Thanks for new thread Cag. Fell off the last one as feeling ill so slept a lot. Curled up on sofa with tea just now.
Good news on your parents house Sunny. It will be good for DS to have grandparents near as well as better for them.
I'm envious of the sunshine Need, hasn't stopped raining here ....feels like years. All the blackberries (and the fields) are sodden.
Enjoy the spar Wreck
I am naturally frugal and it has certainly helped now I am spending so much on the house. Absolutely no frittering.
Well, next week will be spend your as taking DGD to York for 5 days. Wall to wall museums.

mammymammyIRL · 10/08/2017 08:46

Thank goodness for ynab my scheduled billing of car tax reminded me today is last day to pay tax on au pairs car Smile

Did you download updated app laska? I'm all confused with it, think I'll wait & do budgeting at my pc.

Cagliostro · 10/08/2017 09:28

Morning all! Things a bit up in the air here as it seems FIL may have had a heart attack Shock not entirely sure yet, he's ok and conscious (managed phonecall from hospital) so need to see what doctors say. He had a major one about 16 years ago and they had said the stent should last 10-15 years. So they are thinking it's that. He is being his usual stubborn/chin up type self and saying don't visit (he's several hours away) but DH is understandably not convinced!

Thanks for the new thread Cag
need and love work life balance is a really tricky issue and I'm not sure there's ever a perfect solution but you just have to go with whatever is the best for you.
wreck enjoy your spa day
laska good luck with the budgeting
Sunny hope your parents get the house.
Em well done for holding out in laundry wars!

I've had 2 very busy days at work and now have got an equally busy day "off" trying to get everything done ahead of going to France at the weekend.
Frugal win last night, ds had eaten at cricket, dd is at my mum's so dh & I were tempted by takeaway but held out & I had roasted veg with various oddments left in the fridge, dh made some pizza using aldi focaccia rolls from the freezer as base.

SnugglySnerd · 10/08/2017 09:39

Thanks for the new thread, Cag. The title worked, we have sun today!
Hope you FIL is ok.

I'm on it this morning. Have already changed all the kids' beds and got the bedding washed and on the line. Have also dusted everywhere except bedrooms too untidy to dust and vacuumed downstairs. Also chopped onion and cooked potatoes ready to make frittata for tea.

Going to get out for a picnic and ice cream today as I think the rain is back tomorrow.

How was your night, Christmas? I was thinking about you. Sleep deprivation is just awful.

CremeEggThief · 10/08/2017 10:50

Thanks Cag. I hope your FIL will be ok. Thinking of you all. X

How's DGS copper?

Laska5772 · 10/08/2017 14:04

mammy Im still using the old ynab4.. You can still get a copy if you have ever had it and have your old access code .. The great thing is you only pay once! i couldnt see any reason to upgrade to the newer version as its really just a spread sheet.

Cag i hope your FIL is ok..

£95.78 in Sainsburys and £5.50 in local goat dairy farm on milk some goats milk fudge (for Dh.. seemed like a suitable random gift to buy him ..) and some of their Kefir to try as Im not sure if mine is fermenting ok.. their's is very strong! I think i like mine better! .

Quite like this 'fermented foods' thing... Am going to try making sauerkraut later!

Oh, I am 'working at home' this arvo Grin

SunnyLikeThursday · 10/08/2017 15:18

Sorry to hear you're under the weather Copper. I hope that gets better soon for you.

Our weather has improved, thank goodness, and it is no longer November outside.

I was virtuous last night and moved some savings from 0.4% account to a 1.1% account. It's much easier now we don't need to fill in the gross interest form.

WreckTangled · 10/08/2017 16:34

Cag hope fil is ok.

Had a lovely day £13 on extras (water, wine and had steak).

This was my dessert today. Lovely lunch. Outside on the terrace at a new favourite. Had saffron rissotto, then chicken with pea purée and asparagus the. Bakewell tart and clotted cream icecream. And because today we hit the 33 week point and it's sunny and it's battle of flowers day here I also had a glass of bubbly. £81 for dh and I for lunch. Three courses each for £25, a glass of bubbly, two glasses of wine and a pot of earl grey.

cag I hope fil is ok xxx

Home now and have done a fair bit of washing up and put a load of laundry on not dhs now watching dexter. Probably won't need dinner....

northender · 10/08/2017 17:19

Snuggly that sounds like a really productive morning.
Cag hope your fil is okay, it's hard to know what to do when you live far away.
need yes indeed, utter madness. I'm trying to be super organised.....we'll see!!
We're going to set off for Devon on Saturday morning at 5ish to try to avoid the worst of the traffic. We will have breakfast at the super naice Gloucester services which is a once a year holiday treat and then carry on. We get the sunday evening overnight ferry which the dc, despite their age are ridiculously excited about! Can't wait to sit on the beach & chill.
No spends today but took delivery of a new body board for the holiday. I won't get much use out of it as I really struggle to catch a wave, meanwhile ds makes it look so easy!

Cagliostro · 10/08/2017 17:48

Thanks all they have said they do think it was a heart attack and they are replacing the stent on Monday.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 10/08/2017 17:49

Oh cag I'm pleased they're replacing it. I do wonder why they hadn't done it sooner if it was obviously past it. I suppose fil probably wouldn't think to ask though!

