Arranging coffee with a friend at my house, as opposed to our usual coffee shop.

Bringing my own packed lunch.

Remembering to renew my library books on line.

Shopping with a list, the challenge was not to stray from it.

OP posts:

Made the children turn off TVs and unplug devices... turned the outside lights off (decorative, not security).

having checked the Eon website and found we are 65% higher consumers than similar houses in our area has made me Shock

Am also going to empty and switch off the 'drinks fridge' when it's not really needed (will have no problem in emptying it Grin) - stupid to run more appliances than needed...

bbcessex · 30/01/2014 18:10

ooh - also switched energy suppliers, and went through Top Cash Back - cheaper tariff plus £31.50 cashback.

Hadn't even heard of TopCashBack until came on here Thanks

Didn't Go To cinema with DDs as no offer I could take advantage of. Saving of £20.

confusedofengland · 31/01/2014 10:08

Yesterday I saved loads of money Smile. Firstly, made a complaint to the pub chain about 2 frankly very disappointing visits over the weekend. Somebody rang me today to tell me they're sending me a £10 voucher in the post.

Bought a new travel system for impending DS3 (3 weeks yesterday, eek!). Should have been £250 at Mothercare, but had a £20 off voucher plus went through Topcashback so got £15 there.

Instead of taking DS1 to Costa after school, I bought us some cakes to have at home & made a 'banana milkshake' with a banana that was going brown & some milk from the fridge. My choice of cake only came in a pack of 2, so I'll have to eat the other one today Wink

I'm not sure that my Waitrose free coffee and newspaper are actually promoting good frugal habits for me Hmm.

I had my list of stuff to get today which included dishwasher salt and delicates washing liquid - I very much suspect that I spent considerably more at Waitrose that I would have at Asda.

Oh well - my John Lewis cake & coffee vouchers have arrived so next Friday I can trot off there and enjoy my freebee.

invicta · 31/01/2014 16:48

Last night, went to Morrisons in the evening and bought several small loaves for 9p each. Yes, 9p! My freezer is now full of bread.

confusedofengland · 31/01/2014 16:59

After yesterday's victory, I didn't manage to save money today, but I did do some good spending. £5 at the local charity shop got me 1 school fleece for DS1 (usually about £10), 1 pair of joggers for DH & 4 books for the DSes. I was quite pleased with that Smile

AdoraBell · 01/02/2014 00:10

DDs are doing cup cakes at home To eat while watching a film instead of cinema/bowling.

Where we are, abroad, I can't do anything about utilities or phone tarifas, or mortgage rates. Very frustrating.

rookiemater · 01/02/2014 11:50

I got a Mr Frosty from the charity shop for £3 - a snip to fulfill a lifelong ambition !

V good at Waitrose today - 2 x 4 Activia yoghurts for £3 ( same price as Tesco), Daily Telegraph and coffee for free, just call me stingy !

confusedofengland · 02/02/2014 08:00

Being pregnant & therefore not drinking Grin Went on a very rare night out with some school mums, had 3 courses plus 2 mocktails, but only drank tap water with actual meal. In total spent only £23.65 - I also drove as not drinking, so there were no taxi costs Smile

Also popped in to my dparents' house late morning & they gave us lunch, so saved there - can have yesterday's lunch today Smile

stiffstink · 02/02/2014 16:02

I rescued two blocks of wood from the logpile and have fashioned my own little staircase for my spice cupboard. I can't believe how much pleasure it brings me to be able to see my spices all in alphabetical order, plus I was going to buy the same thing for £15.

I am in my early 30s. Rock n roll!

Supermum222 · 02/02/2014 17:56

I took the kids to a charity shop yesterday (each had £5 pocket money). DS9 bought an electronic football game for £2.79 and the original (new) price had been £24.99. It is in great condition and he thinks its ace!
DD5 bought a cuddly penguin toy for 99p.
Teaching kids to be frugal hee hee.

Supermum222 · 02/02/2014 18:00

£70 for dog insurance. It would be better to save it yourself in your own account then if its not needed (and, hopefully, it won't be) it is yours.

Thebluedog · 02/02/2014 18:12

To take apples, cheese, grapes and water to the garden centre so I only bought one packed lunch for the DC's.

AdoraBell · 03/02/2014 03:32

Failed To save anything Today. Must try harder Tomorrow.

Passthecake30 · 03/02/2014 09:51

Yesterday saved £5 in frankie and bennys by checking vouchercloud on my phone befire the bill arrived Smile

Wouldve been cheaper to stay at home though I guess!

HelloBoys · 03/02/2014 10:11

Will save 33% on Cafe Rouge later (with recruiter friend so may help get new job).

Didn't buy paper (Daily Fail) so saved 60p.

Local cafe where I buy my tea is putting up prices this month so will most likely make own tea.

confusedofengland · 03/02/2014 11:47

Bought some buttery spread reduced to 67p (cheapest I usually see it is £1). May buy some more, actually, as I believe it can be frozen.

Needed more clothes pegs & managed to locate the ones I'd seen last week, instead of buying new ones

Passthecake30 · 04/02/2014 17:38

Emailing asda and moaning about short bbe and use by dates over the last fortnight (chicken and brioche). Got refunds and the products have still been eaten :-)

bbcessex · 04/02/2014 18:14

Walked past the Co-Op and saw they had 24 packs of Walkers crisps for £2 - bargain! Hidden in the back of my wardrobe to stop the gannets snaffling them in one go :-)

FetchezLaVache · 04/02/2014 22:09

Saved £7.50 by going to the café and buying a coffee rather than walking to Waitrose for a free one and frittering a tenner on stuff I don't need.

rookiemater · 04/02/2014 22:12

Good plan FetchezLaVache - my weekend trips to Waitrose are getting out of hand !

invicta · 05/02/2014 08:49

Purchased two bags of. Mini Eggs (£1.50) at the petrol station, thereby saving myself 5p per litre (£1.80), so an overall saving of 30p, with the added bonus of Mini eggs to devour. :)

rookiemater · 05/02/2014 14:57

Ah I did that one invicta a couple of weeks ago- only at our petrol station the mini egggs were priced at 1.20 for two bags, but they rang through 1.50.
Young man seemed most surprised that I had gone to the bother of pointing it out so I could get back my 30p Wink.

confusedofengland · 06/02/2014 14:11

Today I saved money by:

Getting a haircut via Groupon (£19 for wash, cut & conditioning treatment)

Buying Tesco Value nappies (not used before, will see how they go!)

Using Boots advantage points, combined with 3for2 & 1/3 off offers in Boots

Going to a friends' house for DS1's tea (DS2 at nursery, am taking cakes, of course Smile)

Quite a savey day, all in all Smile
