Unescorted · 13/08/2021 22:56

I hate being pressurised into buying things. Tayto that is a good conversation to have.

Wolf but he is such a cutie 😍 so worth it...

It has been another difficult day. My sketchbook is looking less of a mess.

2 of the dcs got up at 5.45 today. Cbeebies is on. They were so tired last night I thought we might manage a bit of a sleep in. Sad

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2021 07:03

Going to be an expensive day as taking dd to the outdoor shop. Off down whitby way to find a tea shop in the woods so ££ on chipper tea.

ememem84 · 14/08/2021 09:31

Catching up.

£43 yesterday nails.

Also had a physio appointment for my thumb. Need to sort out my insurance claim.

Today because I’m feeling like shite still have cancelled riding.

We’re going to clean up the front garden and then I need to do a food shop.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 14/08/2021 11:25

Yesterday I was going to buy a big £5 chicken but decided not to as I don't need to get any more food until the middle of next month so waste of money.
Also ran out of shampoo and didn't buy any more, I did 6 months no shampoo before just washing my hair very well in plain shower water twice a week. It made no difference to the colour of texture of my hair and it still smelt clean.
So nil spend this week.
I WILL get that debt paid off in a year.

ememem84 · 14/08/2021 14:49

6m?! Wowzers. I can go a week between washes but that’s my limit before I start getting weirded out by it. I’ve wanted to push it to see how long I can go though.

Spends £60 coop on weekly food shop
£48 Iceland on tonic water diet cokes and cherry cokes (24 cans of each for just over £10 each) and the rest ice lollies. So so many ice lollies.

DH is attacking a tree out front today.

Mrsmadevans · 14/08/2021 17:33

Hope you feel better today Em , l find Iceland very good prices. I need to go in there more.
Diamond l couldn't do that my hair would stink, perhaps it is our different kind of hair texture or ages, or water whether hard or soft. Very interesting ! Smile
Humbug that is savage Flowers
Unescorted glad you are getting on with your sketching/painting , it must be so relaxing for you Smile
Have a lovely time Life Smile
Have been to see to MumBobs, went straight to Cwmbran, petrol £62,
127.9 a Litre , cheapest in Cwmbran Sains for many miles and you get the Nectar points ! 137.9 where l live ShockHmm
Popped into Primark bought some pretty fluffy towels £24 , Dd1 complained ours were hard after so many washes and she was right l am ashamed to say Grin

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 14/08/2021 18:28

Didn't have any more money for food this week so couldnt buy rice - I have plenty of cooked food in the freezer but no rice, pasta or anything to go with it. I tried savoury porridge instead as I have tons of that, it was a bit gruel like but it was passable and better than nothing.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2021 19:00

£17 cafe, £85 horse stuff

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2021 19:12

She do you have plain flour and salt? Add water and dry fry for flat breads if you need a carb

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2021 19:14

I do chapattis 250g flour,150 g water mix, leave for 15 mins then knead lightly. Makes 4 flat breads

Luckily it's only for another day - I can shop again on monday - I am on a self inflicted extreme frugal routine so I can pay off all my debt in one year. I'll definitely try that. I didn't know you could make flatbread with just those ingredients. Thanks Smile

ememem84 · 15/08/2021 06:51

Up twice with dd last night and she settled herself in about 5 mins. It’s getting better…!!!!

However her last wake up was at 5. So I’ve been up since then. By myself. It’s nice. Currently sat outside on my egg chair with a cup of tea Nutella toast and a blanket. Watching all the little birds tease catface. She’s on the chair here with me. Desperate to get them. She’s making that chirrup noise.

diamond have you thought about buying tinned potatoes? They wierd me out but are tasty and ace to keep in the cupboard.

Also I freeze leftover rice. I’m sure there was an episode of eat well for less where they made stir fry ( it’s always stir fry…) and suggested the family (or maybe it was students) cook a whole bag of rice and freeze it in portions.

Today should hopefully be nsd. Taking the kids to adventure park after breakfast will take drinks and snacks. Then gone for lunch naps etc.

Sesame honey soy chicken for dinner with rice and stir fry veggies. Bought the kids practice chopsticks so they’re eager to try them!

I’m a pro re chopsticks. 😀

Wolfcub · 15/08/2021 07:37

Urgh I am absolutely full of cold and my back and hip have both gone. Gah

Ds is home today will pick him up about 5 so I need to do the last bits of cleaning and tidying in his room and make his bed. The bed Is not quite dry yet but the rest of the day with the window open should sort it

Good idea re flatbreads Life. Dumplings or a suet pastry top is another good one if you generally have suet in the cupboard. Needs nothing else but flour and water

I need to start cooking properly again. I'd just got my mojo back when the pup arrived and cooking with a puppy who is a) glued to you b) over interested in what's on your work surfaces is a bit of a challenge

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/08/2021 07:40

Yip I do them every Saturday to go with our curry. Thanks the Spicery for the recipe

She fair enough you are doing great at being frugal. I need to get back to making do rather than poping to the shop.

Fund day at the stables so couple of £ on raffle prizes. Will run up some scones in a mo

northender · 15/08/2021 12:14

wolf and life I've not been as good lately at frugal eating, so need to get back on it too. Also need to get more organised for when I start FT at the start of September. Dh doesn't really do fish so I need some single portion meals in the freezer for when we have fish and just generally keep the freezer stocked with curry, bolognese etc.
We have been fairly lax with spending recently so it definitely needs more work.

ememem84 · 15/08/2021 12:46

£14 at adventure park. I forgot socks for dd (you need them for the indoors soft play) and I also forgot you couldn’t eat or drink home brought food in the indoors section. So bought coffees and snacks. The kids had their snack boxes as their lunch when we ventured outside.

We saw two goats “playing”. Shock

And also saw one of ds’ pre school friends so are going to look at getting together with with them to go bowling.

Now home. Dd had her first cut knee and a plaster. So she’s upset but exhausted. So she’s gone for a nap. I’m on bed. And DH and ds are watching frozen. For the fifteenth time this week.

MeadowHay · 15/08/2021 16:20

£108 in Asda, had nowhere near a full trolley this time either. Did spend a fair bit on formula though to get some in ready for the bairn. Bought Cow and Gate again and seems the tubs of powdered have gone up in price about 70p since we were using them in 2018/19. Why is everything so much more expensive these days?! Although frugally bought DD a few pairs of shoes in the sale, £3 sandals, £4 shoes and £5 trainers. Sweet.

I second tin potatoes, I actually don't mind them at all though. So cheap and quick. Also they work fine to top things like gardeners pie or make patatas bravas or whatever. I have Jack Monroe's Tim Can Cook recipe book and there's quite a few easy recipes in there based on tinned taties.

ememem84 · 15/08/2021 17:01

Re potatoes on a tin. They are great. But I just get freaked out opening a tin and seeing potatoes. Which I know is strange because obviously that’s what’s in the tin…

See also whole chicken in a can.

Happierwithouthim · 15/08/2021 17:40

Frugal breakfast was my homemade brown bread with poached eggs.
Frugal snacks with my cousin & her fiancé were cans of minerals that I bought in a slab & a traybake that dd bought last night.

Dinner out le yum Smile
