We've been self-isolating due to seeing family on Christmas day however we have had to go to essential hospital appts and DH needs to get his Mum's shopping today.

I was wondering how likely it is to get in a supermarket as I haven't heard anyone getting it from there.

Where have you caught it from?

OP, if the only way for your DMIL to have food in over xmas, he'll have to do it. Personally, if I wanted to reduce the risk I'd go 6-7am or after 8.30pm when less people go - also I popped into Tescos around 2pm - there traffic light system is in operation and I had to wait a couple of mins - the place was packed with Mums and children doing their xmas shop - if you go early far more likely to single people/couples and not families, so he can distance.

School.

delightly · 22/12/2021 14:41

We're trying our best to stayed isolated where possible but some things we've just had to do. Fingers crossed!

Who fucking cares. It's a cold for the majority of people.

Staryflight445 · 22/12/2021 14:52

My daughter caught it at school. I’ve been sat in the same room as her all week keeping 2M distance as much as I possibly can with her age and haven’t tested positive yet- am waiting for my pcr results though.

(Im not an absolute cock isolating myself as much as possible from my child, I’m pregnant and worried about the effect it’ll have on me even though I’m vaccinated).

Highly doubt you’d pick it up in the supermarket if you distance yourself from others.

SirensofTitan · 22/12/2021 14:52

@seventyminutes

You can certainly get it just from the supermarket there was accounts of people not going anywhere but food shopping and still getting it last year
I agree that there were reports of people saying that but that doesn't mean it was true.

At that time it was the original alpha variant and as far as we knew at the time it was extremely unlikely to be transmitted by passing someone in the supermarket.

Unless it's changed recently there was only the one case in Australia where they were able to prove transmission from a passing contact in a shop.

Staryflight445 · 22/12/2021 14:53

@sausagepastapot yes, who fucking cares- it’s just a cold that’s killed over 5 million people worldwide.

🤨

Terminallysleepdeprived · 22/12/2021 14:54

Dd got it first. Probably from school or dancing

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 22/12/2021 15:02

I got it from my school.

Passthewinebottle · 22/12/2021 15:39

Pretty sure DD got it from school, it was rife before they broke up, though I didn't find out til after...

Soubriquet · 22/12/2021 15:40

I got mine from either my dh or my ds. Don’t know where they got it from

St0rmTr00per · 22/12/2021 15:42

school

TangfasticsAreFantastic · 22/12/2021 15:45

A colleague of mine has it. He only comes to work or does the school drop off in the morning. No-one in work has it. Neither of his kids have it and there's not a mass outbreak at the school. The only place he's been in the last week other than work and the school gates was a shop at lunchtime or a hospital appointment with his child.

I'd hazard a guess and say he's most likely, unfortunately, to have caught it in the hospital.

I am not virologist though, so what do I know!?

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 15:48

I know someone who thinks they got it from the vaccine centre. I told them they just as likely got it from the bus there!

Delatron · 22/12/2021 16:57

I would think hospitals are quite high risk environments.

herecomesthsun · 22/12/2021 16:59

They will be even more high risk if staff are told to self isolate for fewer days.

StationaryMagpie · 22/12/2021 17:02

work place. ;(

hellosunshineagainx · 22/12/2021 17:16

My partner who caught it from someone in the office-the company doesn't follow the wfh guidance

Foolsrule · 22/12/2021 17:23

DC got it from school. It was absolutely rife but they wouldn’t close. Last year they closed three classes at the drop of a hat when 1 kid was ill 😩

x2boys · 22/12/2021 17:30

My kids both have it now so I assume school ,they go to different schools though so don't know wether they caught it independently or from each other
This is also Ds1 second time testing positive last time in n July Hmm

Covidwoes · 22/12/2021 17:34

@Foolsrule schools have to follow government guidance now, which is to stay open. Last year the guidance was to close down bubbles if there were any cases.

CakeRabbit · 22/12/2021 17:53

Don't blame schools for following guidance. They don't get a choice.

awonderfuladventure · 22/12/2021 18:15

A concert in October - Iwhat an idiot I was going to one. My sister came and also got it.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 22/12/2021 18:18

School probably

StoopitAutocarrot · 22/12/2021 18:26

@sausagepastapot it may just be a cold, but if those who test positive have to self isolate for 10 days, and that’s the cleaners who are making sure workplaces are safe, or lorry drivers who are keeping supermarket shelves stocked, or delivery drivers not able to get your Christmas presents delivered, before we even start on NHS and other staff providing essential care, then it quickly has a massive impact on all of us.
