Is covid growing rampant again

I read an article online and it says it is growing. Another article says that a newer symptom for starting off is a sore throat.

I am in work and my colleague and boss both have sore throats.

I'm supposed to be going away on holidays. I feel fine to be honest but the idea of getting sick right now or withing the next week doesn't appeal to me.

It's knocking about in university again hardly surprising with all the inbound flights students arrive on. Schools pretty good. Workplaces hit and miss. It's going to be like flu this year I suspect

Yeah, right. Britain has been such a covid-free haven, it must be 'those forriners' who have brought it in.

dubyalass · 05/10/2022 20:10

I tested strongly positive this morning after developing a mild sore throat, shivers and fever yesterday (when I was negative). Bit of a cough and sneezing lots. First time I've definitely had it. Feeling better today than I was yesterday but aware that might change! Can still smell and taste at the moment.

Two of my colleagues have had it in the past fortnight, and I suspect a few more will after we were all in the office together yesterday. Hopefully I haven't infected anyone.

verdantverdure · 05/10/2022 20:34

I seem to know a number of people who have just caught covid who haven't had it before.

Rowenadayday · 05/10/2022 21:20

Yes, it will every year now, forever ☹️ Combination of school terms plus virus survives longer in cold dark weather.

You’ll notice that it flares up in September a few weeks after schools go back, increases steadily, is big problem in November, dips somewhat in December while schools are shut, becomes a big problem again in Feb and then goes down and is almost gone over Summer…

Thecatisboss · 05/10/2022 21:24

I tested positive today after being sick the night before. Had covid before in July and before that last September. Think it is rife at the moment.

I thought we had a peak in July/August this year?

Clarabe1 · 05/10/2022 22:38

I have had covid twice, first time before being vaccinated and the second time after been vaccinated 3 times. There was no real difference either time. I felt horrible so stuff the vaccinations and balls to testing. I am getting on with it

DialsMavis · 05/10/2022 23:11

I've got it for the first time, I genuinely thought I was special and wouldn't get it as DH and DC have had it multiple times between them and haven't distanced from them and always tested due to vulnerable family members.

Just cold symptoms, I only tested as was supposed to have a spa day tomorrow (MN cliche 😂) and I wanted to be able to confidently tell therapist it wasn't Covid if I sneezed. I felt rough on Monday but definitely on the mend now I think.

This is so depressing to read. I am so sorry to read that you are sick with covid. We're you sick in July too?

This is absolutely completely unsustainable. It's like a flu that is flying around every 3 or 4 months. You can't live a sheltered live hiding from the virus but then the consequences is the possibility of sickness every 3 or 4 months.

I hadn't read all posts when I posted saying its like a cold for me! I know how bad it can be for some, from one of DH's bouts and others in my circle who have lost relatives or developed long Covid.

Covid is absolutely fucking vicious and cruel. From my experience in July. You feel fine one minute and one part of the day, then you are down again with something or another.
The amount of times I texted people during the week I had covid to tell them that I am on the mend now just to do a turnaround and find a new issue - more fever, loss of taste and smell, body aches, sweats. You feel fine one minute and then the next you are not.

I remember one afternoon thinking I was feeling better so I decided to tackle an IKEA flat pack only I struggled with it so much and got none of it done and then I fevered again and went to bed.

It does seem to be rising again but it’s that time of year.
with most people having to pay for tests now during a very real cost of living crisis, and being unable to take time of work I can see why people aren’t testing so the true numbers are probably a lot higher.

hopefully the deaths won’t increase but it’s always this time of year that all the bugs and colds get a bit rampant, I’ve been struck down with an odd sinus/sore throat thing over the last few days that’s knocked me for six but have tested and so far all negative!

Long covid is unknown.

When I got covid I became unwell several times after my infection. I was afraid of long covid.
I read before that covid can hide out in the body and that's what long covid is, apparently. Apparently its hiding in the body and then it brews up from time to time. I read that it can live in the gut. I have gut issues as it is so I took laxatives and cleared myself out and followed a liquid diet for a few days. If I get covid again I will do the same to try and prevent long covid. There's no medical stuff and I have no guidance from a medical professional to do this but this makes senses to me. Just in case covid is hiding in my gut, it makes sense to clear out my system with laxatives and flush it out with a liquid diet.

