I tested positive, by LFT, on Sunday for the very first time. Ever.

I've been shambling round the house like the walking dead since then. 💀

My boss WhatsApped me and told me to enjoy the rest. 😂

When's the earliest someone has tested negative?

I tested positive for the first time yesterday, after two days of a nasty runny, blocked up nose, a bit of a cough and feeling more tired than usual. Also lost my sense of taste but it is almost back to normal now. I only tested once my adult children, home briefly over the weekend told me they tested positive on Tuesday. I have used it as an excuse to have a couple of really lazy days. I will test again tonight so that my son can decide whether or not to bring his daughter to us for the day. My husband seems fine and sees no need to test.

Gingernaut · 05/03/2023 12:47

I've turned into

Weird cross between a honk, wheeze and to finish, a whistle as the last of the expelled air leave my lungs

It's beyond painful

@Gingernaut - glad you are managing to keep a sense of humour despite being ill. Flowers to all who are feeling rubbish.

I tested because I hadn't ever had it and wanted to know if I'd finally got it. Also I WFH but am expected to go in 1-2 days a week and wanted to know whether I should go in or not.

I know everyone has different ideas about whether or not to test and I know teachers are under pressure not to test but I'm not in that position and think that the less we spread it around the better. It's a nasty virus, deadly for some & the NHS is under enough pressure already.

Anyway, all that said, today I feel pretty much normal, just fed up that I can't pop down to the shop or sit in the same room as DH to watch TV.

nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart · 05/03/2023 16:59

I tested again this morning after testing positive Friday evening and having a slight cough and a bit of a cold since Tuesday, still positive. According to the guidelines I only need to stay at home until today, but will stay away from frail elderly family members until I test negative. Frustrated about staying at home!

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 05/03/2023 17:11

15 days for me but I was allowed back to work on day 10

Cherrymix · 05/03/2023 19:04

@nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart - do you feel ill? I started with cold symptoms on Tuesday and feel fine today.

No, not really. I had a slight tickly cough Tuesday and Wednesday, felt like I had a cold on Thursday and Friday, now just slightly bunged up and slight cough. Very thankful for that of course, just frustrated I can't meet up with DP, as we both have wisely mothers.

nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart · 05/03/2023 19:08

Elderly mothers! 🤣

HearMeSnore · 06/03/2023 10:40

Another first-timer here. Only a couple of weeks ago my colleague and I were congratulating ourselves on being the only two in the department not to have had it. That was asking for it, I suppose.

Felt a bit weird last week - bit of a wonky tummy on Tues/Weds; cold sore outbreak on Thurs; bit of a scratchy throat and sneezing on Friday but it just felt like hay fever. As NHS staff working with cancer patients we're required to test so I did, and it was negative so I went to work.

Saturday - felt pretty rotten. Filled up with snot, coughing, sneezing, headache, muscle pains. Stayed in, drank lemsip and watched TV and felt ok, assuming it was just a cold.

Persistent cough started on Sunday, temp went up. Did another test - massively positive.

It's only today that I've lost my taste/smell. Got sinus pain and headache, no appetite, and getting breathless easily if I move about too much but otherwise not too awful. I've definitely felt worse with flu and some heavy colds.

It is a weird one though. No two days the same - never knowing what it'll throw at you next!

I had to get an isolation note for work, which effectively means I'm off work all this week. I have to test negative on two consecutive days before I can go back so it's not worth me testing again now until Saturday.

Neddevine · 06/03/2023 14:19

I tested this morning because I have been ill and in bed with a fever most of the weekend. No sense of taste or smell. Ribs feeling like I've been bear hugged. Also had a severe dizzy spell yesterday. This is the second time for me - had it nearly a year ago and didn't feel as bad as I do now. Have had all vacs & boosters. Struggling to stay awake at the moment.

Gingernaut · 06/03/2023 15:20

I tested positive again today (when does it bloody end??)

My boss is now agitating for a sick note, as I've been off for more than seven days.

I'm currently 3 in the phone queue to my GP after 25 minutes

I'm still wheezing when I cough and feel very flattened.

I tested positive again today too. Fed up. Hoping this doesn't go on and on, I've tickets for a gig at the weekend! I've had this cough since last Tuesday, so nearly a week.

FluffyPJs · 06/03/2023 16:12

I just tested positive for the second time but my symptoms are quite different this time. Someone suggested I may have a different strain. I've had a temp of 39.1, shivers and sweats, diarrhoea, the cough and I'm losing my sense of taste. Last time I was flat out unable to move for over a week but no temp or anything else, just extreme exhaustion and the cough. So the cough is the only thing the same. I had long covid last time and still have the inhaler they gave me so knowing my luck it will be another 6 months of coughing/ tiredness.

HearMeSnore · 06/03/2023 17:26

That's a good point about the sick note. For a while we didn't need one if isolating due to Covid - I guess because GPs would never have had time to do anything else. The guidance kept changing and I lost track but I guess it must be back to normal now.

If I test negative on Saturday and Sunday it won't be an issue, which I'm very much hoping will be the case!

IDontWantToBeAPie · 06/03/2023 20:36

Only took me a couple of days to turn negative in 2020. It was like a minor cold for me. Just a runny nose basically.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 06/03/2023 20:51

Yeah, I had it at the end of January. I tested positive on my birthday 🎉 😏

Gingernaut · 06/03/2023 21:18

I've been sitting, halfway to delirious, in front of my laptop, just after a pay day.

It's fucking lethal.

Gigs, supermarket deliveries, ebay - I need to step away from the checkouts.

I've memorised my card details, I don't even need to get it out of my wallet to pay for stuff.

What did the GP say-did you get a sick note?

Gingernaut · 06/03/2023 23:06

I'm getting a phone call after 9am

Tested positive again today. (10 days in a row??? Just how is this possible??)

Spoke to the GP who has issued a fit note until Friday.

I'm on annual leave for most of the two weeks.

It's possible because the test can pick up "dead" covid cells. People can test positive for up to 30 days. You won't be infectious after 10 days, even if you worked frontline nhs you could go back now if you felt well enough.
Hope you feel better soon

Gingernaut · 07/03/2023 18:12

The trouble is, I'm not feeling better

I'm still coughing, sneezing and sweating

How long does this last??
