Gah. We have already gone over half the budget I set for this month when new month only started on 20th! Mainly because we had to renew car insurance and buy 2 x new car seats for DC2.

going to try to offset it a little by trying to sell his old car seat and base but not expecting to get much for it

i do write down everything we spend but it just seems to go. Wasn’t helped by fact we had to go to a party we could not miss sat night. 2 rounds of drinks (just 2 drinks for each of us) was over £25 then we stupidly decided to go for a curry we didn’t even need or enjoy (there had been food at the party) so that with taxi home meant night out over £100.

just trying to save for the works which need to be done to our house as they are likely to be horrendous but feel like not getting anywhere fast!

tonight us home made butternut risotto from stores. We are not out again this month (well, I’m out for work next week but that’s paid for by them and if I don’t drink I can drive home) so should be able to cut down costs a bit but we are also hosting 2 bbqs this month(!)

just feels like it’s always something each and every month and that savings needle is static

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2022 17:00

You and your giant balloons em. 😂

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2022 17:01

70p soo far as lovely friend wouldn’t let me pay for anything £1.99 water

it’s awful when unexpected things come up in the month.

LuxembourglivinginDenmark · 28/07/2022 17:06

Nsd 😀
Have made the meal plan for next week and grocery shopping tomorrow

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 28/07/2022 17:14

Bought 2 of these from Amazon Warehouse for my Dds for Christmas

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09GV8N99M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They were £28 last year , l bought one for my step neice for Christmas so l knew they were excellent value already . I bought them from Amazon Warehouse for 16 , so l am really pleased with them, The packaging was a little bit battered but the actual inside of it was perfect .

I think it has gone up to 17 now on there but well worth it
Also bought www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09QKS2GG9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
for my Mum it's a coverless duvet , it's going to help me so much when l change the bed , no more duvet covers you just put the lot in the washer !
Spend £33 on a great neices birthday present as well
Em Happy birthday to your Dd Smile

Welcome luxemburg, the budget seems reasonable to me, and the fact you've planned this far a very good sign. Meal planning too makes such a difference,

The always does seem to be something doesn't there grace? It's frustrating.

Yesterday spends
Ordered some meds for the dog - not sure of cost but also ordered a prescription too for him, to get them online cheaper.
£10 on a new top on Facebook from Hush,
£73 on two bags of dog food, that'll last a good two months for two dogs and is really good quality.
£30 buying some data for DH to use the iPad, as the hospital Wi-Fi doesn't work.
£2.95 - TGTG bag from Greggs. Amazing value with young adults in the house. The Greggs ones are always good.
£60 Lidl.

Phew - but literally got minimal spends this weekend, I just had a spare couple of hours to do these things yesterday.

We had veggie chilli and wraps last night and I'll meal plan later.

marthasmum · 29/07/2022 21:35

Welcome luxembourg I was just thinking today how I’d like to go to the cinema. Mine are older though so happy to take themselves now!
Good frugal day today, DP got an unexpected pay rise of about £100 a month and mine will hopefully go up a pay increment (lucky I know) in aug, by about £50. The two together will hopefully pay for the fuel rise!
I’ve a weekend off today with nothing planned which is a nice change of pace, the last few have been busy.
happy birthday em-’s DD
My DD is working lots of shifts in a restaurant - she used to be a pot washer but has been promoted to kitchen staff. She doesn’t like it though as the boss is shouty ☹️ and she is not very assertive. She is back to college in a month or so so I’m trying to encourage her to keep going. Hopefully she’ll give me money towards her car which needs a service and MOT 😳

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 29/07/2022 22:03

That cake looks great em and happy birthday to your dd!

Welcome lux!

Had a nsd yesterday, spent the day sorting out mine and the girls rooms. Lots of rubbish and stuff to Carboot!

This evening has been spendy. I've been booking train fares for some days out. We are going to Kew Gardens (only £1 entry if you claim universal credit), a day at the natural history and science museum, and a London sightseeing day. I've booked specific trains so much cheaper and we are all very excited about our 3 big days out! I've also booked a table at Artbox cafe when we are in town for Pride, which is dds favourite place ever, im also excited as its currently hello kitty themed. The deposit will come off the bill so won't feel so painful on the day 🤣

Oh and I also booked groupon tickets for the upside down house, we haven't visited yet but looks fun!

