Arranging coffee with a friend at my house, as opposed to our usual coffee shop.

Bringing my own packed lunch.

Remembering to renew my library books on line.

Shopping with a list, the challenge was not to stray from it.

DS was at a party near Dobbies over lunch - I suggested to DH that we go there and have lunch, but he said we'd end up spending money as he loves gardening related paraphenalia and there is a Lakeland there and a gourmet butchers so I would have bought stuff as well. Instead we had home made soup at home for free.

I changed the credit card bill and bank statements back to paper - that way we will get a monthly print out which we can account back to - I found that having it online meant we didn't really do that.

DH went to Waitrose to get a few bits that we needed and came home with a free Saturday Telegraph and his free empty coffee cup Grin.

Not giving in to the urge to get a takeaway. Instead I cooked pasta bolognese (had batch cooked bolognese sauce and frozen it). Saved £20/£25 and have been doing this for a while now. We used to have some sort of takeaway once a week/fortnight so are saving around £80 a month.

DeathMetalMum · 26/01/2014 04:29

Last week sometime but I used the leftover sauce and scraps of veg from our tomato based sausage and bean casserole and made it into a soup for me and the dd's lunch the next day twas lovely.

Lettucesnow · 26/01/2014 06:40

Leaving the car radio on, I flattened the battery so was unable to drive 50miles to shop. DH borrowed 'jump' machine from work to restart car so saved on garage bill.

VivienStanshall · 26/01/2014 07:01

Taking some extra fruit and veg bags to use for my packed lunches. I'm not paying for plastic bags!

Jinty64 · 26/01/2014 08:50

Broke my elbow and twisted my knee on Thursday! I can't drive now so can't get to the shops without dh. His time limit in any shop is less than ten minutes. It could be like a trolley dash - if i could push a trolley - and my dash is more like a hobble. I can't even open my purse. There must be huge benefits to this although I am struggling to see them at the moment.

We will have to eat what's in the freezer now.

Dededum · 26/01/2014 08:58

Made about £220 on eBay - hurrah. If it isn't screwed down I am selling it!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/01/2014 09:02

jinty that sounds so painful. Hope you feel better soon.

optimistmum · 26/01/2014 09:25

Changed mobile phone contract from £27 per month on O2 to £10 per month for giffgaff. I have more texts, minutes and data on giffgaff and in reality it is the same network!

nicename · 26/01/2014 12:00

I've just remembered that I have to speak to the tax man about some additional income... Bugger! I think I own them about £600arggggg! Hopefully less. I will need to call them tomorrow.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 26/01/2014 12:04

Putting the teensiest bit of left over chicken in the enchiladas so they weren't quite vegetarian to trick dp...

Is your DP vegetarian?

Nojustalurker · 26/01/2014 12:11

I think op was suggesting her dp would not eat meat free food.

Trills · 26/01/2014 12:15

This is a lovely thread. :)

Trills · 26/01/2014 12:17

I will be using my railcard to get a super offpeak ticket this afternoon.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/01/2014 12:45

noarmani, was tricking dp that it wasn't meat free, he is currently digging the foundations for our extension (builder) and he "neeeeeeeds" meat apparently!

Tomorrow I will do sausage casserole. ..one sausage each ;-)

NoArmaniNoPunani · 26/01/2014 13:06

Ah glad you cleared that up! I thought you were trying to sneak meat to a veggie. Show your DH this looks much healthier than most 78 year olds

invicta · 26/01/2014 13:12

Cut down on son's tennis lessons, as decided we were spending too much on them.

Dilidali · 26/01/2014 13:18

By refraining myself from buying a rubbish bunch of flowers 'anyway', they really weren't very nice. I saved a bit by buying a box of chocolates instead.

Cooking spuds for mash and putting chops in oven on time before going swimming, so we had I excuse to eat in the cafe. Also, bizarrely, joining private gym with lovely pools. We spend what we used to on the local pool, but go more often because it is nicer.

Ememem84 · 26/01/2014 13:40

By still being in bed. And it raining. As I was going to go to the shops.

Also made £22 on eBay today. Will do cupboard audit later and work out what, if anything, we need food wise. And am eating at parents later. (Hopefully will bring leftovers home).
