We gave our dds (ages 11 and 9) Matilda tickets for their birthdays and we have so been looking forward to it. They have never been to London before, never seen a musical before and we got front row seats and everything. And we've completely spent our xmas budget so can't afford to do anything fun tomorrow instead. I'm so sad Sad

Thinking of still going to London for a day out, seeing as we've bought the train tickets...

I don’t blame you for being gutted. How frustrating! Definitely still go into London, it won’t be the same but you can still have a lovely time.

Newuser82 · 21/12/2021 17:47

Ah that’s so sad! How about the museums in London as they are free??574 science museum and natural history museum are amazing for kids.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/12/2021 17:48

Definitely still go. You can enjoy the decorations.

toots111 · 21/12/2021 17:48

Natural history museum is shut due to lack of staff. On another thread earlier someone suggested you could try and get last minute tickets to another show. Frozen? Lion king? School of rock?

toots111 · 21/12/2021 17:49

I’m assuming that Matilda will give you a refund?

toots111 · 21/12/2021 17:49

But generally going to London if you haven’t before is always fun!

TheKeatingFive · 21/12/2021 17:49

That's a shame OP, I'm sorry.

Go to London anyway, see the lights and the shop windows. It'll be fun.

Notonthestairs · 21/12/2021 17:50

Natural History Museum is closed until 28th. There was someone else in the same boat on earlier - there were some lovely suggestions.

Ice skating, ice cream at fortnum and mason, there will be other shows on so you might be able to get a return, Hyde park.

VikingOnTheFridge · 21/12/2021 17:51

Worth seeing if there are any other shows you might be able to get in for at the last minute?

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 21/12/2021 18:30

I'm now at loggerheads with my DH who thinks we shouldn't even go to London as they have cancelled the show for a reason and the risk is too high. He says we need to protect ourselves so that we can see family at the end of the week. Apparently London will still be there in January.

But it won't be the same will it? No xmas lights, no xmas theme at Hamleys which they've been waiting ages to spend their birthday money at.

And I'm much more likely to have caught omicron from having 4year-olds in my face every day at school for the past few weeks. Oh no, I forgot, schools are safe aren't they. Silly me.

I wish covid would just DO ONE.

They will LOVE London. And Matilda, she will wait and you can look forward to that (my favourite musical!)

Effectively they now get two trips to London. Go and have a fabulous time xxxxx

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 18:32

Ahh, sorry to hear that.

They've probably cancelled because the actors have got Covid. I'd still go to London and enjoy it.

PotteringAlong · 21/12/2021 18:34

Just go to London! I’m with you; enjoy the lights etc!

LynxGiftsetAndSocks · 21/12/2021 18:34

I agree with your DH...why would you want to potentially catch covid and spoil other plans for the sake of Hamleys and a few lights?

rrhuth · 21/12/2021 18:36

Oh that is so disappointing Sad

What happens to your tickets then - do you rebook?

I don't know what to suggest because I think your DH is right that things are bad in London, but if you are not using public transport you can keep away from others quite a bit.

ZenNudist · 21/12/2021 18:37

I'd go to London anyway. It will be shit in January and anyway covid isn't going anywhere. If you're in school you're more at risk at work than you are wandering around London. Go without him?

bestdhever · 21/12/2021 18:40

Surely you will get a refund fir the tickets @thirdistheonewiththehairychest ?

Figgygal · 21/12/2021 18:41

I wouldnt bother without a purpose this close to Christmas if seeing family in a few days

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 21/12/2021 18:45

So sorry op. I'm afraid lots of the museums and galleries are shut. I would wait until there is more fun to be had here!

WiganDiva · 21/12/2021 18:46

I’d still go. I think most children care more about lights and Hamleys than seeing family. Adults forget this.

FrownedUpon · 21/12/2021 18:47

Covid is rife here in London. I wouldn’t be coming for a day out if you don’t have to.

Nomaj · 21/12/2021 18:47

We went up two weekends ago and Hamleys was absolutely rammed. It was horrible, people kept just pouring in. We took one look and left.

Go up to London to see the lights and walk along the river but I would stay outside.

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 21/12/2021 18:49

The Globe Theatre on South Bank has tickets available tomorrow afternoon for The Fir.

The theatre is open air (no central roof) so covid ventilation is not a problem. It looks like there are tickets available for standing in the open which are only £5 each and come with hot chocolate or mulled wine.

SouthOfFrance · 21/12/2021 18:49

Since you are going to get omicron at some point anyway, like you say, I'd be going to London anyway. Even with some things closed you will still have a lovely time staying in the hotel, having a wander. There will be something on you can do that will be fun. If your DH doesn't want to go you could always go without him

Lacedwithgrace · 21/12/2021 18:52

Good luck going to London right now. Fucking hell. Glad you're fine with catching covid, what a privilege
