It's cold, dull and rainy here. So I've got a video of a real fire playing on YouTube through the telly. It is all glowing and crackling and I haven't had to buy the logs or clean it out. Try it.

Hot wzter bottles and sex

AcrossthePond55 · 08/11/2014 16:31

Dachshunds are better than hot water bottles. I have a 'snuggie' that my mum got me for Christmas a few years ago. It's a blanket with sleeves, looks goofy as heck. I don't know what the material is but it keeps me extremely warm in this drafty 100+ yr old farmhouse. Our only source of heat is a pellet stove and it can get cold in here!

Captainweasel · 08/11/2014 16:33

Ear muffs. Sheepskin slippers. Telly duvet.

Don't empty the bath until the water is cold.

justmuddlingalong · 08/11/2014 16:52

Fleece bedding. I wouldn't be without it when the weather turns colder. Even just a fleece sheet makes a big difference.

A duvet for the sofa. I have one and it's amazing how warm you feel.
Get a pet to sit on you so you can steal their body heat.
Hot drinks.
Cold bed dance a la Miranda.
Hot water bottle.
Slipper boots. Bare feet are the worst for being cold.

GREYCROW · 08/11/2014 17:33

Lol @ deep heat!

Separate and move from your lovely (although draughty) detatched dormer bungalow in the country to a shoe box terraced town house. Works wonders Wink

Onesies.

SmilesandPilesOfPresents · 08/11/2014 18:32

Onsie, socks, dressing gown, blanket, cat, cuppa = Toasty.

youbethemummylion · 08/11/2014 18:39

Fleecy PJ's, big fluffy jumper, dressing gown, slipper boots, two blankets, a cat, a dog and a vodka and coke. I'm toasty warm but unfortunately I need a wee!

justmuddlingalong · 08/11/2014 18:43

The log burning video has been replayed all afternoon. Have lit some candles too, the room feels so cosy. Up yours gas supplier!!

Cosy socks and boot slippers.

Take up crochet and make yourself a blanket. I've made a few and they are perfect for this time of year.

Hot chocolate always seems more warming than coffee.

I have a couple of fluffy 'loungewear' tops from next which are so warm and I wear them when I'm at home in the evening.

Thermal tops are good too. I have heattech tops from uniqlo I've had for a few years now and they are great. They wash and wear so well.

Dog sit for a husky. I'm sweating here GrinGrinGrinGrin

Jill2015 · 08/11/2014 18:52

Definitely layers, lots of thin layers, for me.

VenusRising · 08/11/2014 19:03

Pull the curtains, and install cheap roller blinds from ikea as an added layer!

Star jumps with birch twig whipping Grin
See why you pull the curtains first?

Fleecy blanket on sofa, wooly socks, and a gilet. Hat and scarf. Thermos of tea on your desk.

Oh menopause works wonders for keeping warm! Blush

handcream · 08/11/2014 19:05

Definitely a heated throw. Like an electric blanket. Two socks including Heat Warmers socks which are the best.

Also of course an electric blanket, very cheap to run and put on a good few hours before you go to bed.

Millli · 08/11/2014 19:17

I have a pair of Celtic Sheepskin boots which I was given as a present this year. Now they have made an amazing difference. I wear them from first thing in the morning, till last thing at night.

At least five layers of clothing (mostly wool and cotton)

Open fire ( I have no central heating)

Blankets on the sofa.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 08/11/2014 19:39

Wrap up and go for a walk for half an hour. When you come in it will feel warm.

I have a sleeping bag in the front room I curl up in.

Totally agree with the moving idea. 20 star jumps, 30 squats, 10 burpees, jog on the spot for 5 mins. If you are still cold, do it again. (numbers are random that I pulled out of my head)

I also find baking and washing up warms me up.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/11/2014 20:04

I know it's too late for some, but don't ever buy a house that doesn't have either a gas fire/log burner/open fire in one room. It's always the electric that goes in extreme weather.

GreatAuntDinah · 08/11/2014 20:07

Put on several layers and get someone to cup their mouth on your back and blow. It's magic.

MummytoMog · 08/11/2014 21:52

Fleece blankets on sofa to sit on - so much nicer first thing in the morning, takes the chill right off. My husband laughed at me when I bought an electric blanket. He wasn't laughing when we got into a toasty warm bed that night, he was ecstatic. It's bliss.