We are eating from the cupboards to try and save on food shopping. I bought some top ups today (salad, bread etc) £10.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 29/07/2022 22:07

We havent watched minions yet, dds were asking to see it. I havent heard much about it good or bad. Except the news stories about big groups of teenagers going in causing mayhem! I'm trying to steer them towards Thor, because even if it's rubbish... its Chris Hemsworth 🤣

Alfiemoon1 · 29/07/2022 22:53

welcome lux
my ds watched minions he enjoyed it but is 17
the cake is great em hope dd had a good birthday

ememem84 · 30/07/2022 07:53

Just checking in, haven't caught up with the thread yet. Spent. Fortune on holiday. News on gas and electric prices increasing again is getting into seriously scary territory now

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 30/07/2022 08:39

Welcome back Wolf , yes it's getting scary the the cost of everything 😱. I think some of us are going to have to decide whether we can afford to go on holiday or pay the bills tbh 😱
I think home sharing for holidays may be the way to go for the braver amongst us 🤗
Hope you had a great time on your holiday though lovely 🤗
Enjoy the riding Em🏇🐎🐴
Nocuts great planning ahead 👏👏👏🤗
Martha great news about your DH pay and yours it will really help towards the fuel increase.
Have my nephew and his boyfriend coming to visit this afternoon. I hope it's good weather because l want us to sit outside and have tea and cakes 🤗
NSD planned today 🤞
Have a lovely day everyone 😊

Alfiemoon1 · 30/07/2022 09:15

Morning all. Bit miffed this morning at waking up at 6.30 on my day off and not being able to get back to sleep and that it was forecast to be nice all weekend and has now changed to rain
welcome back wolf hope you had a lovely holiday
yes the predicted raise in energy costs is worrying we pay £270 will bulb and used £170 last month we did put the hot tub on during the heat wave so are in credit and hopefully will keep building credit to cover the winter and price increase in October need to get dc on board at saving electricity as they are forever leaving lights on dd sits in her room during the day with her curtains closed and light on ds goes out and leaves his computer on pfft

enjoying having a coffee in peace as everyone is still in bed need to wake ds up soon as he’s in work at 11. We are going out for tea as it was dh birthday a few days ago but will go to the pub ds works at which is very reasonable and he gets staff discount

have a great day everyone

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/07/2022 09:22

I would totally do a house swap with some of the longer term frugaleers.
welcome back wolf. did you have a good holiday though?
The cost of living is scary.

not much planned this weekend, pootling about, dd hair cut, next week uniform and shoe shopping, ikea trip

northender · 30/07/2022 10:41

Thanks for all the lovely messages, the support is really appreciated. The op has been brought forward a few days & surgeon said the cyst is like a 26-28 week pregnancy, so no wonder I'm tired & uncomfortable!!
It will mean 2-3 months minimum off work so I'm hoping once I'm starting to feel better I will be able to do lots of sewing. I'm currently trying to get the one for ds finished. Won't share a pic of it until he's got it.
Em cake looks great
Welcome to new frugal peeps joining.
Can't believe we were in a heatwave 10 days ago & yet here it has pretty much rained every day since.
Have done gym class this morning, going to try out our first zero waste shop now (hope it is okay price wise, love the idea of it), then I think I'll be working on ds' quilt for the rest of the day as he is out all day.
Trying to do some batch cooking over the next couple of weeks in prep for when I won't be cooking for a while.

Gensola · 30/07/2022 11:00

North sending lots of love and good wishes for your surgery and the all clear 💐 I’ll be having surgery around the same time also for a lump that could be cancer, but in my throat so DM me if you want a sick leave buddy!
Spending a lot of money atm in the run up to the wedding, also trying to catch up with friends who we haven’t seen in ages due to pandemic. Once I have the op I will be out of action 2-3 weeks so hopefully Sept will be a frugal month!
