anyone up for a no spend January?

just the normal utilities, food shopping and transport costs

then put the purse/wallet away and don't spend till February

a good way to rebalance the balance after xmas

Hello my lovelies! Hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

Low Spend Day here. £2.20 on the carpark at the beach - where we went for a walk along the Sw coast path as the waves were too scary to walk along the actual beach. But it was divine being out and about, force fed fresh air and then home to a roast dinner.

This week looks like
Monday: Low Spend Day - milk and bread
Tuesday: Free Spend Day (going into town to spend Waterstones vouchers and my Boots points!)
Wednesday: Low Spend Day - drink while DS is at clubs in the City Centre
Thursday: NSD
Friday: NSD

Our electricity usage has shot up in £ and P and I’m wondering if the cost has increased (we’re unfortunately on a Standard Tariff) and so my goal this week is to keep electricity costs down to £1.50 per day!

Yesterday we spent over £3 Shock

chimichangaz · 09/01/2022 21:17

Update from me - ordered the rug gripper from Amazon but it's using the credit from the returned items. Also found out I won £30 on the lottery last night! I have a weekly lucky dip standing order. Think I've won about £60 and a few lucky dips over the last year.

ancientgran · 10/01/2022 11:14

Got through the sort on prolific so started the study, takes a week but will be worth about £15 so that can go to sorting out my hair. Hoping for a NSD but need to go to the pharmacy in local supermarket to pick up my prescription items so I might succumb.

MakeUsACuppa · 10/01/2022 11:41

So far so good, I have only spent money on food and petrol this year 😇

I am going to try and do the whole of the month without frivolous spending, I do have a hair appointment at the end of the month and a birthday present to buy.

I am logging all my spending, so far not much to log and it's giving me accountability. It's made me realise I did not need that extra coat, cushions, boots and top! they can wait until February Grin

Woodlandarchitect · 10/01/2022 11:45

Just did the weekly shop online at Sainsbury’s £50! Another budget week as our usual budget is about £75ish

Oooh congrats on the £30 lotto win! Smile

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 11:45

Yesterday was a nsd for me, I took my lunch to work and fell asleep as soon as I got in Grin

gracedentsleftbumcheek · 10/01/2022 11:47

We are going to be over our “revised budget” but under our “normal” budget as car was just serviced and needs 4 new tyres, brakes etc done and the service itself - well over £1000! Ouch!!

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 11:47

I need to return some jeans to Dorothy Perkins but don’t think I have the delivery bag. Do you think I can post back in any old postage bag as long as I have the QR code for the post office?
That will be a £17 refund.

ancientgran · 10/01/2022 15:26

Well going for my free prescription ended up costing me nearly £20. I bought the bacon I forgot to get last week, some nice crusty rolls for lunch and a birthday present for February, I could have left that but I saw just the thing so it seemed foolish to leave it. Spent one of my vouchers from a cashback site so I don't feel too bad about it.

ancientgran · 10/01/2022 15:28

@TabithaTittlemouse

I'm pretty sure I've done that and it was OK. Do you have any paperwork to put in the parcel to make sure they identify it correctly?
TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 15:42

@ancientgran I don’t but I emailed them and they said any old sealed bag would do and the post office scan the QR code. I’m rubbish with technology so this sounds space age Grin

You’ve just reminded me that I need to order my repeat prescription too!

BigSkies22 · 10/01/2022 16:33

@ancientgran - bacon, bread rolls and birthday present sound like essential spends to me.

£16.66 in Sainsbury's on preferred brand of bagels, Skippy peanut butter, teabags (forgot in Aldi) and some missing ingredients for a chilli con carne for dinner tonight. Going to try it with minced pork rather than beef as we're trying to stop buying red meat. £4.80 on coffee and Marmite toast from a cafe this morning - doing my stint in a charity shop, fortifying myself for all the lifting and sorting for donations.

Quite pleased with how things are going, but we're not even halfway through and I feel the urge to spend on something for the house building!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/01/2022 16:36

NSD yesterday and today. Its easy not to spend when you're holed up with a nasty bout of covid! Luckily we have plenty of food and toiletries in the house.

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 16:37

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers ohno! I hope you feel better soon.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 10/01/2022 16:39

Thank you. The headache and body aches are my worst symptoms at the moment so I'm not doing too badly.

HoulYourWhist · 10/01/2022 16:48

Messed up my timings for a free coffee from Caffè Nero, so spent money on fast food instead after my physiotherapy appointment. Peeved off with myself! However, kind of offset this frivolous spending by topping up my phone via airtime rewards so that saved £10. I'm telling myself at being annoyed at spending money on fast food is progress!

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers get well soon Flowers

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 18:07

Another nsd.

I did the food shop which came in at £77 but that’s essential!

So total non essentials remains £28.

chimichangaz · 10/01/2022 18:43

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers hope you feel better soon Thanks

NSD here, been wfh all day and busy busy with work. Felt rubbish earlier on, upset tummy but better now. Going to have an early night I think.

My tv unit is listed on eBay but I'm going to put on FB marketplace to see if I can shift it quicker.

Something I will be spending on is my Next sale items - just need to decide what I'm keeping and I'll log the spend (non essential though so that's a bummer!)

ivykaty44 · 10/01/2022 18:49

ive had another spend day....

baby present for newborn! £12 for bag, card & clothing set

£6.20 coffee
£20 wool
£12 presents

£6.10 today a Starbucks with dd, so a spending day

makes a total of

£44.60 this January - so far

10 days in, 21 days to go

OP posts:
TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 19:01

@ivykaty44 but newborns are so lovely Grin

I can’t wait until payday. Although I’ve not spent like I usually do I think being paid earlier in December makes January a struggle anyway.

ivykaty44 · 10/01/2022 19:03

on the good side

I have been offered 3 jobs to do end of jan and feb, so ill have some extra cash coming in from those - which will be nice

OP posts:
chimichangaz · 10/01/2022 19:04

We're just about a third of the way there!! Hang on in there.....

ivykaty44 · 10/01/2022 19:06

TabithaTittlemouse

I know, I'm expecting my first gdc any day, so a few more spends...

but having been careful, I have more money left to last me till the end of the month

OP posts:
TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 19:22

@ivykaty44 my dgc is 9 months old, it’s the best feeling. Congratulations on the jobs!

CheeseMaiden · 10/01/2022 19:33

Happy Monday everyone 😁
I’m on my 3rd no spend day, will have to pay £3.50 tomorrow for a new nursery book for DD but that’s it.
Did a meal plan for the week based on food we already have so don’t need to do a food shop this week!
Also started making soda bread instead of buying bread from the fancy cafe down the road- saves us ££ as we have loads of flour and is easy to do with a toddler on the loose!
