Who will be isolating over Christmas? Dd tested positive this morning ☹️

Just feeling thoroughly cheesed off. Dd (9) has tested positive this morning 😫so we’re executing Christmas plan b (just as we did last year when she got notification to isolate at 6:30pm on Christmas Eve 🙄).

I know there are worse things to happen but…😫.

Had anyone else’s plans had to change?

Same here. One DC perfectly well but got a positive PCR result. The rest of us negative (and adults jabbed/boosted). Other DC not happy Xmas plans canceled but what can we do? It’s wrong but there’s part of me that wishes we’d never done LFTs in the first place (only because grandparents were meant to come over). Obviously no one wants to put elderly people at risk or spread the virus but presumably DC has also picked it up from someone who was unaware. You would not know they were unwell at all. Zero symptoms.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 21/12/2021 13:14

It’s so frustrating isn’t it? I’m sorry that your plans are up in the air too. Dd had a headache and temp first thing (which is why we did the lft) but seems ok now.

Yes us. Grown up son who still lives at home has tested positive for Covid. Sigh.

Chocolateteabag · 21/12/2021 14:27

Yup - I got the present no one wants on Sunday morning - positive PCR test. So our trip this week to see me family called off and fully expecting a spanner to be thrown into any idea of seeing them all after Christmas too.
We haven't a decent amount of time all together in years and DSis has Stage 4 cancer so who knows..... Sad

Anyway, it's all shit - I feel like I have a horrid cold and have no sense of smell - silver lining is that I don't fancy any of the chocolate I'd bought to take home, or the booze - might not put on quite so much chunk this year!

User2638483 · 21/12/2021 14:28

Yep, we’re in the club. 6yo dd positive lateral flow yesterday and is feverish and coldy.

Have you had a PCR?

What LFT did you use?

My dd has (three separate times now) tested positive on a LFT (flowflex ones not other brands) and every time the PCRs have been negative. We’ve done more than one each time to be sure.

I have since reported the LFT brand on the yellow card scheme as it’s so frustrating.

HardbackWriter · 21/12/2021 14:33

Same - 3 year old tested positive on a LFT on Saturday, and the PCR came back positive yesterday. The rest of us are testing daily on LFTs and currently still negative.

Like a PP a tiny, very selfish bit of me wishes I hadn't got him to do the LFT - it's actually a bit of a weird coincidence, we (the adults) do them a lot but I don't normally do them on the children. I don't really know why I decided to on Saturday - bit of a sixth sense, maybe? I know it's for the best really but it does feel slightly unlucky - especially since it doesn't seem to be spreading to the rest of us as I initially assumed it would.

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/12/2021 14:39

but I don't normally do them on the children. I don't really know why I decided to on Saturday

Why? So they not mix with other children? Grandparents? Attend nursery?

Because testing a three year old and an 10 month old is hard and distressing for them - the only reason I did on Saturday is because DS1 agreed to put it up his own nose (and I was amazed that the tiny swipe he did actually produced a positive test), I'd decided a while ago that I wasn't going to hold him down while he screamed for another test unless I absolutely had to. The actual advice is now that DH and I take daily LFTs since we live with a positive case but that DS2 doesn't because he's under 5, and Wales now don't advise testing an under-5 at all unless told to by a doctor so there's obviously recognition that it's really not great to be constantly sticking a test up a baby or preschooler's nose.
noodlezoodle · 21/12/2021 16:14

Me. Tested positive on LFT yesterday and this morning, sent the PCR off just now.

No idea what Christmas will look like now.

DancingQueen2018 · 21/12/2021 16:17

12 of DD1’s class have tested positive since Friday, she’s still negative but very much feeling we’re living on borrowed time…..

petalsandstars · 21/12/2021 16:23

Double jabbed and boosted and positive result today. Very mild symptoms - but no seeing family or friends now over Christmas and New Years will likely be cancelled through new restrictions. Typical end to avoiding COVID for 2 years despite working throughout!!!

Us🙋🏻‍♀️

My eldest DD(11) tested positive at the weekend so it’s a quiet family only Christmas. Huge outbreak in her class and the school haven’t bothered to close for a deep clean!😡 they closed today for Christmas and there was 2 kids left in her class of 31.

bumblefeline · 21/12/2021 16:41

DH tested positive today almost exactly a year after having it. I'm just grateful I went and did a big shop yesterday.

SleepymummyZzz · 21/12/2021 16:43

Us too. DH has tested positive on PCR (multiple negative LFT) I have same symptoms but tested negative on PCR. I won’t be going out either as find it hard to believe I’m not going to come down with it and am also not going in same room as him just in case I haven’t caught it. Feeling very lonely 😞

I know this seems really frustrating for you, but can I point out that the school aren't actually allowed to close for a deep clean. They can only close if they don't have enough staff! I'm a teacher, we had a similar frustrating situation our own school where we asked to be allowed in the class to do a deep clean and were told by county that we were not allowed to make that decision. The Message to schools is to keep children in school where are the possible. We did the best we could to deep clean once the children had gone home. To be honest though, I don't think it matters how much cleaning you do – it's airborne and most schools don't have adequate ventilation
Titsywoo · 21/12/2021 17:02

Yes me and DH got positive results today. We are supposed to be hosting PIL and some friends so feel pretty shit about it all. DC are both still negative so we are moving xmas lunch until new year and hoping the kids don't get it. Both DH and I have runny nose/sneezing/cough so really hope we don't end up too ill. DC are teens so they are going to do a xmas food shop or we will have nothing in to get us through. Will keep testing them every day.

SergeiL · 21/12/2021 17:19

Me. The rest of the family have been isolating from early December. One after the other. Most of our plans already cancelled. Now I am positive but they are all free. I wouldn’t mind but didn’t have loads of socialising plans. Was just looking forward to nice walks and stuff.

TheGodWorm · 21/12/2021 18:03

Us. I did LFT on DS who is 11yo. Did it on Sun lunchtime as a precaution because we were going to see his grandparents. It was positive instantly. He is asymptomatic. I presume he caught it at school. We (mam and dad) are not keeping away from him. We had booster 3 weeks ago.

So our plan to have both sets of our parents over on Christmas day has gone out the window.

Ghostlyglow · 21/12/2021 19:02

Yes, me

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 21/12/2021 20:02

I’m sorry so many of you have had your Christmas plans ruined, it’s so very disappointing ☹️,

I hope you all manage to make some alternative plans and can enjoy Christmas albeit in a slightly more low-key way.

To be honest, as it's airborne, and there has been no documented cases from surface transmission, it's very unlikely a deep clean would have made the slightest difference... It's not like norovirus...
Dollymantra · 21/12/2021 20:31

Us! We’re already going mad with young children.

Covid picking my family off one by one. Nursery age child got it first. We will be free on 30 December.

I have known few people with Covid during this pandemic and suddenly the cases I’m hearing of are exploding. Lots of people isolating this year. Wasn’t the case last year. Hospitals are going to be overwhelmed in a couple of weeks.

Lonestar123 · 21/12/2021 20:42

Lonely Christmas for us too. Various family members who were meant to be visiting, tested positive yesterday 😭

ChocolateRiver · 21/12/2021 20:44

We’re isolating too. Ds (9) tested positive today too. Completely asymptotic we only found it because did a LFT as a precaution before seeing grandparents.
