We've just had covid but genuinely curious what others are doing. Many people are saying they are doing regular lft tests because so many people have covid right now and before seeing vulnerable family members.

We haven't lft tested since our isolation ended which was in the last week.

I've been surprised today that my parents and siblings are not doing regular lft's! I know they aren't compulsory but my grandma and uncle who live together and see my family regularly are vulnerable due to age or health issues - but triple boosted.

My grandma doesn't really grasp how serious covid is. She's pretty healthy but still a risk in 80's! She's pretty chilled about it.

My parents and siblings are all going out and about too which of course they can but 2 of my siblings are totally unvaccinated as don't want it, the other has had 2 jabs but refusing booster. Parents are double jabbed but don't want booster! No mask wearing etc. I know you can still get covid with jabs but transmission is reduced.

We are meant to be seeing them this week. If we hadn't already had covid very recently I'd be really concerned but I'm hoping that because we've just had it, that we will be protected but say we had delta, concerned about omicron.

No, as ever I’d avoid people and get a PCR with symptoms but I’ve never donee LFT

elvis4nuts · 27/12/2021 21:42

Every day. Why wouldn't you with the numbers as horrendous as they are?
It's free and takes less than 2 minutes.

You don't do It for yourself. You do it to protect others. And hope that others are doing the same for you.

WheelieBinPrincess · 27/12/2021 21:44

Every day?! How unnecessary. What a horrible waste of plastic.

I’m doing my first one in months tomorrow because we are going to a party.

Absolutely. I was doing them regularly before getting covid. Dp had covid and it picked it up for me before my symptoms started (although I had already been ill with another virus just before I tested positive!).

I'm just worried about my grandma tbh 😪

Whenever we are meeting up with people outside the house. Children have to do x2 per week at high school. Having said that we are finding the supply difficult at the mo so not as easy as it once was.

Can't get hold of any. Saving the 4 wehave left...

Sally872 · 27/12/2021 21:47

Yes, I do them before I see family and I check family are doing them too. I am not too worried for our household but I have been seeing older relatives so being careful as possible.

rrhuth · 27/12/2021 21:48

Yes we are. When on work & school we are asked to do it twice/week. We time these to align with e.g. swimming lessons to avoid needing to do extra tests for those (they also request it).

In holidays (like now) we time the tests around social events.

The important thing is to try to test pretty much just before an event.

The government is asking people to test.

HailAdrian · 27/12/2021 21:48

I don't test every day, I did before Christmas as I was seeing my grandparent. I've seen suggestions on other threads that it's time to just crack on if you test positive but are feeling fine and people reacting in sheer horror and I feel so sorry for those people because that's where we are headed. Testing and isolating will be scrapped eventually. Probably fairly soon as well.

You may be able to ask school for some.

In my area the big testing venues have them you can collect I think?

pompomsgalore · 27/12/2021 21:51

If we are leaving the house. We also only meet with those who have done tests. Lots refusing though. It's like an ostrich effect, people don't want to know so bury their heads. Selfish I think.

I'm lost for words here Hmm

Yawn. The word 'selfish' is so (wrongly) overused on this forum that it's lost all meaning.
gloriousgolden · 27/12/2021 21:55

@santaclothes does it genuinely not concern you the sheer volume of plastics being thrown into the LFTs?! 🤯

These people eat, sleep and breathe covid, the environment is of no concern to them at the moment.

Bingo!!!! ‘Selfish’

How selfish to be chucking plastic and taxpayers money away every single time you leave the house, when you could be taking basic sanitation measures including ventilation, keeping distance and not relying on a test which is not 100% accurate and which we are all paying for. Selfish I think.

Downtown36 · 27/12/2021 21:59

No. Not going to test anymore unless symptomatic and then with a PCR.

It seems so absurd that we are testing in such high volumes for what presents for more as a cold. Add to that those vaccinated, boosted or with natural immunity I think we need to change our mindset and accept we are going to be living alongside it like we do with colds and the flu.

santaclothes · 27/12/2021 22:01

No, not at all.

bloodywhitecat · 27/12/2021 22:01

I am testing every 48 hours.

santaclothes · 27/12/2021 22:01

Why?!

Because I'm not very articulate so don't know how to explain my WTF at your comment.

Or maybe she’s just choosing to not live her life in fear. In your 80’s any disease is higher risk. What do you want her to do? Stay in on her own forever?

LoveBeingAMum555 · 27/12/2021 22:02

No chance. We live in a rural area and can't get them anywhere so have to rely on postal deliveries which over Christmas has been very slow. We are down to our last one and DS has just come out of isolation as he tested positive last week.

Local chemists can't keep up with the demand for tests, it's a joke..

KylieKoKo · 27/12/2021 22:02

I am at the moment but this is because I'm in London and all of my friends currently have or have had covid in the past month so I'm a close contact of many. The only reason I don't have it now is because I had it at the end of November but I know that's no guarantee. I'm taking the tests because I feel fairly safe to socialize as I think I have natural immunity acquired from my recent infection but as I've been in contact with so many people with it recently I don't think it's fair for me to go out without double checking. I don't see this as a waste of plastic as I'm mitigating my risk to others.