Cagliostro · 10/08/2017 18:04

I have no idea TBH! He's been absolutely fine so it was totally out of the blue. I don't know much about the previous attack as it was just before I met DH. It was a bad one though and he massively changed his lifestyle, stopped smoking etc so that helped a lot

needastrongone · 10/08/2017 18:26

Quick post as going out for dinner (we are an hour ahead) but good for you em, you have such a sensible 'everything in moderation' attitude to this pregnancy.

Glad you had a lovely day wrecked.

Have a fab time north, if I don't 'see' you before you go. X

I've gone very brown this year and I've hardly sunbathed, I think it's the base from running.

We are going to Herculean early tomorrow, really excited about that. Today was a pool day, so we will spend only tonight's meal, about 80 Euro for 4 adults.

Loveabaconsandwich · 10/08/2017 19:44

Flowers to cag and your FIL and DH. So scary for you all.

I don't know need . Yesterday I was desperate to quit (and fed up), today was a better day. It is an impossible decision without having a crystal ball to see into the future and such a big one too.

I'm loving hearing about everyone's holidays and plans Smile

£2.80 subway
£5 Poundland snacks and colouring books

Coppersulphate · 10/08/2017 20:00

Cag, hope FIL recovers quickly. I was amazed that they put a stent in DP through his wrist while he was awake and watching it on the screen.
Need, thanks for asking after DGS. He has had his check up and is doing really well. He phoned me up and dais the doctor said he can do dangerous things again ( had been told he could not go on his bike or scooter because it was dangerous....while his ribs joined properly)..,so when the doctor said he could now go on his bike he interpreted it to me " I can do dangerous things".
So he asked me to take him to the National Space Centre in Leicester.
I think he has assumed it means going into space and he equates that with " dangerous things" .....bit like going on your bike really ...if you are 4.
I am feeling better today Sunny but didn't do much. Thank you for asking. Hope the house buying is going well.
Lovely sunny day so picked 2 3/4 lbs of blackberries from the field nearby.

Coppersulphate · 10/08/2017 20:04

I retired early and was delighted to do so. I had been saving for it fir years so was well prepared.
I thought I wouldn't manage but didn't realise how much I was spending " going to work".
I saved lots on fuel and work clothes for a start.
My problem was keeping busy. I had not anticipated being bored. So I took up several hobbies and started doing voluntary work for a charity.
I have never looked back.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 10/08/2017 21:38

Hi everyone, we are home!! Came home a night early as weather has been pretty abysmal, in hindsight I think 4 nights in a tent for someone who hasn't been camping in 10 years was a little optimistic Grin anyhow in-between the rain we had a good time.

Anyway have spent too much money and don't want to think about it yet, back to reality tomos I guess....

Hope all you guys are o.kay will try and catch up.

Laska5772 · 10/08/2017 21:51

copper I am so looking forward to retiring ! But have decided to hang it out until my 60th in December so as not to lose another year % decrease on pension for the sake of a few weeks extra working.. (even if I put my notice in now id still have to wait until October to go) .. Its not long but at the moment it feels like it .. .

Ive done the sums over and over but I am still concerned that i wont have enough though..especially as I want to go travelling .. The trouble is its less than half than what I get now.. I know I wont be paying (much) tax or NI .. ( at least i dont think ill need to pay NI, but then I might still have to until im 65 as it seems my pension has been contracted out, though i didnt know that .. ) ..

Ah the stress! and our pension people are useless, they dont tell you anything (or they do and it takes weeks) and then some things they say they cant tell you because they say they are not allowed to ..(which is worse than useless) ..

Actually it is v stressfull, my sciatica isnt getting any better , I am sure its stress, theres lots going on - work things, and family things also.

DH suggested maybe I should go to docs about sciatica (but what can they do ?) And anyway ive not been to any docs for years i dont know even if I am still on anyones list.

More Wine is the answer!

.

Laska5772 · 10/08/2017 22:10

Seriously I have this evening actually thought about going to docs.. but i wonder if I am on list still ( its been about 5 years maybe more since I went).. Also when I have had back probs before I was offered Diazepam.. (that was the last time I went) which I never accepted... so didnt ever go back. Back pain did go eventually ..

Dut now am thinking ( as I do know its stress because ive done nothing to injure myself) whether it might be a good idea after all .. Do they still prescribe tho?se.. Also isnt it addictive? and have nasty side effects? ( though id go for weight loss side effects but not weight gain ones - im fat enough is i tis ) Also Ive never taken anything like that before as didnt want to . but right now i am pretty sure the pain in my bum is actually all in my head IFYSWIM!and am now wondering ..

. I really hate going to the doctors though..( if only one could get this stuff on internet and know it was ok..)

But Im told ( through work) that its pretty impossible to get appointments with our local surgery now that arent weeks in advance.. so as ive not been for so long i may not even get one..

Coppersulphate · 10/08/2017 22:30

Laska, ring in the morning for an appointment. Of course you will still be on the list.
They get paid according to how many patients they have, apart from other things. They will love you because you don't go. Sciatica is awful, soooo painful.
It could well be stress but that doesn't make it less painful.
Yes, I love to travel but generally we don't go luxury so it's doable. We just save for it. All though at the moment every penny I have is going on this bloody house.

£10 on lunch out with my friend. We spent the whole afternoon in the beer garden. It was so sunny! Stuck to lime and soda and coffee though!
