Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

oops 4/20

oopsadaisymaisy · 05/01/2013 14:59

I spent 20 today, I only managed 2 days. I'm rubbish at this!

lorisparkle · 05/01/2013 15:18

it will be a nsd today making it 3/15 hoping for another tomorrow.
I did a 'food audit' last night. how sad! I have compiled a list of everything we usually buy at supermarkets then rummaged at back of cupboards and fridges to see what we have. next I am going to do a weekly food plan using what we have got. can't imagine this level of organisation will last long.

snozzlemaid · 05/01/2013 17:08

Managed another nsd here, we just went out for a long walk this afternoon so no temptation to spend. Hopefully will have another tomorrow as I think we'll just be at home with dcs finishing homework etc ready for school on Monday.
So at the moment I'm on 3/10.

insancerre · 05/01/2013 17:10

well done everyone
now on 3/10
go me!

PolkadotCircus · 05/01/2013 17:17

3/10 for me too.Today was a killer though.Really missed my Sat Guardian and soooo wanted a fresh baguette for lunch!

bigkidsdidit · 05/01/2013 17:21

Not for me, bOught two bus fares to a big play park and a coffee and smoothie after playing, then did a top up shop for the lunches next week.

Tomorrow I need to buy some maternity jeans and DS's birthday present but aiming for NSDs all mon-fri :)

Still 4/15

silverfrog · 05/01/2013 17:47

Not for me either. Had dd1's OT, which arguably is a 'bill' bit had to get some bread/ham for lunch too. I did only buy essentials at the supermarket though, which is a positive move as would normally have chucked in a few extra bits - usually don't come away spending less than £20, today I spent £6.65 so a big difference there.

Still 2/10 for me.

MrsShrek3 · 05/01/2013 18:37

hehe view
doing well people
Im still 3/15 as we knew with ds1s birthday thing. Hoping for nsd tomorrow unless he wants a pub lunch for birthday day out!! yes he's making a bday last a weekendHmm

TeWiSavesTheDay · 05/01/2013 18:47

Big shop today so still 2/10. Stuck to the list though!

Everyone's doing really well, I'm impressed!

AViewfromtheFridge · 05/01/2013 20:34

2/15 - it's really making a difference! Thank you OP!

NUFC69 · 05/01/2013 20:35

Just found the thread - may I join, too, please?

I'll aim for 10 NSD, I think. First one today; although I didn't spend anything yesterday either, my DH spent £1 on a cup of tea when he was out with his cycling buddies. Not sure if I ought to count that or not? Do I do it by family or just by myself? I know, if DH buys, say, food, I'll count that, as he often picks up the shopping for me, but if he buys something like the cup of tea, ie a purchase for him, I will ignore it.

So 2/10 for me so far.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 05/01/2013 21:16

Nsd is still on 1/10 as I had to get batteries! Try hard tomorrow though.

androbbob · 05/01/2013 22:00

Still on 2/10 here but was a planned spend day - DH birthday on Monday so got two jumpers from Next £30 but used giftcards that we had. Also got him a birthday card and magazine for DS again using a gift card. Spent £8 in supermarket but was essentials and stuck to my list! That has got to be a first!! Parking was free at supermarket (town centre) for first 30 mins so I sped round. I also parked at other side of town in 2 hr free parking area and walked the 10 mins to the shops, rather than paying £1.20 for parking for an hour - exercise as well as saving pennies - double bonus.

Not sure about tomorrow - planning a NSD but will be subject to amusing DC at home or free walk out somewhere.

Kids back to school on Tues, so planning NSD on Tues, wed and Thur this week - wil be tough, but just need to be organised.

citybranch · 05/01/2013 22:11

No time for a long post but I'm also now on 3/10. Finding it easy so far. Next week...we'll see!

mum23girlys · 05/01/2013 22:39

Still on 3/12 as had haircut today. £19 for 4 of us so not too scary. Also £2 for 2 coffees while hanging about at dd's dance class and £1.20 for parking.

Had a Facebook sale collected so made £10 Smile

paneer · 05/01/2013 22:46

Didn't manage to yesterday (as expected) or today. However today was only a few pounds - took the tube into London which was the only cost.
Had a picnic lunch and we saw a ballet for free! (V&A).

Living · 06/01/2013 07:25

Right, as predicted still on 1/10 (and have already had to pay taxi from airport so not a NSD tomorrow). Hoping to start going properly tomorrow!

mum23girlys · 06/01/2013 09:51

Need fuel and some packed lunch bits in Aldi today so definitely won't be a nsd.

Got another £15 Facebook sale to be collected today tho Smile

So still 3/12

TinyDiamond · 06/01/2013 11:49

by the end of today I'll be 3/15 I hope. didn't manage it yesterday had to buy bread and milk

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree · 06/01/2013 12:41

I'm doing really badly! Yesterday was meant to be a NSD but I had an unsettled tummy so ended up spending £2 in pound world as diet coke is the only thing that works for me. 3 cans for £1 and a deodorant so I can stop smelling like DH. I've had to use his the last few days Blush I did quite well though, managed to avoid buying the cheap toblerone for the first time ever Grin

Today should be my first NSD and I'm aiming for Tues/Weds too.

I've spent the last 2 evenings setting up spreadsheets to track spending on the joint a/c and my personal a/c so that should help. I know how to live it up on a Friday night Wink

ConfusedPixie · 06/01/2013 13:04

Today will be my third NSD I think!

Yesterday I had a 9.9mile walk and at the halfway point I spent £2.50 on a hot chocolate (I blame peer pressure Wink). I also popped into town to buy my boots and spent a considerable amount on a really amazing pair of walking boots with money I had saved last year (I had expected to have £300 in a save pot and had £600, so I decided to treat myself to some really good walking boots with a bit of the extra!), got my facewash from Lush whilst in town and bought a cheap wardrobe from Argos as we desperately need hanging storage space! We also did a big shop and I'll do a fruit, vegetable and milk top up on Wednesday. I've got £40 cash for the week out for the three climbing sessions that I've been roped into this week, one of which is in a new centre so I'll have to pay a membership fee on top of the extraordinarily expensive sum to get in Hmm But that's stuff that has been budgeted for so I'm quite chuffed with my lack of spending so far Grin

bigkidsdidit · 06/01/2013 13:10

well I haven't been able to leave my bloody work to get into town and buy my maternity jeans or DS's present so today is 5/15 for me. Will have to go in after work on Tuesday now.

PolkadotCircus · 06/01/2013 14:35

Did badly today as bought some sausages(potatoes were too mank for jackets but will mash them instead). Also spent 2.50 on The Times, weekend papers are my downfall, learnt from yesterday that if I keep out of shops I don't buy them so will be better organised next week.

Anybody know what the cheapest TV times publication is-often buy a weekend paper for the TV times which is false economy?

NUFC69 · 06/01/2013 14:46

Another NSD for me, so that's 3/10. I know I will need food shopping tomorrow and we are going into town on Tuesday with my DGS, so no doubt we will have a drink out (DH and I both have bus passes so no transport costs). I will now have to do some shop planning to avoid spending on Wednesday too.
