How long are you all testing positive atm?

Feeling rubbish and it’s only been 4 days but a bit done tbh. I’ve been vaccinated too.

There’s no point repeatedly testing. It doesn’t tell you anything because you test positive for a long time after you’re no longer infectious- the test picks up virus fragments. It doesn’t tell you how much longer you feel ill either.
The NHS website tells you how long you’re infectious after the onset of symptoms, or from your positive test if you have no symptoms.

Catapultaway · 27/12/2023 17:50

Are people still testing?

People don't test positive for ages after contagious on rapid antigen tests.

It's a mixed bag OP. You can feel rubbish for ages after you're no longer contagious, or be contagious when you're no longer showing symptoms.

Lelophants · 27/12/2023 18:04

It’s because I have vulnerable family members who we can’t see until we’re better. It seems unclear how long you are contagious for then.

I think to be safe I’ll make sure I feel better and am testing negative. Just seems to take a while.

7 days
Was my 4th bout and the worst in terms of symptoms
18 months ago was a very light cold and took 10 days
It's quite unpredictable

This is the Covid board! Why ask if you think no one is?

I only did it because of vulnerable families who want us to and I don’t want to be responsible for finishing them off.

Lol at people still testing. Vaccinted as well. How are those vaccines working out for you?

2dogsandabudgie · 27/12/2023 20:27

I tested positive 9 days ago and had a faint positive line still yesterday. I still have a bit of a cold and taste isn't back to normal yet.

Posted too soon. Why do you think it's funny that people are testing? For some people covid can be a serious illness still.

Princesspollyyy · 27/12/2023 21:07

I tested positive 5 weeks ago. Only tested as I work in healthcare and I wanted to know if it was Covid or not.

I'm back to work but needed 4 weeks off, and I'm still really struggling with symptoms. My symptoms now are fatigue, nausea and just a general unwell feeling. Feeling like it will never end.

whatatool · 27/12/2023 21:18

I was rotten with symptoms for 5 days

Crikeyalmighty · 27/12/2023 21:20

My h tested positive on Xmas Eve morning- but is negative this evening- in all fairness though he felt shit 2 days before he tested

You do realise the vaccine doesn't stop you from catching it, right? It just helps prevent serious illness. So given that OP isn't seriously ill (or dead) I'd say the vaccine is working out quite well.

Why would you LOL at someone wanting to know whether they're infectious around vulnerable family members?

FeelinSpendy · 27/12/2023 21:34

Two people in my family have had it recently. Both tested positive for 7 days but had very light symptoms. The symptoms did hang about a bit, for quite a few days after the negative tests.

Much better than my poor unvaccinated husband thank goodness. :)

Thanks, exactly. I’m actually pregnant so really glad I got vaccinated tbh. My poor husband wasn’t eligible and is pretty sick. And like I said, we tested for our family members who asked us to. It’s not all about us.

Exactly. Apparently people who get very sick don’t matter. Don’t know why they’re hanging around the Covid board.

Last summer I tested positive for 11 days and couldn’t get out of bed for nearly three weeks. Just had another bout - tested positive for five days and felt awful for two weeks. I am looking on this latest encounter with effing Covid as an improvement on my last experience but it was still horrid.

On a related note: I understand that for some people Covid is very mild. What I would appreciate is if those lucky people could extend the same understanding and consideration to those less fortunate!

Hope you feel better soon @Lelophants!

bananasstink · 27/12/2023 21:56

I tested positive yesterday as we were due to go to elderly parents for lunch and my DP and I felt like crap. I had an immediate dark line. I have such a heavy head feeling and am exhausted. I slept most of yesterday, slept all night and still slept today. I hope I get rid of it quickly. This is only my 2nd experience if it and last time I ended up with nebulisers as I was so rough so thankfully not as bad as that

Thank you! I hope you don’t get it again now.

And I agree. First time I had it was just like a bad cold and I was incredibly thankful. The lack of empathy for others is awful. Hopefully these people don’t get too unwell the next time and infect others.

I decided against travelling to DM yesterday as usual, as she tested positive. I just didn’t willingly want to put myself and my DC in a position to get covid, ruin the rest of our hols and new year, or pass it onto my already suffering asthmatic husband!

I still want to get to see her though, she spent all Christmas alone and ill, and I’m not sure how long the contagious period is with the current strain? She started with symptoms Christmas Eve - will we be ok to go on Friday does anyone know?
