urgh rubbish night and we are “only” amber

ah please you had a good day mines. Of course missing dh and haveing a cry is understandable

ordered some food £70 fml. Stuff we have run out of bloody food prices

Wolfcub · 19/07/2022 06:31

Dog walked. Washing on. Bins out. Already sweating and I haven't even put my laptop on my knees yet, it was hideously hot yesterday and doesn't seem to cool itself + metal case

Need to try and get a gp appointment this week if I can, my pain is doing a number on me

I also can't wait for a double/range oven Life. Although why I need one for just two of us is anyones guess.

Wolfcub · 19/07/2022 06:32

Well done to your DD Mines

BigSkies2022 · 19/07/2022 08:47

Well done to graduating DD, Mines. Will she be moving home/starting work elsewhere - what next?

The night was not too bad, but the house hasn't really cooled down and so the second day of excessive temperatures is going to be worse than the first. Could just run a cool bath and keep dunking myself in it?

DH took Ddog to the park for a poo and a play. DH now gone off to work in charcoal grey linen trousers (with a belt and proper shoes they look very smart - get another pair for future heatwaves, methinks), and Ddog is flopped out on the floor. I've tidied up, done the dog food order, taken various things out of the freezer, done a couple of Prolific studies (which will cover prescription charges this month) and am contemplating doing a bit of exercise in the sitting room before it gets too hot.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/07/2022 10:05

So dd what’s your plan today?
teen dd - shit all 😂

CurlsandCurves · 19/07/2022 12:42

Horrible night. I had a shower and went to bed still wet which was great as the water evaporation cooled me down. Then had another one at 4am when it was just stifling.

This afternoon I have concocted a cunning plan. I’ve booked myself in to the cinema to watch Elvis in air conditioned bliss!

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/07/2022 12:50

That’s a plan so cunning you can stick a tail on it
and elvis is a great film

gracedentssketty · 19/07/2022 13:35

We started doing presents for only kids a couple years ago. Mother in law still expects presents though even though we’ve said don’t buy us any. But she does buy for the kids (mainly charity shop) sooooo

i disgraced myself last Christmas (well I said something she didn’t like so apparently I am satans child) and I get sick of going to hers for it so now that we are in our new house I’ve insisted we are having it here by ourselves with our DC. Her cooking is terrible so will be glad that we can do our own. Won’t bother with horrid dry turkey - will do a nice chicken, a ham and maybe duck (or a confit duck shepherds pie we make). DH is amazing cook and I will do a snowflake cake and sticky gingerbread. Can’t wait!

DH and I have also stopped buying each other presents - we get each other something “from the DC” - just no point as nothing either of us ever wants - would rather spend it on a nice meal out of the house

still got to buy for my parents and FIL/step MIL, 2 x niece, 1 x nephew and of course the DC (plus the nursery girls) so Christmas is never cheap. But I am planning to buy more from the charity shop for the DC this year as they don’t really “need” stuff

new budget starts tomorrow THANK GOD as we have gone hugely over this month due to paying balance for one holiday, booking another, new carpet and too much food shopping! Going to really reign it in this month - freezer inventory will be done today and a meal plan off there

sorry just realised that was a long post

Decafflatteplease · 19/07/2022 15:34

Thanks for all the replies re Christmas, will chat with DH. Don't feel we can really say let's just buy for the kids as we have 4 times as many DC as others so its a bit unfair to say we will just buy for children as that would help us but not everyone else. Maybe we just need to lower our budget.

In other news NSD today and yesterday because it's too hot to go out to spend money

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/07/2022 15:47

What about a £ per family present then? You buy something in one for everyone?

