Arranging coffee with a friend at my house, as opposed to our usual coffee shop.

Bringing my own packed lunch.

Remembering to renew my library books on line.

Shopping with a list, the challenge was not to stray from it.

Well done you! Today I saved money by taking my lunch to work, buying a reduced price cheese/tomato flatbread that I topped with leftovers from fridge (pepperoni and mozzarella) for dinner and paid a store card in full and closed the ac...no more interest! Grin

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 22/01/2014 22:46

Not going to a shop

pussycatdoll · 22/01/2014 22:47

Not buying a second cappuccino in Starbucks

LCHammer · 22/01/2014 22:49

Not going out and ignoring shop emails to buy stuff. In fact, I even unsubscribed from some to reduce temptation.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 22/01/2014 22:54

Going to work. Not near any decent shops. Cups of tea are free and I use their lavvy roll instead of mine.

Bringing my lunch to work.

Thebluedog · 23/01/2014 09:51

Ordering tap water with my soup rather than a diet coke (ok it was yesterday)

Passthecake30 · 23/01/2014 09:54

Putting the teensiest bit of left over chicken in the enchiladas so they weren't quite vegetarian to trick dp...

Ordering some cute pumps for dd for the summer for a mere £5

Remaining off sick...saved £20 in travel and car parking

Stayed away from the supermarkets as my cupboards are full

lauralouise90 · 23/01/2014 10:22

Making lunch instead of buying it AND I finally got my refund from Scottish Power :)

Sammie101 · 23/01/2014 10:28

Making a picnic for me and OH for our day out, instead of buying food in a cafe! And I got a free latte from my loyalty card in my local coffee shopSmile

witch000 · 23/01/2014 11:13

By cancelling my 'Next' catalogue.
I decided it's a waste of money when I shop online and never look in the book, plus it takes up valuable space in the cupboard.

Aboyandabunny · 23/01/2014 12:06

Going to Aldi instead of usual shop. Week of meals and snacks etc for our 2 adults and 10 year old for well under £40.
Have seen various threads and made time to go in this morning.
Love some of the 'middle aisle' items too though resisted today.

CuntyBunty · 23/01/2014 12:11

Going to Iceland instead of Waitrose. I got go much for my £31 and free home delivery.
It is getting towards the end of the month and I want se cash reserves for some cool boots in the Schuh sale.
Also, I add my account fast balance app to my phone. I check every day and it stops me sticking my head in the sand.

Ineedhelp88 · 23/01/2014 13:03

Having a non spend day.

I have a lot of these between Monday and Friday. Generally stay in with newborn baby watching true movies. No friends around here Sad

sooperdooper · 23/01/2014 13:10

Bringing my lunch to work, and taking all my credit cards out of my purse and leaving them at home so I'm not tempted to spend money I don't have

Dilidali · 23/01/2014 16:10

By paying upfront the BT line rental for a year.

Taking lunch to work.
Closing a store card ac
Unsubscribing from all the 'sale' emails that come in

ihategeorgeosborne · 23/01/2014 20:24

Walking into town and walking back, rather than paying £4.40 for the bus. Not a massive saving I know, but I feel good. Had some exercise too! Won't mention the coat I bought in the Debenhams sale for dd1 though, but it only cost £8. With 70% off I couldn't resist. Bought it two sizes too big too, so it will see her to senior school hopefully unless she trashes it or loses it!

JoyceDivision · 23/01/2014 20:29

Take credit cards out of purse, if you spend it is your money you are seeing dwindle from your accounjt, stopped me buying loads of tat!

Or, leave your purse at home and just have an emergency £10 or £20 in the car glove compartment for emergencies. Honestly, this is easiest way to save because you just cannot spend on tat!

I made my own soup last week, so didn't spend money incanteen and a lot healthier!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 21:20

Doing the evening meal for all of us for about £2. (Looks for smug emoticon)

serin · 23/01/2014 21:30

Wow! what did you eat Jilted?

TheNorthWitch · 23/01/2014 21:50

Took my own packed lunch in to work as I usually do (cost about 50p)

Put back 2 sale tops as not sure about them (£12)

Walked back from work (£2)

Made a stir fry of veggie odds and ends (cost about £1)

Haven't put heating on (£1-2)

Got reduced bread and rolls (cost 20p)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 21:53

Tuna pasta made with:

one basic tin of chopped toms 32p
One tin of tuna 99p
One onion
Pinch of dried herbs
Pinch of chilli flakes
Garlic clove
Tsp of sugar
Black pepper
Handful of frozen peas
Bag of pasta 32p

Ok so it might of been a little more than £2 but it was yummy and surprisingly filling Smile

  • Brought lunch to work
  • Used loyalty card to get free coffee
  • Walked the 1.5 mile from school drop off to work and back to save on parking ( bit of a cheat really as I do it more for the exercise than funds)
  • Watched my E-bay sale items go up - decided to have a bit of a clear out and they finish tomorrow, one is doing really well, the other two not so much
  • Tried to decide the most cost effective option to get our boiler fixed - sadly it seems to be a bit of a no win option for us
  • On the downside, some evil mumsnetters let me know about free P&P on Hotel Chocolat sale items so I have invested £6.55 in chocolate ( did get my 5% members discount though)
JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 22:22

pussycat first read your post as "bought a secondhand cup of coffee". Not even sure what that is...Grin
