I keep it in the fridge but some of it is off almost right away especially carrots.

Gosh I really don't find this a problem!

Grapes in my fridge now from last week and they are fine; carrots ditto; oranges in fruit bowl ditto.

Tomatoes are never in the fridge for more than a few days anyway (DS1 is a baby plum tomato fiend). Bananas ditto. But today I ate a glorious peach which I deffo bought on last week's shop as didn't buy them this week; and a pineapple yesterday was perfect, that had been in the fruit bowl a week too.

Am I just lucky with my shopping day?

Titsalinabumsquash · 14/07/2014 00:01

I use the Aldi in Havant (Hampshire) and all the F&V is turned bad within a day or 2. Angry

Breezy1985 · 14/07/2014 00:25

I've never had a problem either, used carrots and broccoli tonight which I've had a week and still fine, fruit usually doesn't last long enough to go off though.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 18/07/2014 21:13

I've never had a problem with Aldi fruit and veg. Agree that it sounds a regional problem?

LJBanana · 18/07/2014 21:19

Yes it's rubbish, goes off really quickly and never has a date on the packaging which makes me suspicious. The green grapes are always yellowing and mushy. Morrisons fruit and veg is fantastic at the moment. Sainsburys avocados are the best!

BittersweetSymphony · 19/07/2014 20:24

My Aldi fruit and veg honestly lasts absolutely ages. I've had carrots for two - three weeks that are fine. Onions seem to last a fair while (I don't use onions that often). Ditto potatoes. I agree on the apples though, no idea what they do to them but they're always bruised.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 31/07/2014 21:18

Yes, bought 2 avocados the other day. The first one was very soft the day after I bought it and the other one was mushy and brown the day after I.e. 2 days after I bought it. Very disappointing.

equinox · 10/08/2014 07:25

Yes it goes off faster than Tescos and Asda produce in my exp. Shame though eh.

paulinuk · 10/03/2016 11:37

Oh so many moans about veg , I find carrots go of to quick, aldi buy from the growers but dont get the bags date stamped so you cant pick and choose , getting from the cage is good if your lucky enough to be there , my best buy in aldi is vacum pack beetroot , beetroot is good for you 29p for 500grm.i like aldi but am sometimes getting fed up with them, some stuff is cheaper in home bargains and does, nt go off as quick

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/03/2016 20:06

Our main aldi never had an issue with fruit n veg even stocked up on rpoot veg at 29p bag at Xmas and kjept in garage lasted good 4-6weeks however our is in nice area one on not such a nice area the fruit always looks manky. One thing we find needs eating in 2-3days is strawberries and blueberries but can find that from main supermarket I have found aldi much better than our local tesco

AuntieMaggie · 10/03/2016 20:14

No problems here - everything always lasts ages and if anything stuff is under ripe! I wonder if it's how it's being treated by local distribution? (Bristol here)

NickyEds · 14/03/2016 18:21

I did an aldi big shop last week because I've fallen out with asda (two packs if fish and a lack of meat with one day left on them in the last delivery). I found loads of it to be disappointing, fruit and veg didn't last well, crap cheeses (we had mozzarella, Cheddar and halloumi), washing powder didn't dissolve, washing up liquid a false economy, even the much famed nappies leaked! When I read on here of people making massive savings by switching to aldi I always think they must be switching from premium Sainsbury's stuff because there wasn't that much difference between the aldi shop I did and our usual asda and asda will deliver (I don't drive so had to factor cab fare into aldi shop). I'm going to give Morrisons a go I think.

paulinuk · 14/03/2016 18:51

Ugh aldi price fiddles now like tesco, s .aldi 6 veg fruit offers , once over they prices up to cover the reduction , I eat lot of beetroot was one of the 6 on offer but after shoots up to 99p , over time the average price is around 45p a 500grm pack

annielostit · 15/03/2016 09:55

paul, agree with the price fiddle. You have to check kg 100g weights on most stuff. I get some stuff in aldi when I'm being tight.careful Smile

bimbobaggins · 15/03/2016 18:40

Yes i find this and also with asda.

gingerdad · 19/03/2016 08:54

Not really had any problems with Aldi veg. But found m&s to be the worst - always avoid m&s food now.

MrsAukerman · 28/03/2016 19:48

The secret with aldi is knowing the date code on the fruit and veg. They have a number on the packs. It's something like 01/43 where the first number is the day and the second is the week. Look for the latest date. Boom.

2016Bambino · 25/04/2016 22:25

I've found it all goes off really quickly too so I've just stopped buying any fruit and veg from there unless I'm going to eat it that day. Never had problems with stuff from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Adsa etc.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2016 22:31

No,our Aldi is great though, the fruit and veg is amazing.

ZenNudist · 25/04/2016 22:37

I find the onions go off quickly but other than that it lasts forever. Aldi apparently pump their good with preservatives.

I've pretty much given up on Aldi veg as it's so tasteless.

I buy fruit, vibe cherry toms, celery, onions, potatoes herbs, leeks, cauliflower, rocket and spinach. Most other veg I get from sainsbos or m&s. It has better taste and texture.

I recently gave up on Aldi carrots. They don't taste of anything.

I do however still shop there. It's such a convenient shopping experience and good to get everything worthwhile from there before splashing out at other places.

lifesalongsong · 25/04/2016 22:38

I've started to notice this more recently too. I've had to throw so much away that it's not worth buying certain things there any more. I'm going to try Morrisons, there's not much price difference on a lot of lines now

OreosAreTasty · 26/04/2016 20:14

Have only shopped in their 4 times but never had an issue, is it an area thing maybe?

Pamaga · 22/12/2016 16:28

My OH was in Aldi today looking for fruit and veg. None of the packs had sell by or best before dates on them and, when asked why, an assitant told him it was because they irradiated their produce!

Parastars · 22/12/2016 16:43

No problems for me - I shop at Aldi every week and very rarely have to throw something away before we have had chance to eat it. Lots of different fruit and veg.
The super 6 veg is 19p this week! Amazing! I used to shop at Sainsburys until I was converted and it is just as good quality for a fraction of the price. I wonder if quality differs depending on where suppliers are located etc? I'm sure many of the supermarkets must be buying from the same places.

malificent7 · 27/12/2016 23:42

My carrots from Lidl have lasted for ages.
My sorouts were rotten though so got them in Tescos..
