curls - a washing kit for the car? A few bits to take to Canada?

north - fingers crossed for the surgery. Fill your recovery time with regular post and crafting!

Good haul MrsEvans,

I'm totally with you on the sleep Half, I'm a walking zombie at the minute, not sure how I'm even managing.

martha with two at home in their early 20's, we are getting though an inordinate about of food. Feel your pain!

My few bits cost £11.50 yesterday, and I only got exactly what I went in for. Asda 'Gold Blend' coffee surprisingly okay and same price as Lidl.

Made a huge roast Mediterranean vegetable and chickpea stew last night, with lots of jerk seasoning, harissa and fresh coriande, with mixed grains as a side. Enough for lunches today, together with the Too Good to Go stuff.

So, hoping for a NSD.

Have a great day all.

CurlsandCurves · 26/07/2022 09:04

@northender good luck with the surgery, hope it goes well and you have a swift and relaxing recovery x

@HalfWomanHalfChocolate I’ve never suffered myself but insomnia must be awful. Especially when you’ve a busy day to get through.

Will do the car care kit I think. @ememem84 I can’t contribute to insurance as it’s a company van so all expenses are covered.
Also a guide book for Toronto and like I said some currency. He says not but I still say he’s going to need a bag or rucksack for days out over there and the one he’s got is all ripped and not very big.

Got to do a bit of shopping for my parents today as mums got covid. She’s fine, just tired. Dads still negative so far.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 26/07/2022 09:35

Just catching up on all the posts

Hope everyone ok and surgery goes well North

some of you may remember a while back I was saying about rejoining the gym...well we went for it so not very frugal but absolutely the right decision, so good for all the DC. Older ones are old enough to go the gym on their own aswell if they want. Needless to say we've spent the last few days there!

Off on holiday next week house-sitting and visiting family so no accomodation costs but we are providing our own food and will cook for them some nights. Think we've got 2 meals out planned aswell. But it's a holiday so always spend more. Have booked some good activities too a mix of paid for and free activities.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/07/2022 17:37

Ah pleased the gym worked out

a castle cake eh! You know the rule - pictures

Timetoswitch · 26/07/2022 18:35

Sorry to hear you have been having a tough time north, we’re here whenever you need us Flowers

Going to be a busy and spendy week.

We had to complete a budget planner this week, we really need to work where the “spare” money goes, as it is certainly not left in our bank accounts Blush

CurlsandCurves · 26/07/2022 20:06

@Decafflatteplease totally get the gym decision. Ds2 has a membership which I did umm and ahh about but he uses so much. It’s going to really keep him occupied over the summer as him and his mates all go together, or they can swim or get a discount on booking a football pitch. He’s gone at least 3 times a week since he joined a few months ago.

Good luck with the cake @ememem84 and yes, we need pics!

@Timetoswitch I could do with doing the budget planner myself. Little spends here and there are getting the better of me.

Heads up: have you guys seen the news that Amazon are putting their Prime price up on 15th Sept? Martin Lewis suggests if you pay monthly and can afford it, get a year at the old price while you still can. If like me you pay annually, cancel it and start again before 15th September to lock in a year at the old price.

Mine is up in October so might think ahead and get what I need then cancel for a bit.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/07/2022 20:32

Oo I didn’t see the cancel and rebut. I will do that

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/07/2022 20:33

Ah mine renews this week so that’s good

ememem84 · 26/07/2022 21:32

Of course there will be pics. I knows the rules. Mention a cat = pics.
make a cake = pics.

this is what I’m aiming for.

I hope its OK to join you all. I really need to make this summer a low spend one and could do with the moral support!!

That castle cake looks awesome, when my eldest was around 3 i attempted one... didn't look that good! I saw a hack about wrapping toilet roll middles in fondant for the turrets it was a bit of a disaster! Thankfully no photographic evidence that I know of 🤣

Had a spendy day, had to pay dd2 swimming fees for next term (£63), bought a shower storage thing from amazon as I'm sick of the bottles around the bath, we needed to restock the toiletries and I bought some hair dye!

However saved some birthday money I was going to spend, i cut my own hair following a YouTube tutorial. It previously touched my bum and hadn't been cut since 2019 😱 now its just below boob length and layered, feels much thicker and healthier! I wish I had done it sooner!! Then dd2 begged me to do hers, I just trimmed the length, it's one thing messing about with mine and potentially buggering it up but would feel guilty if I did it to hers!!

ememem84 · 27/07/2022 06:45

Morning.

if anyone wants a good listen I’m currently listening to “gangster” podcast. The second season is about Curtis Warren who was arrested and tried here a few years ago. Interesting as I didn’t know anything about him. Other than he is a bit of a wrongun.

Morning.

Welcome, nocuts. Lovely to have you join us. I'm sure the thread can help with making the summer less expensive.

Cake looks fabulous, well done em.

Good news re the gym, if it gets used regularly, it's money well spent, and healthy.

I've got a busy day today, so going to crack on shortly but hopefully a LSD.

I filled the car yesterday which was the best part of £75. Doesn't feel like fuel is getting cheaper to me!

Have a good day all!

If anyone hasn't used Gousto before, I think they've an offer where the first box is totally free. There's a couple of threads on it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/07/2022 07:24

Welcome nocuts

those turrets scream upside down ice cream come to me. I think that’s doable em

in the office today first time for a few weeks. Still not 100% and didn’t bring lunch or breakfast. Also a few errands to run

Gensola · 27/07/2022 11:28

welcome nocuts I think I recognise you from another thread 😊
we got a covid bonus from work - small but welcome!
visiting MIL today - taking her for lunch at a garden centre.

Timetoswitch · 27/07/2022 18:33

If anyone’s pay falls under local government, the pay offer has been published. Let’s see what the unions say!

ememem84 · 27/07/2022 21:39

This is the cake so far.

Can I join in please?
I'm living in Denmark with my dh and our 2 dds. Dd1 is 8 years old and starting 2nd grade next week. Dd2 is almost 6 year old and starting school next week.
We need to be better with saving and spending less money, especially because we wish to renovate our home next year hopefully.
We have a joint income of 4500 £ after tax (45000 kr.)
Outgoings covering budget account is 2700 £
Then we have 1800 £ left for food diverse petrol and saving. We aim to spend 500 £ on food. 500 £ on diverse. 400 £ on petrol. And 400 £ then goes to saving.
Does that sound reasonable?

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2022 08:51

Sounds reasonable but not sure of prices in Denmark

bloody trains

LuxembourglivinginDenmark · 28/07/2022 10:45

lifelongfrugaleer some products are more expensive and others cheaper so overall I think it works out the same. Our petrol is currently 1.17 £ per litre.
We dont use gas though so that's a relieve. We have district heating instead which is only about 60 £ per month.

ememem84 · 28/07/2022 12:57

New friend for the afternoon. Not sure how I’m going to fit her in the car
