It's cold, dull and rainy here. So I've got a video of a real fire playing on YouTube through the telly. It is all glowing and crackling and I haven't had to buy the logs or clean it out. Try it.

Obviously be careful if you have small children!

Keep a blanket on the sofa for cold evenings.

Hot drinks

Put another layer on and don't sit around.

Do some hoovering.

Slipper boots I wasn't interested in them for ages but found when I put them on that warm ankles and feet is much better than just warm feet.

The socks that have a tog rating. They're a few quid from Matalan. Layer normal socks, tog socks then slipper boots. Makes a massive difference.

A scarf. I had a gorgeous merino wool infinity one from the White Company but lost it recently

There's loads of really warm socks about at the moment - I've got a beautiful pair from H&M with fluffy stuff in. Here they are. Cosy!

Insulated mugs. Keeps hot drinks hotter for longer.

Get a pet and let them sit on you.

I currently have all three dogs laid on me. It's like three little hot water bottles.

Layers and blankets and socks. I love socks and cheap fluffy ones from primark are still warm.

I also second the slipper boots.

I also find cooking using the oven really warms the flat up so make a cottage pie, stew or similar that needs oven cooking to add some heat!!

Telly duvet. It is a duvet that lives in the telly watching room. Who needs central heating!

Two pairs of socks, one on top of the other, always works like a charm for me if I feel chilly...

DH and I are in bed to warm up- just a nap, nothing kinky!

Arm/wrist warmers. Makes a real difference. I chop up holey socks so I always have a supply - you just need a tube with a slit for your thumb. (I do have nicer ones for wearing outside the house!)

Get pregnant! I've always been an ice maiden type but have had no trouble keeping myself warm over the last nine months. Am hoping it doesn't continue when baby arrives as we'll have to keep the heating warmer.

Although as that isn't an instant one I agree with pps about layering, blankets, and snuggling with warmer DPs.

I second the telly duvet. We had one in our old house which had shit heating.

Warm your extra layers up with a hairdryer before putting them on.

I use the hairdryer to warm the bed up too.

Breastfeeding-having a baby lying across you is nice and snug.

Hot drinks and warm blankets.

Towels warned on the heater before you use them.
