event catering today so busy busy, need bread milk and ice cream though

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2022 08:44

Has any one noticed the topic has changed names from credit crunch to cost of living?

Wolfcub · 21/08/2022 08:49

Yes I noticed that too Life. Understand why but would have assumed MN might have made some sort of announcement about it

minesalargered · 21/08/2022 08:54

I noticed too, it seems appropriate but don't remember any notifications re change. I imagine it'll be a busy place these next few months and beyond.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2022 09:13

It’s not that I’m bothered but was oo

yes sadly quite busy

CurlsandCurves · 21/08/2022 11:26

I guess’cre

CurlsandCurves · 21/08/2022 11:32

Oops fat fingers hit post!

what I was going to say is ‘credit crunch’ is a bit 2008 and the phrase cost of living better reflects current times.

My replacement Seasalt coat arrived. Still really roomy but I think the next size down again would be too small. So I’m keeping it. It’s going to be great for the wet weather. My old Trespass one is at least a decade old, the hood never stays up, the string running through the bottom has gone funny and yeah it’s basically had it.

Shopping list and meal planning today.

ememem84 · 21/08/2022 13:22

£2.10 bus to town to get car. Then £12 coffee shop. Had the dc with me. Flat white two juices two gingerbread men. Coconut slice.

put the wall stickers on ds’ wall. So he has a superhero bedroom now.

Wolfcub · 21/08/2022 15:52

Mmm coconut slice Em, yum

Made pickle with large courgette/marrow from neighbours. Picked tomatoes to make a sauce.

Frugal fail, bread went mouldy 🤦‍♀️ This is essentially because I bought bread for us them added sourdough for DD1 to the delivery order. DH ate the sourdough and the other stuff didn’t get eaten. So he drove to the shop - easy walking distance- to get bread because he wanted toast, 😡

I’ll catch up later, after I’ve skinned these tomatoes.

minesalargered · 21/08/2022 16:52

Bought compost but that's all. Repotted some plants and chopped down some overhanging branches from neighbours. Said overhanging branches full of sloe berries so all picked and I'll buy a cheap gin I think and make sloe gin for Christmas pressies (or to drink...😂).

I've been given masses of veg from Dsil's allotment, including a marrow which is approximately my size!!

Frantically Googling marrow recipes 😂

minesalargered · 21/08/2022 16:53

We are so lucky here as we back onto fields and all our gardens are huge with many established trees, but it means A LOT of work, more than we appreciated when we moved in truth. But lovely, too.

mustbefunny · 21/08/2022 17:29

Hi! I've been here many times over the years under different user names (le yum springs to mind as an alternative to naice ham as proof 😂)

As always, I'm feeling the end of holidays/start of autumn pinch - happens every year - and then stumbled across 'cost of living' - what's happened to good'ol credit crunch?!!!

Happierwithouthim · 21/08/2022 17:55

I think I'm winning at frugalling today - local international festival, we got Tesco meal deals Halo dd did get mini donuts twice I'm not a complete Scrooge Wink

Off to do my first grocery shop since 28th June Shock

School books bought for two this morn including copies €178.33, will get half from exh. I'd saved and this emptied the pot and still some uniforms to get so his half will cover the rest I'm estimating, I need to sit down and work out sinking funds only saying this since January Shock

Car was serviced this week & there was a repair job done at Easter. Camping next weekend, pitch paid for since June.

Wolfcub · 21/08/2022 18:09

Welcome back mustbe, us old timers will all be watching closely to try and work out who you are. I definitely should have responded with Le Yum to Em's coconut slice

Fell asleep reading my book this afternoon. Says a lot!

Nice way to spend a Sunday wolf

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2022 19:43

I still use le yum loads 😂

marthasmum · 21/08/2022 20:04

Meant to say good luck north! I hope you are ok.
all the gardening/ cooking sounds lovely. Went for a solo dog walk, paddled in the stream and treated myself to a coffee (NT cafe near us). Now got to write a reflective essay or two as I need to revalidate (requirement for nurses and midwives every 3 years to keep up to date, bit of a box ticking exercise ☹️). Going to treat myself to an episode of Bridgerton afterwards!
must I definitely relate to end of hols/ autumn pinch. Seems a very expensive time of year!

ememem84 · 21/08/2022 22:19

New game. GeoGuessr. Look it up on App Store. Slightly addictive.

essentially you’re plopped somewhere on google street view and have to guess where you are. Could be anywhere in the world.

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/08/2022 06:23

That’s an impressive amount to spend in Aldi happier
well done on resisting the choceur.

oo that sounds like a game you can lose a lot of time in

good luck north x you are well organized and fit from the gym so hope it goes well.

nsd planned today

mustbefunny · 22/08/2022 07:51

I'm not sure there's anything very memorable about me wolf apart from my inability to have money at the end of the month 😂

We're now officially into our overdraft 😭. I get paid next week and should be getting a days overtime so that will hopefully mean we can start September at zero rather than dipping into next month already.

I've got Tesco shopping booked for tomorrow which I could mostly cover with club card vouchers if necessary (although I was saving these for Christmas) and an already paid for veg box on Wednesday.

September will be better!

CurlsandCurves · 22/08/2022 07:57

Oooh those choc covered Oreo’s are just amazing aren’t they? But v expensive so off my shopping list for a bit.

Pay day is still over a week away for me. It’s a long old month! But I’ve had extra shifts so I’ll appreciate it when it finally lands in my bank account.

Food shop then work today, new week here we come…
