It's cold, dull and rainy here. So I've got a video of a real fire playing on YouTube through the telly. It is all glowing and crackling and I haven't had to buy the logs or clean it out. Try it.

Bed socks and hot water bottles.

Coumarin · 08/11/2014 23:09

Grin at Deep Heat.

"How can it be so cold in here? It's like Greenland in here. We've got to get some booze."

Yy a thousand times yes to slipper boots. I love them. Massive yeti ones preferably.

Also hot water bottles are the best thing in the world for warming up. Very comforting too.

ChristmasKateMumsnet · 10/11/2014 12:10

Make a hot water bottle and put it into your bed about 15 minutes before you head to bed. Sexy and spontaneous? No. Warm and cosy - YES.

We've compiled some of MNers best tips for keeping warm here, if you're still looking for ideas.

Quilting is a useful hobby because you can have the quilt spread over you as you do it.

Ive got a second pair of socks on today and can feel the difference. Ive got thermal knee high socks on with a pair of those thick fluffy socks over. My feet were like ice before, not I feel rather warm

The Old Skool way - hot water bottles, go to bed early to watch TV, keep blankets or throws on the sofa to wrap in, make a flask of tea/coffee to keep in the living room, always wear socks, keep doors closed, have draught excluders by each door(make using newspaper and old tights). Apologies if these have already been mentioned

Let your DCs share your bed and then it's warm when you go up later to get in! Grin Last night i went up and DD had climbed in my bed because she'd spilt illicit hot chocolate on her duvet (teenagers....grr! love her though) and my bed was toasty warm. She, however, had to go back to her own bed with the spare room duvet!

seriously though, heated pads, warm slippers and hot chocolate with chilli from Montezumas.

Excellent advice

Hot water bottles, layers, slippers.

Tea, with brandy. Don't skip the brandy.

RetroHippy · 10/11/2014 20:24

Aldi Sherpa blankets. We bought one, decided it was too good to share so bought another.

Dog on your toes.

Hair dryer the bed before you get in.

Cup of anything hot.

But mainly the blankets. They are amazing.

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 10/11/2014 20:34

30-day shred (I even manage to heat up the living room by 0.5°C)

I do the ironing when I am feeling cold.

A quick blast with the hairdryer under the covers just before going to bed.

extremepie · 10/11/2014 20:47

I have a fleecy mattress protector which makes the bed warm underneath. It's bloody lovely and no heating at night. Smile
