We don’t have one yet. But I’m going to sort it out soon. We have wills.

dparents have said they’ll do one when they need it. Ffs.

Agree re lpa and already have a plan to sort this with parents after it was such a nightmare with dgm

Decafflatteplease · 09/07/2022 09:42

Ah there's the difference @minesalargered our house is almost 200 years old so draughty etc, we had extra loft insulation a few years ago which made a big difference and have recently had a baby window replaced but some of our windows are stained glass so it's tricky.

Debating getting a door curtain to go over the front door but don't know if we would save more than it costs.

Also debating a heated throw when I'm "WFH" not literally WFH as I'm a full time carer but alot of my time is WFH doing admin so I get chilly sat around.

Anyway.....

Spendy weekend here we need to go food shopping I've been trying to shop at Lidl on the weekend but time is tight this weekend so may have to do it all on ocado. DH out tonight at a friend's party so budgeting around £30-50 for that. He rarely goes out though so it's fine.

2 loads of washing on the line already 😁

Alfiemoon1 · 09/07/2022 09:51

Morning all
hope the scan goes well Em
looks like it’s going to be a dry day which is good as we are at an outdoor concert tonight need to pay our contribution to the buffet about £4 x 4 get a bottle of wine and box of beer to take ds won’t eat much of the food so will buy him a burger or hot dog there

we don’t have wills yet something we need to look into and do but we do have lpa for dm

BigSkies2022 · 09/07/2022 10:35

DH and I have sorted wills, life insurance written into trust, pensions with nominated death beneficiaries, and our solicitor and executors know all about this and where the paperwork is. I go through financial assets/admin regularly and make sure DH knows about it all. He is less organised with me...

We don't have LPAs, but I have tried to put one in place for my parents. It's been a nightmare with the Office of the Public Administrator - it's been sitting with them for over a year. Apparently the wording is 'ambiguous' and so it has been moved to their legal section to resolve. I've written twice to enquire and the answer is the same each time: it's with the legal section because of a possible ambiguity of direction, and there is no timescale for resolving this. That was their exact wording no timescale. I"m not sure how a public sector organisation can just announce no timescale on their work, but there you go.

Fortunately, my parents are going to be moving close to us, and it will be much easier to help them.

BigSkies2022 · 09/07/2022 10:40

Spending wise: having done my calculations for this month, paid off my Paypal balance, and stashed savings, I have decided the time has come to splurge on some new socks and underwear! Have spent a grand total of £70, spread over three Paypal instalments. Paypal Pay in 3 may be the best or worst thing that I have ever come across. It does make the difference to funding stuff I do need as opposed to just want (underwear, skincare) in an affordable way, so on balance I like it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/07/2022 10:46

Don’t worry em imo kids playing is not an annoying sound. If your neighbours complain they are knobs

we have wills, guardians for the dc, life insurance sorted.

i need to get Sunday lunch for pil today, debating bake or buy. It’s a bit hot to bake so won’t maximise oven

Wolfcub · 09/07/2022 13:00

I am afraid that right now I am that knob Life. Neighbours dc are just screaming and squawking in the garden non stop, there is no quiet or normal level noise play it's just loud noise making for the sake of it. It's too hot to close the windows and I'm trying to concentrate which is impossible. #grumpy Wolf

@ememem84 joining this thread - and just saying hey as I’m in guernsey!

currently flat on back in bed with covid so mumsnetting rather than enjoying this glorious day

gracedentssketty · 09/07/2022 14:15

Wishing for payday this month to try to draw a line under spending as it has been ridiculous.

We’ve had non-usual spending such as over £200 on waste charges to get rid of asbestos, a new carpet for the kids playroom plus a membership DH wanted to keep up because it’s difficult to get back in, but that he is just not using. Plus hardware/concrete for his putting a new gate up.

we need lots of works done to our house and have some cash for it but need more so I am constantly trying to keep an eye on spending/budgets but DH is not such an active participant!!!

