Push for masks to be reintroduced

Over the last few days I've noticed a big push in media to get masks back on the agenda. A brief foray into twitter and flick through a few Covid threads here, and I've seen all the old pandemic era versions of 'it's no hardship to mask'/ your selfish if you don't want to mask etc start to creep back in.

How many of you are-

  1. Still masking now
  2. Will mask if it becomes guidance
  3. Will mask if it becomes law
  4. Will not mask again under any circumstances

I really struggled with masks and don't believe they make a great deal of difference (covid theatre) so would be somewhere between a 3 and 4.

I’m 3. I’m very concerned about the environmental impact of the single use masks.

I wear a mask on public transport, most shops and crowded public places and in medical settings, whyever not? There’s a lot of Covid and other respiratory disease about.

Why not? Because we all managed without masks before Covid, what is so different now? People of course should feel free if they want to but don't expect anyone else to.

Spellegrin · 04/01/2023 13:33

I've never stopped masking on public transport or if I'm in a busy shop. It's really not a hardship. I'm in Spain at the moment and EVERYONE is wearing masks on buses.

mondaytosunday · 04/01/2023 13:33
  1. But I don't think the majority will go back to mask wearing without a big fight.
daisyjgrey · 04/01/2023 13:33

I dread the increase in the use of "to mask" and "mask up" more than having to wear the bloody thing.

TofuonToast · 04/01/2023 13:37

Breezycheesetrees · 04/01/2023 13:30

Argh please don't use mask as a verb!! 😱

Why not? Language has developed to incorporate ’mask’ as a verb.

TofuonToast · 04/01/2023 13:37

Oh and 4 by the way. Not falling for that stunt again.

RitaMaurit · 04/01/2023 13:39

Stupid things that make no difference to spread but cause a world of harm. I went along last time, but I'll be making myself exempt in the future.

FishnetsNightdressCrisis · 04/01/2023 13:39

Sounds ridiculous though.

Nousernamesleftatall · 04/01/2023 13:40

4 - won't wear one.

Transmission rates of respiratory illnesses are ridiculously high at the moment. The ideal would be that people would stay home if they're really poorly, but no, many carry on walking around with their hacking cough. Even if masks only reduce it by a few % then if someone is really poorly they should wear a mask. Not only about common colds, but people who have had whatever the fuck the month long virus is that's knocked plenty of people for six and so on.

Tessasanderson · 04/01/2023 13:41

Unless my employer or the law demand it i will never wear a mask again. I believe it caused as many issues as it did solutions in the long run. Especially peoples immune systems to other common viruses. I do not want to live in a society that needs a clinical level of cleanliness.

Snowmoab · 04/01/2023 13:41

Not on about*

Harperweek · 04/01/2023 13:41
  1. Never again.
PAFMO · 04/01/2023 13:42

And if masks are mandated again, they need to be proper ones, not allowing companies to cash in by making ditsy cloth ones at a tenner a pop.

hamstersarse · 04/01/2023 13:42

4 They are pointless, and worse, cause harm

Don't the vaccines work anymore?

Snowmoab · 04/01/2023 13:42

. I do not want to live in a society that needs a clinical level of cleanliness.

No need to worry about that here, a large chunk of people are disgusting and won't ever reach a clinical level of cleanliness or anywhere close.

There are respiratory viruses other than covid that transmit the same way. I don't think the vaccines claimed to cover all of them?

Blueberry40 · 04/01/2023 13:43

2 for me. No issue at all with wearing a mask if it protects vulnerable people from becoming ill. The only reason I stopped wearing one is because the anti mask brigade get quite rude/aggressive if you are someone who chooses to wear a mask.

Fabuleuse · 04/01/2023 13:43

Either a 3 or a 4 for shops, social outings and that kind of thing. Happy to wear one when asked for any kind of medical appointment.

RitaMaurit · 04/01/2023 13:44

If someone's really ill, ideally they should stay at home! Which is what most people used to instinctively do before Covid.
Now they just sling on a mask and go about in crowded places, and lean over immuno compromised people in the supermarket spreading their germs around. Masks don't reduce spread!

And don't get me started on the effect on the environment. Or on children's development.

Had enough of this shite.

Meseekslookatme · 04/01/2023 13:44

3/4 if it's mandatory I will wear one that I made in a lovely breathable fabric. So a useless one.
Most of them are useless because of people tugging at them and mucking about with them.
As others have said, they partied whilst our vulnerable died. They can fuck right off.

RedRiverShore2 · 04/01/2023 13:45

QueefQueen80s · 04/01/2023 13:47

Isn't it just if someone is ill? Then it's a good idea.
But I hate the things, hope they don't come back generally.

KillingLoneliness · 04/01/2023 13:47

I use one when if I’m sick and need to go out and I know some others who still use them at work/out and about.
