Push for masks to be reintroduced

GerardusMercator · 04/01/2023 12:44

Over the last few days I've noticed a big push in media to get masks back on the agenda. A brief foray into twitter and flick through a few Covid threads here, and I've seen all the old pandemic era versions of 'it's no hardship to mask'/ your selfish if you don't want to mask etc start to creep back in.

How many of you are-

  1. Still masking now
  2. Will mask if it becomes guidance
  3. Will mask if it becomes law
  4. Will not mask again under any circumstances

I really struggled with masks and don't believe they make a great deal of difference (covid theatre) so would be somewhere between a 3 and 4.

I wore one for the first time in months the other day in Lidl. Not for Covid per se but because everyone around me was coughing and spluttering and I had one in my bag so I popped it on to feel better. I doubt it did anything though!

daisyjgrey · 04/01/2023 14:00

Oh yes? Have that on good authority do you?

Didn't think so.

It was only in the news yesterday that labour were wanting much more restrictions

Baconand · 04/01/2023 14:04

I’d say 2

I am on day 12 of Covid (2nd time), I am so dreadfully ill, as is my husband and daughter.

I will do anything advised to reduce it, it’s been absolute hell. Ruined Christmas and I am at my wits end. I actually did wear a mask once this week for an emergency trip to supermarket for paracetamol and bread. I practically crawled through the store coughing up a lung.

I’m not bothered by mask wearing one bit.

Holly6547 · 04/01/2023 14:04

I am between a 1 and 2.

RuthW · 04/01/2023 14:04

I have started wearing them again at work. It's only been about six weeks since it was compulsory anyway. (NHS).

I think I will start in shops again.

fromdownwest · 04/01/2023 14:06

I for one can not wait to be made to feel socially and economically inferior by the mask wearing, doorstep clapping, stay home Facebook hunting superior folk.

I've had serious 2020 vibes these last few days and fuck me and I never want to go back there 😂

If I'm asked to wear a mask I will 🤷‍♀️
There's worse things to kick up a fuss over !

There was already a thread on this ....
www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4707436-to-think-we-should-still-be-wearing-masks?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

Keeping on asking the question won't change the answer. We know the harms of masking now, and I for one am out.

Didn't see that one! I do not want to see a return to masks as stated in the OP.

Never worn one never will. You struggled to breathe? This is what I heard most say about it.

bakewellbride · 04/01/2023 14:12

4 I will NOT wear one!

Iluvfriends · 04/01/2023 14:13

It wouldn't bother me as i have to wear one at work. Work for NHS on a ward, we (staff) have to wear a mask, but visitors can come in without....doesn't make sense to me.

PerkingFaintly · 04/01/2023 14:13

Between 1 & 2. As others have said, in crowded public spaces.

It's genuinely easy for me as I don't get out much anyway, so I'm happy to help when I do. People for whom it's a much higher nuisance level may decide differently, and in that case it's still good for me to wear a mask to support them.

NewspaperTaxis · 04/01/2023 14:17

I'll wear a mask not least because of all those people voting (4)

No hardship is it. It's only in shops. I tend to avoid the cinema if a load of seats are already booked, though at £15.50 per film even in a matinee, that's a deterrent in itself. I'd wear one on a train but again, only if it's a bit crowded.

It's not just Covid, it's winter, there's flu around etc

SockGoddess · 04/01/2023 14:17

Yes I have returned to mask-wearing when in buses and shops, especially the supermarket where I'm mixing with a lot of people for a longer time. I've had flu and covid jabs, but I really, really don't want a nasty winter bug as I've had really bad, 2-3 week ones before, I'm self-employed and really need to try to avoid it. I've also had covid, and may be weakened by that.

I hate masks, especially as a glasses wearer, but I find it less annoying when it's my choice IYSWIM - I could take it off if I really needed to.

eveoha · 04/01/2023 14:18

I caught Covid from a nurse in my GP practice who had a v bad respiratory infection and was unmasked - she rang me yesterday after I had to cancel 2 appts because of Covid - I told her I caught it from her she lied and flatly denied she had tested positive - I am putting in a formal complaint re her behaviour 👍🏿☘️

I don’t mind wearing a mask idiots absolutely necessary BUT I am deaf and need people to lower theirs so I can understand what they are saying. I don’t like getting people getting pissy at me because I have a disability! I am isolated from society enough as it is…

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/01/2023 14:22

No hardship is it. It's only in shops

Oooh look, the 'it's no hardship' and 'it's only...' have raised their ugly heads again. Let's have a sweep on the next one to be resurrected. I'm going for 'if you can't wear a mask just stay home' - that was popular last time.

Fiji10 · 04/01/2023 14:22

GerardusMercator · 04/01/2023 14:10

Really sorry @GerardusMercator . My post made it seem like I was being sarky to you. I was frustrated by the "what's the harm" crowd. I could definitely have worded my post better

ShimmeringShirts · 04/01/2023 14:22

@MajesticElephant that must be so incredibly hard, I’m sorry. No one deserves to be cut off from society in that way.

Breezycheesetrees · 04/01/2023 14:24

FishnetsNightdressCrisis · 04/01/2023 13:39

Why not? Language has developed to incorporate ’mask’ as a verb.*

Sounds ridiculous though.

Yes, it's appalling. Like "to medal". And don't even get me started on "to podium" [shudder]

anonexhausted · 04/01/2023 14:25

I will follow the example our Government set in the last lockdown quite frankly.