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 19/07/2022 16:13

It's much hotter today here 🙄
I came home and got in the bath washed my hair and have left it wet on my head .
Have hung wet clothes up in the house to try to cool it down 🤣
DH is grizzling ' I don't like the smell & it lowers the tone' FGS it's clean wet material, it does not smell of anything except a flowery bouquet from the fabric conditioner . Also who does he think we are ? Margo and Jerry 😂😂😂 I am more irritable today l admit it but is it any wonder. He also dared to say he was going to cut the lawns at 1pm , needless to say he hasn't 🤣🤣🤣
What is wrong with these men 🙄
Anyway have had a good old moan to you all sorry 😊
NSD at least for me so that is one thing , hope everyone is ok 😊

Wolfcub · 19/07/2022 18:27

£9.40 prescription, £5 lottery ticket (yes I know i'll never win but it's been shit at work and I need some hope for an hour or two)

I hve actually bought a couple of Christmas presents this month. The Christmas bargain thread has a lot to answer for

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/07/2022 18:31

Someone has to
win

CurlsandCurves · 19/07/2022 18:36

Elvis was amazing. Just amazing.

My parents are back from their holiday. Dad sent me some money for covering his job while they were away. Too much. Way too much for what I’ve done and I told him so but he insisted I deserved it and he could afford it. Feeling v emotional bless him.

ememem84 · 19/07/2022 20:33

£51 hair cut. Yikes

booked colour and cut in for December. Before we go away.

OP posts:
Unescorted · 19/07/2022 21:29

What is all this Christmas talk? Are you wanting to make me nostalgic for the traditional Christmas smells of melting roads, out of control fires, rain that evaporates before hitting the ground and next door's dessicated mown dog shit.

Wolf hope you are ok.

Em how is your DS. has he cooled down and rehydrated?

We went with frozen hot water bottles last night. Highly recommended. Tomorrow is going to be 18deg C cooler. If it isn't I am squatting in Sainsbury's.

Wolfcub · 20/07/2022 06:46

Dog walked. Bed stripped and remade, just about to hang sheets out on the line and log onto work.

It was a very hot sticky night here it's just starting to cool now

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/07/2022 06:52

You paint a lovely mental picture there unescorted.

hideous wasn’t it wolf. Feel quite sleep deprived

minesalargered · 20/07/2022 07:33

unescorted🤣.

Up early here too. Usually go for a run but didn't fancy it so did some surveys instead.

Sticky nights sleep but feels a bit fresher now.

Elvis is really good isn't it curls. Lovely gesture from your Dad.

Moan away MrsEvans!

Sounds tricky grace re the MIL.

Skies, DD is going to do her Masters and then onto a PHD. She's moving home and commuting to university, it's about 20 miles away. Cheaper way of doing it as most of the government funding for Masters goes on the cost of the course.

Quiet day yesterday, spending was parking and £50 for the cost of MOT for DH's car. Necessary and slightly overdue.

Today, I may get to Lidl, I really need to, we've plenty in the cupboards but no sandwich/fresh stuff. Gousto leftovers for lunch for all 3 of us there was so much.

BigSkies2022 · 20/07/2022 09:55

Hurrah, mentalist heat has gone and I can put on some proper clothes and leave the house today. Only for unexciting errands and food shopping, but still. Rain forecast for this evening, but it will have to be a serious downpour to help the garden. DS stayed the night in Brighton, bless him. Oh, to be young, surrounded by a nice group of mates, and have enough cash for a bit of fun!

DH took Ddog to the park this morning, and Ddog's calmer behaviour was noted by the regulars there (no joining in on the humping). The testosterone inhibiting implant has definitely helped. So we will likely proceed to surgery at some point this year. Also get a rabies shot, so we are France-ready. DH informs me that a gite in the Dordogne this autumn is not looking likely. C'est la vie.

minesalargered · 20/07/2022 18:28

Good news re the dog skies.

Spending today was a very rushed dash round Lidl, £70 total, including wine and cleaning products. I forgot some things, and will have to go back! Or potentially use Ocado, where I have cancelled my delivery pass but have a couple of weeks on it. If you shop smart and know what it sells, it can be decent value for certain specific items. I'd have to buy a few cupboard items to get near to £40, but might take a punt certain items increasing in price in the near future and buy those.

So much cooler!

Used loose change for parking.

Knackered, long day at work.

Wolfcub · 20/07/2022 18:53

£65 Sainsburys. This is why I don't go to supermarkets. And I still haven't got the lamb I need as they didn't have any. Did include a voucher for a gift and a pair of shorts but nothing else of consequence
