Does this sound like Covid?

DH has practically lost his voice. Throat doesn’t really hurt but he’s just so croaky. Very slightly snotty but only a little. He feels fine otherwise. He’s done a PCR but I’m just so panicky that it’ll be positive and mess up Christmas - anybody else had these symptoms and it’s not turned out to be Covid?

Lots of different viruses circulating this year just like every other year. Both my children are recovering from an awful cough that wasn't covid

MrsPear · 21/12/2021 20:19

Yes both me and ds age 12.

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 20:20

Thanks @Xmassprout that’s what I’m hoping! I know no one can really tell me for sure - I’m just clutching at straws because I’m so worried I won’t be able to see my family.

That’s @MrsPear - hope you’re both better.

Do had croaky and snotty and his pcr was negative. I was just snotty.

StormBaby · 21/12/2021 20:23

Sad to say I have tested positive and started with these exact symptoms sore croaky throat on Friday. I’m now absolutely full of cold, bunged up, cannot stop sneezing, very lethargic.

wintercoffees · 21/12/2021 20:23

It took 2 days for mine to show positive and those are the symptoms I had

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 20:25

I’m so sorry @StormBaby and @wintercoffees hope you’re ok.

It’s basically 50/50 isn’t it??!

I had similar symptoms and it was Covid. I reckon your chances depend on where you are in the country. Cases in London are sky high so if you are here it's probably that

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 20:30

Yup….Greater London…

boomboom1234 · 21/12/2021 20:33

Has he done a lateral flow?

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 20:34

Yes it was negative but that doesn’t mean much does it?

OP posts:
Pedalpushers · 21/12/2021 20:35

My friends with those symptoms found that the symptoms started before the lateral flow came up positive, that's in London. Most people I know with covid also have a headache?

Madcats · 21/12/2021 20:38

Whatever it is, if he isn't tiny, I'd try to give him some honey and lemon in hot water.

Hope your Christmas works out the way you'd hoped.

I had gastric flu over Christmas when I was 5 and what is left of the family still remember 1/2 century later. (PS they left me and my Mum to it an decamped up to grandparents).

Ifitistobesaid · 21/12/2021 20:38

Yes those are exactly my symptoms.

Siameasy · 21/12/2021 20:43

Fingers XD it isn’t! My symptoms were a weird throat and tight chested I actually thought it was acid reflux

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 20:57

Oh dear…I’m not optimistic…

Pawsin · 21/12/2021 21:07

My partner and I have just got over the worst cold we've ever had. It wiped me out for over a week, was convinced it was covid as never felt so ill with just a cold before, but after several tests it was all still negative! It seems like all bugs are hitting people worse at the moment, I work in a nursery and we've had pretty much every single illness you could think of in the last couple of months! Obviously only way to tell is with the test results but it might surprise you (hopefully anyway!)

Pawsin · 21/12/2021 21:10

Forgot to say - the similarity was that I also had a really croaky voice/lost it but weirdly my throat didn't hurt either!

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 21:17

Oh no @Pawsin !

OP posts:
Pawsin · 21/12/2021 21:21

I meant for my post to be reassuring in the fact that it might not be covid, I've just read it back and realised that even if it's not covid the prospect of being ill for a week isn't too great either 😂

ChristingleJingle · 21/12/2021 21:24

Sorry, that's exactly how mine started. BUT equally could be A N Other cold/virus too...

Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 21:35

Oh sorry @Pawsin I didn’t read it properly - you didn’t have Covid! That’s good - but also rubbish that you felt so ill!

OP posts:
Clueless2000 · 21/12/2021 21:36

I do hope so @ChristingleJingle

OP posts:
TappThatJazz · 21/12/2021 21:38

Yep I had the exact same. I also work with preschoolers and have children in KS1 where covis was rife! PCR negative