Do keep me informed about your condition and if you test positive or not. My boss and colleague both have these symptoms. Sore throat and sinus.

OP if you are concerned that you think your colleagues may have Covid and you have to go into work but are worried to catch it in case you are unwell on your holiday - could you not wear a mask yourself when you go into work - just to protect yourself at the moment ?

Anotherguy · 06/10/2022 00:00

I had a very scratchy sore throat on Monday and Tuesday, tested negative.,got breathless this morning on a short walk and tested positive.

triple jabbed, never had it before.

felt a little sick, very tired, struggling to breathe though unless I’m laying still and even then I have to breathe through my mouth.

and it’s been my birthday for 1 minute haha, happy birthday to me! Can’t see me leaving the sofa!

nightfairy · 06/10/2022 00:04

Well to be honest at this stage nobody else gives a rats ass any more about germs and passing on their doses. It's just a sore throat. Many people lived with sore throats for years. If it progresses. The vulnerable just needs to isolate if they don't want to catch it.

Lovely.

nightfairy · 06/10/2022 00:05

Long covid is unknown.

Ignorant.

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 06/10/2022 00:06

Haven’t noticed an uptick in the folks around me. But I doubt anyone is really testing.

I’ve just had a horrible cold/bug and (the last of) my tests were negative. A friend has a sinus infection with a cough. So we’re coming down with other things.

Felixfeather223 · 06/10/2022 00:34

I think we need medium to long term solutions which will benefit us with regards to health threats, viral and otherwise. We need to start thinking seriously about how we get better at ventilation, air filtration and things like heating and air conditioning too while we’re at it - in schools, hospitals, carehomes, public transport etc. Ventilation is in many ways a major part of the puzzle, and figuring out how to manage and generate clean air more broadly could also help us save some of the 30-60k who die every year in the UK directly due to air pollution. We did it for water and sewage before, now we need to get serious about air sanitation. Covid is airborne, and so are a lot of things detrimental to human health.

The problem is energy crisis during winter means ventilation is potentially going to be even worse this year and could seriously impact on spread in carehomes, hospitals, schools and potentially even restaurants and bars.

@shinynewapple22 a mask won’t reduce much of the risk over hours of exposure unfortunately, especially if there’s more than one case in the room. Open windows, 2m distance and mask will probably work fairly well but that can be hard to get buy in for, especially if it’s cold.

Nanalisa60 · 06/10/2022 00:49

Covid is here to stay we just have to learn to live with it. Get your fourth jab if you can, wash hands , wear a musk if it makes you feel better. If you start to get a sore throat go straight to bed so you body can fight it. We will all probably get it again this winter. Had it twice already except to get it again this winter.

funzeny · 06/10/2022 01:03

@shinynewapple22 confirmed Covid or not if you feel ok you have to go to work. That's why they stopped testing.
My sister is a nurse felt awful. So tested everything day. Then started to feel better, only then she showed positive for Covid .but had to go in feeling Ill as had no cover. But by the time the test showed positive it's too late !

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 06/10/2022 01:19

I have it for the first time, I’m on day nine of testing positive and day ten of symptoms. I have have felt horrendous, recovery is really slow, my head and ears have so much pressure my ears are constantly ringing, I still get feverish, I feel dizzy and weak, still cough every now and again.
This is definitely not just a cold. I don’t know when I’ll get back to work, line manager is on my case demanding I have two negative tests before I go back, never mind if I may actually feel well enough. She’s forgetting a zero hr contract works both ways 🙄🙄
My job requires good concentration, something I don’t have anymore as my head feels like it’s full of cotton wool.
I think maybe my age thats not helping, 60 with asthma.

A lot of jobs don't allow it as time off now !
My sons teacher at high school last week said he was positive but just wore a mask. Can't call in sick anymore
