Feeling rubbish and it’s only been 4 days but a bit done tbh. I’ve been vaccinated too.

Five days is not the end of being infectious for everyone - lots of people are still infectious after that, and testing positive on a lateral flow test is a sign you almost certainly are infectious.

Five days is just a compromise that's supposed to catch most of the infectious people, without affecting business and activity too much by people isolating for longer.

PCR tests were different - on those you could still get a positive long after you'd stopped being infectious. But anyone still testing positive on a lateral flow test must have plenty of live virus in their body, because that's what those particular tests react to.

This.

The 5 days is a compromise to keep the economy going, as around 80% are not infectious then but 20% can be.

Add to that, that 20% of cases are missed by Lat Flow tests.

Just because you feel okay after 2-3 days doesn't mean you aren't able to pass it on.

@OdeToBarney I don't think I can handle 12 days of this 😔

How are you feeling now?

threefiftysix · 03/01/2024 16:40

Hi @OdeToBarney thanks for checking in. I feel much better today but still have a v dark positive line!!! Not sure what to do now as want to go about normal life but feel bad putting others at risk so I'm still staying home

OdeToBarney · 03/01/2024 16:42

@threefiftysix I think that's sensible tbh. We did go out for a walk, and I did the things I had to do (but I was negative anyway) and we waited until dh was clearly negative before visiting family members (and gave them the option to say no, even when he was negative). I think it's considerate Flowers

Ive been positive for eight days now and the line was just as dark today as the first day. I felt really unwell the day I took the first test, and the symptoms came on very quickly. I couldn't get out of bed for four full days, and yesterday was my first day of not feeling really poorly. I've already had to cancel my acupuncturist appointment once and it's looking as though I'll need to cancel Friday's appointment too 🙄

threefiftysix · 03/01/2024 18:59

@OdeToBarney yes definitely. I'm not going to be socialising for sure. I will need to get my kids to school tomorrow though 😔

OdeToBarney · 03/01/2024 19:04

@threefiftysix not much you can so is there, apart from keep your distance. Fingers crossed for a negative test soon 🙏

Mamafromthebeach · 03/01/2024 21:58

How is everyone travelling? Day 4 here and feeling ok but not well enough to be out of bed for more than a few minutes at a time. This is my first bout..

stayathomer · 03/01/2024 22:00

Mum was 11 days, dh a week, the rest of us 3 days or less.

threefiftysix · 03/01/2024 22:09

Thank you @OdeToBarney!

Hope everyone else who has it doesn't feel too rough and tests negative soon x

Growlybear83 · 07/01/2024 00:06

After testing very positive for 11 days, the line on today's test was very pale, so I assume I will be negative tomorrow. I hope everyone else who has covid at the moment is on the mend.

Felt a bit of a tickle in my throat Friday evening/Saturday but thought nothing of it. Started feeling really off Sunday evening so took some paracetamol and had an early night. Monday morning felt very fluish with aches, pains and a bit of a headache. Checked temp and was running a bit of a fever. Rested for the day, drank an ocean of tea 😅 this morning my nose is just running and blocked and driving me crazy. No temp and have been up and about all day for the most part. DH got me to test this morning as FIL is very ill at the moment. Came up positive strongly within seconds. Rest of family all negative though. Preschooler complained of a sore throat one night last week and had the odd cough, so we think that's where it came from. Hoping I will be negative by the weekend.
