Does this sound like Covid?

DH has practically lost his voice. Throat doesn’t really hurt but he’s just so croaky. Very slightly snotty but only a little. He feels fine otherwise. He’s done a PCR but I’m just so panicky that it’ll be positive and mess up Christmas - anybody else had these symptoms and it’s not turned out to be Covid?

Sorry but my DC had this. Very croaky voice and thought it was laryngitis. LFT negative. Starting coughing a few days later and LFT then went immediately strong positive and PCR confirmed it. No other symptoms and recovered completely in about 5 days. I wasn't told if it was Omicron or not.

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 21:41

Thanks @TappThatJazz
It’s mad that people can have the exact same symptoms but some are positive and some aren’t.

Thanks @moolia
Bloody hell this thread is a rollercoaster ride! I’m being lighthearted but in all seriousness, we’ll be devastated if it’s positive. We lost a family member a few weeks ago, it will be so, so awful if we can’t be together for Christmas.

I am 2.5 weeks into a horrible virus. Started with losing my voice. Then a sore throat, persistent cough, runny nose. I feel utter shit.

It is not covid. My husband has also had it. So there is hope as there is a nasty virus doing the rounds.

TappThatJazz · 21/12/2021 21:49

@Clueless2000

Thanks *@TappThatJazz* It’s mad that people can have the exact same symptoms but some are positive and some aren’t.
It's so hard to judge isn't it. There were 60+ cases in my children's small school and I work in the adjoining preschool. We're all still negative with me having a PCR as symptomatic and my children lft as asymptomatic.
ZippyZap · 21/12/2021 21:55

We have had virus after virus since September, every single time I swore it was going to be Covid as the symptoms matched up to what most people had... Did lateral flows daily through feeling crap as well as pcrs, all came back negative! Literally have had about 6 different bugs and not one came back positive.... So don't give up hope yet! We currently have excessive coughing, croaky voices, snotty, flushed faces, sore throats for 3 days... But all lateral flows negative and waiting on pcr results... If the lateral flows don't pick this up (if we are positive) then the country may as well get rid of them! As we have been doing 3 a day for everyone with symptoms

ohcantbeliveit · 21/12/2021 21:57

I have a very croaky voice and ever so slightly snotty.

I have covid 😬.

itsgettingwierd · 21/12/2021 22:03

This term I've had

Really sore throat cold.

Headache and slight chesty cough

Headache with sneezing

Bad sinus pain with blocked ear.

None symptoms of covid. All when I'm around covid daily (that's schools for you!).

Always negative LFT and always negative PCR after contact.

I'm actually really concerned I'll have asymptomatic positive on LFT and be isolating over Christmas!

Point is we've had these symptoms in school population for months. Some people it's Covid - others it isnt.

However everyone who has had cocos has had positive LFT with minor symptoms before positive PCR

Isitmeorthemm · 21/12/2021 22:07

I have the exact same thing and it does feel like acid reflux but I've done a test as my ds rested positive 12 days ago so kts not looking good for me...although having said that my other ds who shares a bedroom with him had a sore throat and tested negative on 2 tests so who the hell knows anymore!!

Icequeen01 · 21/12/2021 22:19

Well 12 of my 15 work colleagues (including me) have all tested positive since Thursday. Everyone started with the croaky voice. One of them only tested positive yesterday after repeated LFDs and 3 PCRs, the last one of which was positive.

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 22:38

Aaaarghhhh it’s such a shit waiting game!!!

…. He’s just had a positive lateral flow. How the hell is that fair?

OP posts:
Chanel05 · 23/12/2021 18:43

Oh no @Clueless2000 ! Is going for another PCR?

Solidarity! I'm isolating and will be over Christmas and my birthday :(

Madcats · 23/12/2021 18:43

Commiserations. I hope it's just mild, but annoying for you all.

Time for you to dash to the shops and scoop up provisions for a boring week.

Clueless2000 · 23/12/2021 18:48

Yes he’s going for another PCR but it’s unlikely to be negative isn’t it? It’s been an awful year - this is the icing on the cake.

Solidarity to everyone else having a similarly crap time.

The waiting game had started Sad Sore throat ,runny nose , coughing and my lower back and legs are so painful I just don't know what to do with myself. I have a rapid test that I have sent off as I on some anti viral scheme because I am cev but triple jabbed .Supposed to be working Christmas morning then taking Dc's and Dh to see Older DC who lives away and is coming down and grandparents now it is all up in the air .My DH is adamant it is not covid as as all my lft have been neg have been close contact but with ppe on but suppose there Is that slight risk. Going feel utter shite if I can't work Christmas day and I ruin it for everyone. Sorry utter feel sorry for myself post I am normally a really upbeat person but this has just got to me the waiting for the result. I have done it numerous times and do weekly lft and parts at work but the first time I have ever been displaying symptoms. I rang gp for some steroids incase my asthma kicked off and they gave me some and said my symptoms are all symptoms of covid and to do a pcr Sad.

Girlintheframe · 23/12/2021 22:04

My SD had a positive LFT but her pcr came back -ve 🤷🏻‍♀️
She didn't however have any symptoms like your DH

Clueless2000 · 23/12/2021 23:52

So sorry @Autumnalblooms - hope it works out ok for you and you feel better.

@Girlintheframe yes, if he didn’t have symptoms, I’d be a lot more positive!

Autumnalblooms · 24/12/2021 00:54

Thank @Clueless2000 Flowers can't sleep so sat here with a bowl of cornflakes. At least I can taste 😌.

Clueless2000 · 26/12/2021 19:53

Another question - the new 7 day rule on isolation where you can stop isolating if you get a negative LFT on days 6 and 7 - how does that work? Because the general guidance is not to test within 90 days of having Covid as you’ll get false positives?

OP posts:
Autumnalblooms · 26/12/2021 21:18

Mine did come back positive but I am over the worst of it now but it was horrible .Just completely zapped me off all my energy .Not sure how it works with the lft I have to do two neg then I can go back to work the middle of next week .

Clueless2000 · 27/12/2021 01:43

Glad to hear you’re over the worst @autumnalblooms DH still not had PCR back but he definitely has it. He’s feeling worse as the days go on.

Still don’t get the 7 day thing. If you don’t get a negative on day 6 or 7 and just have to do the whole 10 days, what if a day 10 LFT was still positive? I know you don’t have to do one on day 10 but what is it about the magical day 10 that suddenly makes you stop being infectious? I’m not explaining myself well but does anyone know what I mean??
