Two lidls near me are on that list, When I asked about them they said they weren't part of the trial!.

curls What timeframe did the bank give you?.

Justanothermile · 10/08/2018 09:00

Hello curls.

mammy, I'm thinking these things take some time to plan and sort. Hope you're coping and the DC are not feeling it too much.

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 09:08

Great news unescorted what a relief!

QuiteCleanBanditlovesdresses · 10/08/2018 09:14

That is a fantastic initiative by Lidl .
I thought it was a trial in various stores .
I hope they roll it out further.
Im getting all excited by the prospect of "winter food"
Mmm dahl ,casseroles never stew 😉 loooong sloow cooking.
I agree its cheaper in winter as we seem to be constantly buying salady stuff .
Luckily wonky cucumbers (no plastic) are 20p in our greengrocer plus I chuck in lots of raw courgette and tomato both home grown and buy heads of lettuce 40p.
Home baking is another area in which Im not bad Grin and Aldi flour/sugar is really cheap.

I have to be dragged away from posh bakeries muttering "£3.50 !!" For a piece of cake "
Ive cracked out my Aeropress again.
Lovely and no big pot going to waste.
Coffee is a big expense, does anyone know of a bulk buy good supplier ?
Off to Ikea -pray for me !

WreckTangled · 10/08/2018 09:15

No Lidl near us is going it.

Unescorted that's brilliant news

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/08/2018 09:24

Quite Have you tried aldi or lidl coffee? I use whole beans and grind them in a burr grinder from krups using nectar points.

Sometimes Costco do two huge bags of Lavazza red beans quite cheaply if your a member of Costco.

SnugglySnerd · 10/08/2018 09:29

Sorry Unescorted I missed your news. Just read back. That must be a relief.

QuiteCleanBanditlovesdresses · 10/08/2018 09:29

I tried Aldi and it was vile Fluffy
Will give Lidl a go.
Good coffee is my only vice these days .
Fancied bulk buying from a good supplier but there doesnt seem to be any advantage in doing that .

littleHen84 · 10/08/2018 09:34

Have been lurking but not posted been super unfrugal as having renovations done to the house Confusedso lots of outgoings flying out, have also renewed passports and applied for a first passport for minihen,i have helpfully sent his passport to the wrong office thoughAngryhas anyone else done that? I have called them to advise bloomin heck

Justanothermile · 10/08/2018 09:36

Menu plan for the forthcoming days

  • chickpea, tomato and spinach curry.
  • roast chicken.
  • tagine (veg and lamb)
  • veggie and three bean chilli.
  • pasta and roast veg
  • veggie lasagna
  • tomato dhal
  • sausage, egg, tomato.
  • some form of soup.

I've bought a ham joint for sandwiches for DH and DS (he's got some summer work in the unit next door to us)

I've got the shop to about £140. That's a 'from scratch' and back from holiday kind of shop. Four adults and all meals. Would be cheaper if there was no meat.

I've started making my own hummus, that's super easy and cheap and far less plastic wastage overall.

CurlsandCurves · 10/08/2018 09:37

Fluffy they didn’t give me a time frame. The guy I spoke to said that looking at the info I provided it shouldn’t be a problem. There might be a bit of a delay with the interest rate rise last week, presumably they’d have to revise all their mortgage products.

CurlsandCurves · 10/08/2018 09:39

Ooh, jam what’s your hummous recipe? Always on the hunt for a good one.

QuiteCleanBanditlovesdresses · 10/08/2018 09:45

I make my own hummus JAM
I roll the chickpeas in a damp tea towel to remove the skins first .

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/08/2018 09:46

Quite

I've had the same thought. Sometimes pact coffee do a bag for £1 trials but it's not something to rely on.

Dhs company pays a fortune for coffee beans and machine hire.

QuiteCleanBanditlovesdresses · 10/08/2018 09:54

Yeah Ive looked around a bit but it generally comes in the same or dearer Hmm

I have a feeling that the price will go up even if we get a Brexit deal, cos you know thats a good excuseHmm so keen to stock up .

ScandiLady · 10/08/2018 09:57

Great newsunescorted
Nsd today. Sent dh off to built a new dresser at my grandmother.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 10/08/2018 10:05

Good news Unescorted.
We are going back home today so need to pack and hurry the DCs along.

BreatheSlower · 10/08/2018 10:12

Fluffy that's brilliant about the tilde rice being £1. I didn't know that. I usually get a 5kg wholegrain bag for £15 instead of buying 1kg for £5. What size bag are you getting for £1?

I'm waiting for the post coming with bits to glue onto my new instrument, and drinking lots of water, like a very well behaved fish.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/08/2018 10:23

It's 1kg of long grain white. I use 100g per person but we have big meals and no desserts with dh having diabetes & me having a milk allergy.

Waitrose have emailed, only one pack of mince available and its short dated so that's free & the other one cant be supplied.

northender · 10/08/2018 10:26

Hola from Spain! I did write a long post while on the ferry but then lost it & gave up! Holiday is going well & managing to keep spends down. This is a beautiful part of Spain (Cantabria) and hardly any other Brits here so we are having to learn Spanish quickly. If it was just DH & I we would explore much more, but with 2 teens who don't want to, it's easier just to stay close to base. Beach, pool, food & then evenings full of cards, Yahtzee & other random games isn't a problem, good family time.
Haven't read back fully but welcome back jam, glad you're okay.

BreatheSlower · 10/08/2018 10:27

Ah, that's different then. I get my rice from the asian supermarket at the top of the road, and sometimes from deals in Tesco. I do 100g too.

My building bits have arrived now.

SnugglySnerd · 10/08/2018 10:31

I have officially had enough today. Dcs are being awful. As soon as I do some with one of them the others start trying to get my attention by crying, climbing, bad behaviour etc. DD1 gave me a book to read. Ds snatched it and hit me with it. It's been like this all morning apart from when we went out to buy milk. Aaaaggghhhh!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 10/08/2018 10:39

Sorry you're having a hard time SnugglyFlowers

mammynowanauntyIRL · 10/08/2018 11:18

jam dc are blissfully unaware of the situation so far Hmm

BreatheSlower · 10/08/2018 11:31

That sounds hard Snuggly. Take care there.
