I tested positive, by LFT, on Sunday for the very first time. Ever.

I've been shambling round the house like the walking dead since then. 💀

My boss WhatsApped me and told me to enjoy the rest. 😂

When's the earliest someone has tested negative?

The first time (Xmas 2021) it flattened both me and DP for over a week. He usually never stops but we honestly didn’t leave the sofa for anything other than food and toilet for 7 days. Finally tested negative at 10 days. I’ve never been so ill and I’ve never known anything like it.

The second time was more like a horrible cough/cold and I could function pretty much as normal, just feeling rough. Tested negative by day 7.

I will say be careful of the tiredness, it seems to trip a lot of people up and it certainly did me- once you’re over it you’ll crack on as normal, maybe even more so to try and catch up only to be flattened by a second wave of tiredness! Take it easy whilst you’re ill but also in the weeks after.

get well soon!

Pixiedust1234 · 01/03/2023 01:39

It will depend on which strain you've got. I finally caught it last September and I didn't test positive until Day 5 of illness, then it took a further 7 days before I tested negative. Was still ill for a further 4 weeks though, it was really awful. I think my worst week was Week 4 so 2 weeks after being negative. Please look after yourself and rest as much as you can in the beginning.

AnnieMore · 01/03/2023 01:43

3 days for me and DH. But we felt perfectly fine. It was when people were routinely testing still, if it was now, we’d never have known.

Gingernaut · 01/03/2023 02:04

So it seems to be how long is a piece of string, then?

We're at the peak of the current wave so the likelihood of infection is high.

If you'd masked up well your viral load may be low enough to give an easier ride. If infected via very momentary exposure you may have repelled it if vaccinated. If you're at that point in your menstrual cycle when immunity dips, you may have been unlucky. That's what we're finding and we mask up properly and test regularly because any infection will take someone out of work regardless of whether they're symptomatic. Also none of us are keen on the odds against our future health prospects with covid, but that's just our tribe being into delayed gratification. A lot of people don't seem to mind getting infected and passing it on as long as they're not inconvenienced.

Hope you recover quickly and well.

changedforonenightonly · 01/03/2023 19:41

I stilll haven't had it! Not that I have known about anyway.

Had a few colds and I've tested daily but never had a positive

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/03/2023 12:07

DP has it for the first time (officially anyway) and my second time right now.

Gingernaut · 02/03/2023 12:57

I need to step away from the laptop.

I've found ebay....

I got it for the first time two weeks ago. It has been really bad and I'm still coughing/feeling tired.

It is such a wierd illness - and seems to move about the body attacking you from different angles (throat - eyes - lungs - tastebuds - temp control...) I've been under seige!

LovelaceBiggWither · 02/03/2023 13:08

Two weeks ago for me. I had a couple of bad days but it's mostly the fatigue that is doing my head in. A lot of doing something for an hour and then needing to rest for 2 hours.

Mummys · 02/03/2023 13:30

Felt rough (like a cold) for 2 days and that was it.

This was back in the days on 10 day isolation so DP and I holed up together, drank a lot of wine and watched shit tv.

I've not tested in a long time so no idea if the symptoms are different now

KnittedCardi · 02/03/2023 13:58

Dh and I finally succumbed last week. He went into London for a meeting and two days later they all tested positive, he very kindly passed it on to me!

For us it was just like a standard virus. Couple of days feeling crap, but not terrible, we got up every day and just bumbled about. Didn't have a temp, I had a terrible sore throat and pains, DH just had pains and fatigue. We both have been coughing though, I even pulled a muscle last night in my sleep from coughing! DH tested, I didn't bother, he was still faint positive after 7 days, but we have pretty much gone back to normal now, 10 days down the line. DH has gone into London today again, and now doesn't have to worry about catching int again for a while. (DH also had winter booster, but I didn't, no difference in our symptoms or severity at all).

JimnJoyce · 02/03/2023 14:02

i currently have it for the 2nd time and this time round its flattened me completely. A strong positive test from day 1 also. I took 3 days off work initially but had to go back on Tuesday this week. I still feel exhausted although the headache and throat are a lot better.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 02/03/2023 14:12

I got it around this time last year. I was really worried as I'm asthmatic but it wasn't bad at all. I had one bad 24 hours with a 39 degree fever, but after that I was just a tired version of normal. Never went into my chest, tested negative in 6 days, and had no lingering fatigue. I went on a cycle on day 7 without issue. Taste and smell was only gone for 2 days.

Meanwhile my fit and healthy DH crawled up the stairs claiming he didn't have the energy to walk and stopped half way for about 2 weeks. Coughing for a month, still didn't have his taste fully back 2 months later, and tested positive for 23 days.

Cherrymix · 02/03/2023 20:34

I got it a couple of days ago. Felt like a bad cold with fever. Am working from home but by 2pm yesterday was so tired I had to go to bed. Woke up fine this morning apart from runny nose but again by 3pm temp had gone up and was shivering under the duvet.

Feel ok now as paracetamol has kicked in.

Hope you are doing ok @Gingernaut

jizzlord · 02/03/2023 20:48

60 hours but i did have IV antivirals. Went from feeling awful to fine the next day. Dp who had it at the same time took 10 days to test negative

ItsNotReallyChaos · 02/03/2023 20:51

@jizzlord can I ask which antiviral you had? I'm eligible for them too but I know there are a few on offer and they're not all equal.

Gingernaut · 02/03/2023 21:33

Not doing well.

Still testing positive and too tired to do much except sit up.

jizzlord · 03/03/2023 00:58

It was Sotrovimab because I can't have the tablets due to contraindications with my meds. @Gingernaut I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Same but I had paxlovid
Started them 16hrs after positive test, negative after 3 days
Rebounded and positive again and I ended up testing positive for 18 days

megletthesecond · 03/03/2023 07:55

I was positive for 10 days but OK running on day 8. It was a weird virus, took days to kick in but (negative but tired and tight chest) then it suddenly went.

wonderofu · 03/03/2023 07:57

I've got it now, second time. Last time was Jan 21.

I'm having hot and cold flashes, cough which is worse at night time, one nostril is running and very lethargic. I tested positive yesterday.

WiltingLobelia · 03/03/2023 08:00

I tested positive for ther first time in October 2022.

I was lucky though (despite chronic illnesses) and felt fine. Tested negative by Day 5. DH who has no illnesses of any sort was really ill and did not test negative until Day 10 0r 11.

It's luck of the draw sadly - hope you feel better soon. Thanks

Twonkyboo · 03/03/2023 08:09

Symptoms started on Saturday but didn't test positive until Monday. Tested positive for 3 days. Negative yesterday and today but still feeling very tired. Will return to work tomorrow.

Username24680 · 03/03/2023 08:19

I had it for the first time 2 weeks ago. Symptoms started Tuesday, tested positive eventually on Saturday, negative on Thursday morning.

I agree with those saying rest as much as you can. Unfortunately I was made to work during mine and full days on my feet working with it then coming home to a toddler who wouldn’t sleep and was just getting over covid himself have left me a mess. I’m still absolutely shattered! I could easily be back in bed for a nap each afternoon 😴 and just feel generally very rundown!
