie
chicken and courgette salad with green tahini dressing
DH will have to fend for himself while I’m away / eat out of the freezer.
I am trying to eat less meat to save money so digging out old plant based recipes with lots of lentils and pulses!

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 08:04

I really like the sound of Sag aloo Shepard's pie @Gensola
Can you post the recipe?

I remember Fluffycloudland !

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2022 08:08

Is it this recipe?, looks Le Yum! www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/saag_aloo_shepherds_pie_00935
