Is covid growing rampant again

I read an article online and it says it is growing. Another article says that a newer symptom for starting off is a sore throat.

I am in work and my colleague and boss both have sore throats.

I'm supposed to be going away on holidays. I feel fine to be honest but the idea of getting sick right now or withing the next week doesn't appeal to me.

I'm so disappointed that I have had an exposure. I know for now it's just a sore throat for others and I am fine but there is potential for this to worsen. This is my first break and holiday since 2019 and now this.

I'm so so so so sick of everything right now.

I had a sore throat and it turned out to be a sinus infection, not covid.

CoffeeDay · 05/10/2022 15:10

I had it four weeks ago, triple vaccinated (booster was last November). Either I was lucky or the people with the mild cases simply don't come online to write about it. It was totally unspectacular and the symptoms were virtually identical to my vaccine side effects. A bit of sweatiness and feverish feeling for a day and that was it. No sore throat, no cough. Sinuses felt a bit swollen from the inside but never got mucus or a snotty nose.

The only reason I tested was because I really wanted to know if I had it so I can finally relax afterwards. If I hadn't bothered testing then I would never have assumed it was covid and still gone about my life.

refreshingseahorse · 05/10/2022 15:10

Just had it for the first time. It started with a sore throat then was largely a headache and nausea. DH had no sore throat, but had fever and upset stomach. We tested because we were visiting older family members.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/10/2022 15:12

Still yet to get it.

MrsFezziwig · 05/10/2022 15:22

Well to be honest at this stage nobody else gives a rats ass any more about germs and passing on their doses. It's just a sore throat. Many people lived with sore throats for years. If it progresses. The vulnerable just needs to isolate if they don't want to catch it.

Why are people moving about knowingly being sick and just passing it on?
I went to work today to find sore throats all around.
The home covid tests are hit and miss.
At this stage I wouldn't normally worry but I have my first holiday since 2000 and fucking 19 and then this. I can't enjoy one week off. I'm fucking raging.

Extracts from two of your posts @Prizlime So basically in the first you’re saying that it’s only a sore throat and it’s up to the vulnerable to isolate if they don’t want to catch it, but in the second you’re kicking off because people are doing the same as you and it might spoil your holiday?

But you don't know you've been exposed, not every sore throat is covid. We had the dreaded back to school cold a few weeks ago, sore throats, runny noses, headaches etc. several negative LFTs each, same as most people I know, just colds! Colds/cold like viruses are in really heavy circulation this time of year

triptrapdollydumpling · 05/10/2022 15:32

I’m on day 5 and feeling rotten

I hope you don't miss your holiday. Anecdotally everyone I know who has flown recently has got covid. I'd be wearing a FFP3 if I was flying.

It's not just a holiday. My last week off and holiday was back in 2019. I worked in the health service all throughout the pandemic and never got a week off since summer time of 2019.

I need this week off so bad and now I have a boss and a colleague coming into work with a sore throat. They won't isolate or wear a mask. And it's literally like saying 'go fuck yourself on your holiday'.

I don't want to get sick on holidays. There's 52 weeks in the year and I already experienced many sicknesses this year (4 rounds of sickness) due to people coming into work sick.
I don't want to get sick again. Not right now.

I’ve tested positive today! I feel like I’ve been hit over the head with a shovel and then steamrolled over afterwards! Not one part of my body isn’t affected and I have severe asthma too so I currently sound like I do mucky phone calls and breathing like Darth Vader

first time Covid for me and I’ve had all my jabs!

So you have not had A/L all this time???

PigglePuggle · 05/10/2022 16:11

I had covid last week, started off as a sore throat and I would have just presumed it was a cold but my friends baby was hospitalised with covid the day after I saw her so I did test for it, it took a few days until I got a positive so I ended up spreading it to two members of my team at work. I stayed home after the positive test but it was too late by then. Thankfully it was just like a bad cold for me this time around - when I had it before I was wiped out for 2 weeks!

Oblomov22 · 05/10/2022 16:14

Definitely growing. I work for an ambulance service and we have loads of staff off and patients with it too.

@QuebecBagnet i tried to log DS’s current positive test on the Gov site, but because it wasn’t a free NHS test it wouldn’t accept it, so you can’t log every test.

Make your mind up - you've stated you'll happily pass it on of you're well enough to stand yet you're moaning about other people doing the same? Hypocritical, much?

I think it's so important for people to realise that early or mild symptoms has the potential to turn into covid. But it seems as if its a great sport passing on a dose.

It's a lesson I learned this year that nobody else is going to give a damn about others. If I get sick again, I will be passing it on because everyone else is doing it.

I had a few days here and there but you're talking about a day here and there. I wasn't allowed a block of days together since summer of 2019. The pandemic was used as an excuse to work me to the bone.

The only days I was allowed off was sick days. I had covid in the summer and that my first week off since 2019.

This is my first holiday.

@Prizlime yes this is my first dose of Covid, but am fully vaccinated and boosted. Not sure that means anything though?!

Ineedwinenow · 05/10/2022 16:41

Prizlime · 05/10/2022 16:18

But according to so many people it's just a little cold.

For me I’d liken it to really bad flu or something far worse, it hurts to walk, I can’t stand , all my body is aching and hurting at the same time and I genuinely felt like I was dying earlier! I couldn’t breath, my temperature went dangerously high and at one point my husband was going to ring an ambulance as he couldn’t wake me, I was covered in sweat shaking but not responding!

This isn’t a little winter cold! It came on overnight and now I can’t get out of bed! i was absolutely fine yesterday and now I can’t stand up

111 have advised going straight to hospital if i don’t respond again but there’s a 12 hour queue in our A&E , no ambulances ( hence why my hubby couldn’t ring one) and i genuinely don’t think I can sit in there for that length of time feeling this poorly

I hope other Covid positives on here feel better soon