Hoping next month (new budget from 20th) will be better - we have car insurance to renew but shouldn’t be any other large purchases

honestly just cannot believe the cost of food at the minute - it’s the largest part of our budget and an area where we really need to cut down

i guess at least given I have covid, we won’t be going out!

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/07/2022 14:31

No no @Wolfcub there is a difference between kids playing and screaming and making noise for the sake of it. I hate that too

Just come back from a party with dd. At pub with soft play. DH dropped us off. The party mum said there was a tab behind the bar for those not driving. Nice shandy for me!

now settled in the garden with wine and soda. DH has fired up the bbq for chicken prawn mango stir fry noodles. Yum.

En route back from Devon now. Had a fabulous but very spendy week. Caught up with lots of friends & family & did lots of touristy stuff too. When home will need to decide how to account for all the expense in our budget. Not sure our holidays pot can take it all as we still have a couple of breaks later in the year, will need to juggle.
Hope tests are ok Em. Am waiting for an urgent (within 2 weeks) gynae appt but have been waiting almost 4 weeks now. Had one booked next week but cancelled as surgeon has covid.

Decafflatteplease · 09/07/2022 19:12

em your evening sounds blissful!

Spendy day today £80 on physio for me but worth every penny and then £50 in Asda (didn't fancy driving to Lidl post physio) didn't even get much for £50. Just some beer for DH, stuff for a quick tea tonight and some school lunchbox stuff. Also £90 on ocado coming tomorrow. We definitely save money at Lidl but it's the whole time Vs money thing.

Beautiful evening here. I'm planning sitting in the greenhouse (with baby monitor obvs!) With a decaff tea 😉, chocolate and my book. Rock and roll Saturday night clearly 🤣

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 09/07/2022 20:03

Evening everyone Smile
Spent £15 on a giant pump of Flexitol on offer at Amazon atm
It has a 20% off voucher and if you combine it with a subscribe and save then a pump will cost £15.09 instead of £18.99 , it is amazing stuff for hard skin on feet elbows and knees Smile
Also 6.99 for 2 exfoiliating body brushes to use on arms and legs for Dd1 27 who is ever so slightly on the Autism spectrum, she hasn't been diagnosed but even she suspects she is , anyway they are apparently very comforting and calming when used for dry body brushing and thought I would give it a try for her Smile
Em good luck with the tests lovely Flowers
Decaff enjoy Smile
North glad you had a smashing time hope you hear soon re your Gynae appt Flowers
Welcome Grace Smile
Bless you Wolf Flowers
Well done Bigskies Smile
Saw the ladies tennis & am so looking forward to the Mens final tomorrow Smile
Hope everyone is ok and enjoying this glorious weather Smile

Fearofawelshplanet · 09/07/2022 20:25

Mis in section due to job interview next week, lots of nsd's and was very disciplined in b&m's - 1 bottle of ketchup and out💪i usually mindlessly buy tat. But last month I was out of money with 2 week left. So nope! I am leaving food shopping until Tuesday. Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather.!

Fearofawelshplanet · 09/07/2022 20:26

MIA - missing in action🙄that should say ...

Timetoswitch · 09/07/2022 21:54

Been missing here too, previous week had been busy with lots of activities for the DC. This week, both the DC were ill on different days so we had a quiet week with only one DC well enough to go to one of their activities. So we had a break too!

Been a bit spendy, £150 yesterday on two deposits for DD to go to 2x camps and on summer childcare. But I’m excited for her to go to camp after her school residential was cancelled during lockdown 🙂

ememem84 · 09/07/2022 22:06

Not looking forward to the scan as apparently it’s an internal one. I’m also not able to eat for 5 hours before. Must also have a full bladder. I specifically chose a first morning appointment so I can just not eat breakfast and then just get it over with. but needs must.

indoors now. Dinner was yum. Wine is gone. Kids in bed. Cat face is pouncing something on the lawn. She will come in and up to bed with me soon.

@Decafflatteplease thata the reason I want a greenhouse. So I can sit in it. DH thinks that’s a silly reason (a much better one is we don’t have space!) but Grandad had one and had a comfy chair in his. Just for sitting and reading and listening to radio 4. Heavenly.
