Back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks annual leave gggrr really don’t like my job at the best of times but for what it is the hours are good and have been working from home apart from when I was training. They are piloting a new system which I did my training 2 months ago in the office then went back to the old system working from home. First day back tomorrow and I am in the office on the new system which I have completely forgotten asked who else was covering it with me as when I trained there was 3 of us and apparently it’s just me but I will have support whatever that means lol
Spends today £20 in the shop getting packed lunch stuff and snacks for ds who will be home alone and despite getting a merit in gcse catering seems incapable of making himself a meal at home. Half of which he has already eaten lol cat food as ordered from Amazon yesterday for delivery today but it’s now coming tomorrow

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/08/2021 21:46

Spent about 15£ today at a stables fundraiser

Happierwithouthim · 16/08/2021 00:54

€108.31 Aldi maybe €40 of this was dc spends on stuff for their rooms & toys and rest was picnic ingredients, snacks & about 3 easy dinners for while we're away & a bottle of vino & a couple of mixed cocktail cans for me. Also a lovely oil based cleansing balm with double sided micro fibre cloth & aloe Vera body lotion for my sunburn. I feel more settled down that's done.

I bought the spotlight sonic toothbrush last week while it was offer, my teeth feel so clean & are keeping white following one use of their strips.

I'm taking this holiday to start taking better care of myself. Cleansing & moisturising every day instead of swishing off Superdrug hot cloth cleanser with my hands. Also using foot softening lotion on my heels. And have waxing & nails booked for Sat eve when I get back.

@ememem84

happier that looks supér Le yum! Fish and chips with a side of pasta? (Sorry if it’s not pasta. Can’t quite tell from picture)
The pasta is dd's & to the right is ds's chicken goujons on chips. No matter where we go they order this. Ds left his ice cream after him said it tasted like it was from a block €5 down the drain.

Must remember tooth fairy later

ememem84 · 16/08/2021 02:44

happier 😂 I’m with them on that. Goujons for the win! One of my faves.

I was out a while back and had essentially goijons with “red pasta” (chicken schnitzel with tomato pasta). It was delicious and v grown up. But it was the closest thing to a Goujon I could find. Because sometimes goujons.

I’m up with dd. DH has been up for the last hour with her. But he’s going in telling her to go back to sleep then leaving immediately. So she’s not settling.

I’m sat outside her door (huge improvement from the other week) just waiting for her to drop off.

Apparently DH is now an insomniac. Because of dd. Hmm

Happierwithouthim · 16/08/2021 03:38

Oh man em how frustrating for you!
I'd to set an alarm to be tooth fairy Grin

My bestie would order goujons out too, it's more the pasta that annoys me. It's literally pasta with tomato slow roasted sauce & cheese.

ememem84 · 16/08/2021 07:07

I ended up sleeping outside dds room. Just woken up to her coughing herself sick. So happy Monday.

HumbugWhale · 16/08/2021 07:08

I always have to set an alarm for the tooth fairy!

Hope you got some sleep Em.

Had better get on with Monday...

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/08/2021 07:40

I need to pack to go away today. I’m no where near as organised as usual

Hope it’s just phlegm sick em.
Have a good holiday happier

Usually I'd be up before her but I couldn't guarantee that on holidays! Usually she leaves €2 but I'd €4.40 in coins or €10 note so I ended up leaving €10. She's thrilled this morning
CamdenLurker · 16/08/2021 12:03

Hey guys!

Busy weekend but can't really pinpoint what we did, nsd yesterday 💪🏻, that doesn't happen as often as it should at all.

Jacket potatoes for dinner tonight (cheap!!!)

I've been watching some YouTube instant pot recipe vids and am going to give a chicken jambalaya a go tomorrow, not sure if I've got all the ingredients so I might have to improvise. Anyone else use one? Would love some dinner time inspo Smile

Have a great Monday everyone!

Happierwithouthim · 16/08/2021 12:15

I didn't gel with mine Camden but mostly I'm cooking for one. Wolf has one.

I'm browsing recipe books in house swap house and taking pics!

I've only used it for rice, a gammon joint and a quick spaghetti Bolognese so far, it was a bit of an impulse buy on Prime Day, so now I have to be seen to be using it Grin
Happierwithouthim · 16/08/2021 12:40

I actually sold mine & bought an air fryer however used that three times and prefer my much more expensive actifry so think I'll sell that one and save for another actifry when this one gives up the ghost

ememem84 · 16/08/2021 13:13

dh did the prime day impluse instant pot buy too.

we use it loads though. soups are good. and he does this thai chicken recipe which does a whole chicken in coconut milk and red thai paste in about 30 minutes. also throw in a tin of potatoes and its yum!

i'v never made rice with it though. i dont get on with it. probably because i dont know how it works, and haven't got he instructions or time to fiddle about with it.

i much prefer the slow cooker.

he's also done ribs, stews, spag bols, curries, other yum things. if you have a pinterest you'll find loads of recipes.

Wolfcub · 16/08/2021 15:26

Instant pot mainly I use it for:

Rice
Mash potato
Gammon
Stews
Curries
Chilli
Poaching chicken breasts

Mostly it's a winter tool in this house. I need to get back into using it but that goes hand on hand with my statement the other day about needing to get off my arse and start cooking

€19.99 on mindme subscription to see if I can secure local childcare for dc for one hour 4 days per week, advertised for someone to come into the house but had little interest

grannycake · 16/08/2021 17:46

Long term lurker. To answer the instant pot queries I use it for curries, risotto and other rice dishes, pasta sauces, mashed root veggies, meat loaf and I also make green yogurt every week. In the winter steamed puddings are good and it makes excellent baked cheesecake

I find the following blogs really good:

My heart Beets. Especially the butter chicken
Feisty Tapas - especially the Nasi Goreng
Amy and Jackie - lots of well tested stuff on there
Every nook and cranny - really easy to follow

Sorry am on phone and can't link

Never thought to do risotto! Will give it a try. Just discovered baked risotto. That’s a game changer.

£35 labels for kitchen jars.
£41 more kitchen jars.

This is what happens when I have literally nothing to do all afternoon at work (and am wfh today so couldn’t get my “office” boring stuff done - printing filing etc).

Made Korean chicken salads for lunches tomorrow.

Packed up my snacks too - chopped apple with blueberries, a peanut bar and a small dried fruit box.

CamdenLurker · 16/08/2021 19:39

Em - these are the exact reasons I haven't got to grips with the instant pot, the instructions are quite basic and I don't want to poison anyone Confused although it does double up As a slow cooker which I haven't used yet but intend to at some point.
*
Wolf* - I saw someone make mash in a few minutes and I was impressed, they also made a cake which was interesting, I was hoping to use it in the winter too, I've looked up recipes on YouTube but they mostly seem to be American and I can't get to grips with the measurements and some of the ingredients.

Grannycake - thanks for coming out of lurkerdom to reply to my post, I'll look up those guys you mention, I've looked for a decent instant pot cookbook but all reviews seem to be quite poor, or they are largely aimed at the US market.
