To ask if we’re heading for another lockdown?

TreeLine6 · 09/10/2022 11:32

So covid cases are rising and like clockwork, the likes of independent sage are back in the media calling for ‘protections’ like masks, isolation and social distancing to “avoid full lockdown”.

Is it time to reintroduce some measures like the rule of 6, a cap on large events numbers and maybe distancing and early closure for hospitality as independent sage are calling for?

Personally I feel that with vaccines and treatments, we are now in the best position we’re going to get with covid and would be very reluctant to comply with further measures, that themselves cause enormous harm.

i was thinking when i was walking my dog yesterday, although i did go out to work during 2020
but people were restricted to one walk a day
i thought yesterday , No way would i follow that restriction

@Whyarewehardofthinking

Herein probably lies the problem. We are also vegan runners and healthy eaters - no vaccines for flu or Covid ever. Our daughter didn't even catch it. Anyone unvaccinated that we know has hardly had any symptoms. I was back doing a 5k on the fifth day (positive for four days). A doctor friend's whole family, all boosted to the hilt, were completely floored by it too.

Absolutely not

KatherineJaneway · 09/10/2022 12:16

There will be no further lockdowns or WFH. We cannot afford it as a country.

Ozgirl75 · 09/10/2022 12:16

I meant winter, not Christmas!

I think it would be good idea to protect the most vulnerable. The way our economy is going, I dont know whether anyone actually care about Covid anymore

Dh is one of the “vulnerable”
No way is he isolating

He did the first time but it did so much damage to him that he has refused to again.

Lockdowns have devastated my family more than the actual virus.

Handsoffmyrights · 09/10/2022 12:16

I'm with most pps that it will be hard to enforce and people won't comply.

However, when the scaremongeting starts, it worries my mother (75). She believes the Govt as 'gospel' and before we know it, we'll be outside in the garden on Christmas Day again, because they have her running scared.

She has poor eyesight and nearly fell down steps in the city centre by not holding the handrail - because the Govt was OTT about touching surfaces.

YellowTreeHouse · 09/10/2022 12:16

No. The public won’t put up with it.

We’re not doing the lockdown/masks/testing bullshit again. Covid is here and we have to live with it - it isn’t going anywhere.

Stop fearmongering and get over it.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 09/10/2022 12:17

I don't think we should lock down, but I would be massively in favour of a change in approach to infection control in our society. Masks if you are ill would be a great start, as are masks if you are vulnerable (although I have tried wearing a mask recently at work and I can't breathe enough to climb a set of stairs). Not sending ill kids to school, being sensible about going to another house if you are full of a cold. I am full of a cold right now, having to use my inhaler more than usual, and it is because I have been surrounded by teenagers coughing their guts up and sneezing everywhere.

Little things would make a big difference.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 09/10/2022 12:17

YANBU to think this but it won’t happen. As others have said we can’t afford it, however if they do go ahead with the warnings of power cut blackouts majority of hospitality places may well indeed close more and more people may be staying at home anyway

x2boys · 09/10/2022 12:17

Cases were inevitably going to rise as the weather got cooler more people meeting indoors, and schools have Been back for while this isn't brand new information, we had all rhis last year with omicron, and we didn't lockdown and things remained relatively stable
Unless a new variant emerges that is vaccine and treatment resistive and cases and deaths rise widely out of control I really can't see the country locking down again we are in a very different position to march 2020.

PeekAtYou · 09/10/2022 12:17

Definitely not. Liz is more right wing than Boris so won't care if people die from the cold, Covid or malnutrition

you were lucky - there is no medical basis for your comments. The majority of those needing hospital care were/are unvaccinated.

Satsumaonaplate · 09/10/2022 12:17

Well i personally wouldn't comply AT ALL. I'm sure a majority wouldn't. Especially after partygate !

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 09/10/2022 12:18

Nope.
Our children have already been left with enough financial burdens from the last lockdown. They will be working to pay it all off for how many years even though their education, emotional and social needs where neglected on a mass scale.

I also don’t support masks being made legalised to be worn again either. It was horrific for us who cannot wear them the last time.

EmilyBrontesaurus · 09/10/2022 12:19

Like many other people I think we won't have another lockdown as we cannot afford it and it would be difficult to enforce as many people would refuse to comply.

butterfliedtwo · 09/10/2022 12:20

I had covid for months, still dealing with side effects from it, and I am disabled and chronically ill. There is no way I'm doing lockdown again. Living alone through that almost killed me. I had the plan ready. Nope, not again.

Don't start spouting anti-vaccine shite. The vaccine isn't the problem. ALL of the data supports the fact that the vaccine made a significant impact in reducing impact of disease and deaths.

Honestly, you make my job as a science teacher fucking harder.

Funkyblues101 · 09/10/2022 12:21

The last lockdown was a joke, with every man and his dogwalker claiming keyworker status while quite a lot of us dutifully sat at home being taken for mugs. Not doing that again.

Kennykenkencat · 09/10/2022 12:22

BeyondMyWits · 09/10/2022 11:42

I wear a mask FFP3 on public transport and if I have to go somewhere really busy.

Seeing more people doing that too now, last month maybe one other on the bus, this month (figures are back up to 115 per 100,000 and rising here) 5 or 6 people are wearing masks.

Can't see there being any special measures reintroduced, people would ignore them. I already get grief over wearing a medical grade mask for my own protection, so I'm guessing folks wouldn't do even that

I will start wearing a mask when the whether gets colder more to prevent colds rather than Covid.

My colds turn into something akin to flu and was pleasantly surprised that with mask wearing came no colds.

LimboLass · 09/10/2022 12:22

No chance.

Might as well end the thread because unless a mega deadly variant crops up the chance of another lock down is zero.

Eeksteek · 09/10/2022 12:23

They can’t, can they? They lost all respect and any remaining shreds of decency when they didn’t comply with the last one. It was only for ordinary people.

It doesn’t bother me, so long as schools stay open. But do have to do something. Live with it (which I agree we must) means more than just ignore it. I expect Liz is hoping it will finish off the NHS, so she can break that up and sell it off to her mates (who will buy it with our money)

I can’t see any reason why people can’t wear masks most of the time. I agree it’s mildly inconvenient. I don’t see why we can’t reintroduce routine testing and isolation for people who have covid. And we should absolutely be funnelling resources into the nhs to make sure they can weather it. We do for flu.

KangarooKenny · 09/10/2022 12:24

We can’t afford lock down again. People need to decide upon the measures that make them feel safe, and use them.

CapMarvel · 09/10/2022 12:24

Even if one was deemed necessary the government have lost all moral authority to ever impose one. People wouldn't abide by it and in hindsight I think most people now question whether the cost of lockdown was truly worth it.

Marmunia1066 · 09/10/2022 12:25

ALL of the data supports the fact that the vaccine made a significant impact in reducing impact of disease and deaths.

Really? I'm really not seeing the evidence!! Even my unvaccinated 81-year-old mother had no symptoms.
