anyone up for a no spend January?

just the normal utilities, food shopping and transport costs

then put the purse/wallet away and don't spend till February

a good way to rebalance the balance after xmas

I do no spend February has January is a busy month for birthdays 🎉 so no chance of not spending.

Fuuuuuckit · 24/12/2021 21:25

I'm in.

DS has started an apprenticeship so tax credits, Child allowance and CMS have dropped, energy bill is doubling and I've spent more than I've saved up for on Xmas.

Need a proper shake-up of my finances. Thanks for starting the thread OP.

Madaboutmango5678 · 24/12/2021 21:31

Yes please I was just looking for inspiration and ideas for this and thinking of how over packed the cupboards/chest freezer/fridge have got again.

Thanks for starting the thread Xmas Grin

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 24/12/2021 21:32

I'm trying a no spend year so yes, I'm up for starting with a no spend January.

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 21:57

Great idea to use up freezer food, shopping list for supermarket to reduce impulse purchasing.

I have a lot of food for xmas and will be eating this until the first week in January, many repeat dinners but we won't go hungry

I use my bike a fair bit as its quicker than the car and easier than trying to park, saves a fair bit on fuel

I could do with this!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/12/2021 22:05

I'm up for it. I have no money and when I get my bonus in January I'm putting it into my house fund. Got married in September and need to pay the credit card off from that as well. Keep getting emails about the sales as well.

earsup · 24/12/2021 22:06

Oh...sales could be tempting tho.....!! but will really try for this one.

Helpstopthepain · 24/12/2021 22:10

Me please!

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 22:19

just remember, Sales is all the stock that no one wanted

I’m going to try and use up all the food I’ve brought that won’t be eaten, and try to rebalance by buying a veg box, use the refill shop etc.

foxywheaton75 · 24/12/2021 22:40

Yes please I'm in.

WreathSupreme · 24/12/2021 22:42

I’d like to give this a go

Opal8 · 24/12/2021 22:44

I'm in!

Doublechins · 24/12/2021 22:45

I'm in. Ive way overspent for Xmas and really need to try and be better with my money.

littleHen84 · 25/12/2021 07:03

I am in def over spent this year!

solania · 25/12/2021 07:05

I’m in, though will have to spend on a couple of birthdays. Apart from that, though, I’m definitely in!

Fritilleries · 25/12/2021 07:06

Ooooh. Like it. I'm in.

GoodnightGrandma · 25/12/2021 07:07

Me too.
I get a Tesco delivery, so no impulse purchases for me.
There’s nothing I need, I don’t think, so I’m in.

ivykaty44 · 25/12/2021 12:57

I’m going to eat up the ham, lamb and chicken with jacket potato, mash and have sweet potato and celeriac to use up!
Hopefully will last me will 4 January

Then a decent two week meal plan, find two weeks better as can use up things purchased in week one that I only use half. Then freeze half each night for next two weeks.

January is a long month

unluckyinlife · 25/12/2021 14:02

I'm definitely in. I have 2 birthdays to shop for but aside from that will not be spending

ThankGoodnessForTea · 26/12/2021 17:10

I'll join! I've avoided the sales so far and hoe to continue as I don't need anything!

My guilts are eating out and going to Costa! Need to stop!

AlexCabot · 26/12/2021 20:45

I'm in! I have a couple of January birthdays to buy for and my wellies have split (any recommendations for cheap but durable ones would be gratefully received!) but apart from that, just the basics.

Chest freezer is pretty full so food spend should be minimal.
I'm aiming for a no spend year but don't want to put too much pressure on myself so I'm going to take each month at a time.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/12/2021 20:47

Four early/mid February birthdays in our immediate family 🙄 no spend late Feb here.

ivykaty44 · 26/12/2021 20:49

For birthdays try not to get cards in supermarkets, they are expensive compared to the places in town centres where you can get a decent card for under a £1.00. It’s worth stocking up for the first 6 months of the year. Get a roll of unisex birthday wrap

If you can get some birthday presents in boots chemist sale and get points
