Presumably today the dashboard will resume. Is there an announcement planned or just rumours so far?

i think it is too soon for meaningful up to date hospital data

This is true. The government seem determined to only take reactive measures, waiting for more people to become gravely unwell. By that point it's too late.

They're doing exactly as they did last year. I don't think things will peak to that extent again, but the complete inaction of the government will yet again result in people dying before their time.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 27/12/2021 12:14

4pm apparently

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 12:15

The rolling news channels are just showing old features this morning and hardly any up to date news.

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 12:33

The Mail thinks that Boris Johnson will ' go it alone' and not have any more restrictions yet.
They haven't updated their websites much today though ( so far)

Can’t you just enjoy your Christmas and forget about the television and covid

Have you ever considered that people may only be worried because it potentially affects their jobs and livelihoods? I think it's easy to say enjoy Christmas and forget about it, but if you're facing January being out of work it's easier said than done..

People might want to know if the government will ' cancel ' NYE in England I suppose , plus hospitality workers and owners too The other devolved nations have done something different , which is unusual. Forums like this one just help people discuss what may happen : the data / stats thread is also informative too.

I would do however I am having my proper family Christmas with my husband and DC plus sister, mum, dad and nana on the 29th as that was the only day we could all be together. Its been a miserable Christmas with DH working, can't get to family homes as they all live on first floor with no lifts and I'm a wheelchair user. and lots of time feeling like a "single parent".

I am really nervous that he may announce something before Wednesday and scupper my only chance to see my family over the Christmas period.

CovidforCrimbo · 27/12/2021 12:49

I guess BJ is popping to Waitrose to get a few cheese boards in while Carrie goes to Oddbins for the wine. They'll all review the numbers, make up some guff and tell us to get boosted.

What do people think will happen with schools?

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 12:49

The coronavirus threads are informative and the pandemic hasn't gone away.

If people are bored with it then just avoid these threads or block them
So far nothing seems to have changed. The data is probably screwed because of Christmas and people not testing or getting a pcr too I suppose. Or waiting for their results

MumbleCrumbs · 27/12/2021 12:51

@SpookyScarySkeletons

4pm apparently
I've not seen this announced, where did you read this?
Blubells · 27/12/2021 12:52

What do people think will happen with schools?

Nothing - the Government have already said that schools need to stay open! They would be the absolute last thing to close imo

If individual schools lack teachers, then there might be one off closures.

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/12/2021 13:00

@MumbleCrumbs the Mirror had a bit of a misleading 4pm headline, but it seems that's the time that the statistics are being released and when the PM is meeting with Whitty and Valance to discuss the spread..

So from that I'd say it's unlikely there'll be an announcement today.

No national closures. It would be incredibly unpopular, can't achieve the aims of the policy without substantial furlough options and if Johnson tries it then his backbenchers will boot him out.

There may very well be ad hoc local closures due to staffing though, unfortunately, and those are probably baked in at this stage.

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 13:07

Whoever released the photos knew what they were doing regarding any further ' lockdowns ' or whatever ! My non existent money is on Rishi Sunak , no more money for England so party on and hope it's all going to be ok.
It's a gamble so far

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/12/2021 13:08

News outlets all seem to be going with "Boris is NOT announcing any more restrictions today" now, so assuming there is unlikely to be anything today but who knows!

IcedPurple · 27/12/2021 13:09

It would make sense for us to follow Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Seems strange to be crossing borders and having different rules.

But that's how it's been throughout the pandemic.

And it would only 'make sense' for England to follow the 'rules in the other nations if those 'rules' themselves make sense, which is by no means certain.

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 13:11

I don't think anything will happen at all this week at all to be honest , the government know that nobody will follow any more rules anyway. Not at the moment anyway
I think it'll just limp on day by day , must be hard if your a nightclub owner though :(

PartyPrawnRingGames · 27/12/2021 13:11

I've seen 4pm mentioned but couldn't tell if it was an announcement or just updating the figures.

Absolutely they did, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were more. I mean, how many gatherings do we have evidence of now, half a dozen? The odds of those being the only ones in several months of restrictions seem low.

Jobs, my dear. Jobs. Those things a lot of people have to pay their way in the world.

Yea I saw the news alert pop up on my phone but yes after reading the article it was very misleading!

the80sweregreat · 27/12/2021 13:22

Who knows? The data can't be that good because of Christmas and the pcr's being processed etc. it's just common sense that the bigger picture will be hard to know for a while yet! Hard on people though , especially as the other nations are doing something different etc
