Get well soon Gen

Better day tomottow I hope Collie and great news about the tax rebate.

Frugal fail, long stressy day at work. In office tomorrow and needed to plan food. Too tired to cook / make sandwiches = Asda! They've opened a new fresh sushi counter after the old owners wound down, fatal! £23 for food tomorrow and two candles.

Never mind. NSD planned tomorrow

Timetoswitch · 14/09/2022 21:30

I hope your recovery goes well gen

marthasmum · 14/09/2022 22:22

gen hope you feel better soon, sounds like you are really organised with your finances
collie hope you feel brighter tomorrow
blobby i sympathise, I have varifocals and they’re similar cost. Frugal win today was k had an eye test and didn’t need new glasses. Also now technically type 2 diabetic so free eye test.
Frugal fail was that DD 18’s car needed servicing and MOT today. I had £600 (200 from DD) and was hoping it would be a bit less but it was £800!
I had to take the £200 out of money saved towards a holiday (£1000) which I’ve been guarding for a few months and is my only savings . So I decided to also use that pot to also pay off a credit card with £529 on it, which I’ve been paying off at £100 a month. That was painful to part with but I can now save the extra £100 back towards the holiday. Only debt now is £217 a month for car and new boiler loan which I’ll have for another 3 years or so.
well done if you read to the end 😂

Thanks guys 💖 I am home and recovering. I’m worried as the tip of my tongue is completely numb and has been since waking up from surgery. I expected the bad throat pain but this was not given as a risk before hand nor does it seem very common on Dr Google. It’s completely numb, can’t feel pressure or heat on it and I’m talking funny. Just panicking as a) it’s so uncomfortable and b) I can’t teach like this. 🙈

needastrongoneagain · 15/09/2022 05:55

Morning.

Gen. Glad you're home, and the operation seems to have gone well. Not so great re the tongue. Has it improved at all since you posted? I'd be perhaps contacting the hospital/doctor etc.

Collie great news re the work and tax rebate! Hope you're okay.

Martha, at least you have cleared the debt and can build the savings back up. Hopefully nothing else to contend with for the foreseeable.

weight yes, contact HMRC direct and they will split the code.

blobby, I hear you re adult children and eating. I'm desperately needing to go to Lidl, the fridge is empty, but I've not the time today. DS is off work this week and I can't believe how much he's eaten!

Lost a bit of track of small spends this week which isn't great but the bigger stuff has been.

£75 fuel.
£90 - meal out.

The meal out was for DS's birthday yesterday. We very rarely eat out, I think the last time was for my January birthday. We all felt we should (just me and the DC), but it felt odd without DH.

In better news, we 'only' used £106 worth of energy last month (£26 gas £80 electric), I've been submitted monthly readings. So that's another £100 credit stored up for the winter. We have a large house, but it's efficient.

No spends planned today, unless I do get to Lidl.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/09/2022 06:51

Rest up Gen and hope the numbness goes. Definitely mention it to your care team

big hug feeling tearful Is understandable

can you send ds to lidl need? Though mine would go off list & happy birthday ds, you all deserve a nice meal out

i think i would have cleared the cc too and put the payment back into savings now. Sorry the car was so much though

€20 today for scout camp and that’s it

needastrongoneagain · 15/09/2022 07:03

Not a chance I'd let him loose! DD perhaps, but no car!

Just ferreted about in the chest freezer and found a pack of bagels and some hot cross buns, they'll survive 😂

Gensola · 15/09/2022 07:23

need no it is still the same, if I knew it was normal and expected I wouldn’t be as bothered although it’s super uncomfortable but it is not normal as far as I can tell. It hasn’t improved or worsened at all since I came round from surgery. Will definitely be contacting the surgeon later today, I’ll be out of a job if they’ve caused nerve damage. 🙈😰

needastrongoneagain · 15/09/2022 07:41

Gen, totally hypocritical advice which I don't take on board in any way shape or form myself, but try, if you at all can, to not think worst case scenario. The practical steps you can take at present are to seek advice and rest. Until you have that advice, you can't doing anything more.

(I never ever take this advice myself, but please try to yourself x).

marthasmum · 15/09/2022 07:56

gen second the advice to speak to the care team. I’m no expert but could it be swelling rather than nerve damage? I’m sure the nurses on the thread might speculate better than me

morning all.

working from home today as need to pick dd up from pre school at 1145. seemed pointless in going in to the office for 930 to then leave at 11 to be back here. .. have been up since 6 though getting work done in the quiet - i doubt it will be quite as relaxing later on when i have both kids around.

nsd planned today. phew

LoveToWearADress · 17/09/2022 10:38

Hi all and thanks for the thread.

Good reminders to clear out the clothes cupboard and garage, I have a few things that could raise a few pennies, just need to get them photographed and online.

Where have people had the most success selling clothes and sports items?

Have also cleared out the 'spare' fridge and turned it off. Made sure all radiators in little used rooms are now off, and al thermostats are down. Time to invest in new hot water bottles. Fixed costs need to go down too: cutting out the gym membership, and my therapy.

Totally blown all budgets this weekend by booking hotel to go see my son.
