We've just had covid but genuinely curious what others are doing. Many people are saying they are doing regular lft tests because so many people have covid right now and before seeing vulnerable family members.

We haven't lft tested since our isolation ended which was in the last week.

I've been surprised today that my parents and siblings are not doing regular lft's! I know they aren't compulsory but my grandma and uncle who live together and see my family regularly are vulnerable due to age or health issues - but triple boosted.

My grandma doesn't really grasp how serious covid is. She's pretty healthy but still a risk in 80's! She's pretty chilled about it.

My parents and siblings are all going out and about too which of course they can but 2 of my siblings are totally unvaccinated as don't want it, the other has had 2 jabs but refusing booster. Parents are double jabbed but don't want booster! No mask wearing etc. I know you can still get covid with jabs but transmission is reduced.

We are meant to be seeing them this week. If we hadn't already had covid very recently I'd be really concerned but I'm hoping that because we've just had it, that we will be protected but say we had delta, concerned about omicron.

the ones where you have to out to a testing centre, I mean.

Oh, ok. Well the thread is about lateral flow testing.

No I’m not and didn’t before seeing family over Xmas. No one is clinically vulnerable in our family though and have all had both jabs and their booster so thought it was fine. Also, none of them were doing LFT’s, I think ideally you and everyone you are due to meet need to do them rather than just a few of you.

We test before we go to meet with people. It is the responsible thing to do, and it's what you're supposed to be doing.

Why wouldn't you?

What are the chances of those young people who plan to go clubbing this NYE testing? According to DD most of her friends actively don't test because they do not want it to impact their social lives and ability to work.

I thought this was recommended in order to catch the asymptotic cases? maybe it's cause i'm in one of the London hotspots. Read another thread & so many people saying not testing as no symptoms which surprised me. I have to test regularly for work & so many colleagues/friends have come up positive this month. I know 3 people who missed holidays.

19tmy Dd and her friends are all testing before clubbing and big nights out, and even group nights in. Dd has about 10 friends visiting here tomorrow evening and all are testing beforehand. They did the same before Christmas.

But they all live with family over the holidays and have all been seeing grandparents, etc. so are being careful.
Infact they are also avoiding contact with friends who have a positive case in their households too. One girl was due to come tomorrow but mum is now positive so she is no longer coming, just incase.

I don't think Dd and her friends are unusual either. Friends Dd tested before going out yesterday. She tested positive. Didn't have symptoms at the time, though has since developed some. She was negative when testing before seeing grandparents on Christmas Day.

@Abraxan I think some are doing this but many are not. Regardless of whether a group of friends have all tested before going out, it's Covid dodgeball as soon as you enter busy pubs and nightclubs. This is not a dig at young people BTW more of a window into the reality of life outside MN especially now as Boris Johnson has given the green light to party.

No. Only if I’m specifically asked to.

acatcalledjohn · 28/12/2021 15:10

I only do LFTs if I have a case close to me (I've been at work up until Christmas), before I go to visit someone who is vulnerable or if I have symptoms.

A colleague tested positive on Boxing Day and I last saw them 3 days before that. However, as I've been nowhere other than for a walk (at night, so no one around) since finding out I am not bothering with a test yet. I do need to go to a shop tomorrow though so will do a test before that given my colleague's positive test.
