Will C&P the traditional OP in a moment, but it's this which I've been trying unsuccessfully to post for 10 minutes until I caught sight of the post count!

So true, garlic and Quarantino

It seems to be a day for me stumbling across interesting Covid stuff - look at this, wastewater surveillance aficionados, a single person is thought to have been shedding for a year whilst travelling between two Ohio locations!

Wow this is both excellent news and also worrying (by implication) , Covid Infection Survey to restart, allegedly:

After several months of radio silence from government re. anything covid, the urgency is a bit unsettling.

The (pretend) urgency is to scare people into getting the "safe and effective" injections cos no-one wants them any more and there are millions of doses rotting away.

JanglyBeads · 30/08/2023 22:46

Absolutely nuts.

That makes no sense. Lots of people not eligible for one want one. Lots are questioning the rationale around flu injections for wider groups being made available, despite flu killing and injuring fewer people.

Lots of people want them. Lots of people may need them this winter. Not everyone who would benefit will be able to get one. Again our hospitals will struggle over the winter. The vaccines need to be offered to a wider age group.

  1. Our hospitals struggle every winter.

  2. You don't get good health from a needle.

JustAnotherRandom · 31/08/2023 11:33

@EmilyBrontesGhost

  1. lots of people struggle financially in winter. Can you see how many more struggled financially last winter?
  2. Severe covid is not good for health - reducing that risk seems sensible

That Ohio thing is crazy, how do they know it’s the same person?

JanglyBeads · 01/09/2023 21:21

Thanks @Lonelyplanet. So still not enough data to say much although there may be signs of a faster spread.

Ha, when I used to work in hospitality in Edinburgh, we always used to joke about festival flu. We were all I'll come September.
Right now, it's bonkers. Having not heard of anyone with COVID since March, I know 20 plus people who have it currently, including DD and myself.
5th time in 18mths for DD.
Scotland is still doing occasional waste water testing.

Oh, shit Sad Good to hear no deaths! Developing & delivering a vaccine in such short order was marvellous, and a real testament to global co-operation. It must have saved millions of lives.

Must check to see if I've made it onto the booster list yet.

Lonelyplanet · 08/09/2023 20:32

JanglyBeads · 08/09/2023 11:51

Although this seems worrying we have to remember that as most people aren't testing, it will only be hospitals and care homes where it's spotted. It is likely to be in the local community too.

JanglyBeads · 08/09/2023 21:18

Oh indeed lonely.

High attack rate though?
