Oh I almost forgot....if you have a Spa ship nearby they may be selling off "old lines" like our local one. I got several bags of mcdougalls flour (is that what its called??) For 25p each, in date until May 2016.

Hello all! Another LSD for me (45p on a cup of tea and 80p on a chocolate bar Blush).

I had an order arrive today of stickers for my planner. The shop on etsy I order from has little red "no spend" stickers. I can't wait to start using them never. I want a NSD now just so I can stick one in. Tomorrow is my day.

Our living room is painted but we still can't actually use it. DP should get walls finished tomorrow but doing it after work from 7pm is taking its toll. We are both now tucked up in bed. He's off Friday and will be wallpapering the alcove bits either side of chimney breast and hopefully fitting skirting board. We have worked out with some scrimping we should have enough to get carpet fitted too before Xmas. Can't wait.

I'm very jealous of everyone's energy monitors. I'm off to google.

Ememem84 · 14/10/2015 22:02

Lsd. Well. Planned spending. £10 on biscuits and chocs for grandmas birthday.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2015 22:07

girlie Bad luck but you will never forget to put your pass on the dashboard again.

electro Turn the stopcock off when they've had the regulation 4 min shower, that'll learn them Grin. I think the free water saving devices website has shower timers.

99p pizza and bleach
£3.50 pizza
£1 batteries
£180 car ins. I have MAJORLY messed up by renewing the night before it's due and it's more expensive by about £40. Just as martin lewis predicted. Still less than my previous insurer wanted for re-newing though.

Anyone live in North West Leics? they are doing free trees for us. I can link if needed.

Ememem84 · 14/10/2015 22:27

Dh has gone through my finances today. Apparently. I spent £800 in boots over the past 12 months. Just on toiletries. £800.

Sigh. I have a problem.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2015 22:49

On the bright side I bet you look fab and have lots of advantage card points.

AuditAngel · 14/10/2015 23:35

Bluetrapot I think it was you. My renewal has come through at £732, plus legal plus IPT, making about £800, plays £80 odd to split premiums across the year. This current year we made a claim of £81 for freezer contents, last year we made 2 claim totalling £860 after excess, never claimed before that.

Currently Axa via Hastings direct, will try Co-op, along with a Comparison site (miss Tesco as they saved all the info on claims), plus John Lewis, LV etc.

AuditAngel · 14/10/2015 23:46

Today £10.20 on parking and about £12 on train ticket (using Oyster) can reclaim, plus £5.79 on lunch in London for work.

Sainsbury's girl do debits £27.12 but used £25 of Nectar points.

Definitely shopping around for insurance, I hate paying for it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/10/2015 23:50

Aviva? a lot of high street banks do home insurance and offer discounts to customers with accounts with them.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/10/2015 06:50

Ouch em!

I need to do a small top up shop today plus pay parking at soft play.

Badders123 · 15/10/2015 06:58

I 're did my car insurance with the co op and it's £6 cheAper per month and I get £50 food vouchers I will save for xmas.

northender · 15/10/2015 07:46

Audit our house is an extended 3 bed 1930s semi, so smaller than yours but we only pay £15 a month for buildings and contents insurance. I was Shock at your renewal quote so here are my thoughts for what they're worth.......we have developed a slightly different attitude to our insurance and now have a higher excess than we used to and would only claim for anything over £600. This is after our experience a few years ago when I rang to ask about a leak we had had in dd's bedroom. We decided not to claim but because we had enquired, we were categorised as high risk and our premium for the next year was bumped up. At that point we decided that really the insurance should only be used for major claims so in 20 years of home ownership we have only made 2 claims. The amount of claims you have had will be making a huge difference to your quote I imagine.
The other thing to consider is what cover you have for buildings insurance. Remember, you own the land so all you need to be insured for is the cost of rebuilding your house itself not the market value and not including the value of the land it is built on. Apparently lots of people are over insured on the buildings side.

Not sure if that all makes sense but it has worked for us Smile

ipsos · 15/10/2015 07:51

That's good to know north

Collieputthekettleon · 15/10/2015 08:48

Wow north that's interesting! Good to know. I'm still a bit clueless as we've only been homeowners for 6 months. Our insurance is roughly £20 a month.

Car insurance only went down by £2 per month. Hate insurance renewals!

NSD!

needastrongone · 15/10/2015 08:59

north Interesting. I agree, I suspect the premium quoted is based more on claims already submitted than we think.

Home today. Lots of tidying, I have a Morrisons delivery coming (small) then I need to pop out and send some returns back, pick up a parcel and buy some washing up liquid (forgot that!)

DS needs walking boots and a coat, he is expedition training this weekend for his Silver D of E.

Raining here so the tumble dryer will be on, shame as I line dried yesterday.

needastrongone · 15/10/2015 09:29

Okay, so that's my mortgage switch completed. All done online and very easy. Very pleased with what the mortgage company think the house is worth too, I forget we have a lot of equity in the house sometimes. (the vast majority of said equity has been made through luck, not judgement) Pondering whether to get the house valued now....

Just off to read the meters to complete my energy switch. Gone with a small new company, so this should be interesting. I think I am in the realms of diminishing returns for getting payments down, as I do switch often. Could probably half the payments if I didn't have teenagers Smile

toobreathless · 15/10/2015 09:54

It's not been quite as cheap a week as I would have liked but considering how many I am feeding not too bad.

So far this week :
4 x coffees (£8)
Sainsburys top up shop £17
Parking £1
Clark's shoes for me - half price sale! £22 - I really needed these my old ones had holes in the soles.

My due date is today and my parents are here till baby arrives and being incredibly helpful. I had budgeted an extra £50 on food & treating them to coffees and things so not too much of a diaster.

electro This can't be right Flowers. I would try and speak to the water company and explain your financial circumstances. Your bill just seems so high. Flowers

Badders123 · 15/10/2015 10:01

Need...we re jigged our mortgage rate in the summer and I was pleasantly surprised at the valuation too :)
Nice to know there is equity there if ever needed.
It's now fixed til August 2017.

Badders123 · 15/10/2015 10:04

When my phone contract ends (December) I am going to get a sim only one (£8.50 per month)
That will save me £15 a month!
