Who will be isolating over Christmas? Dd tested positive this morning ☹️

Just feeling thoroughly cheesed off. Dd (9) has tested positive this morning 😫so we’re executing Christmas plan b (just as we did last year when she got notification to isolate at 6:30pm on Christmas Eve 🙄).

I know there are worse things to happen but…😫.

Had anyone else’s plans had to change?

@Alwaystheplusone

Can I have some advice? DH and both DCs have tested positive this morning. I’m negative but recovered from Delta a couple of weeks ago so presume I have lots of antibodies. Should I isolate from them for the next week or just think fuck it, let’s have a plague Christmas together?
It's easy for me because our positive case is our 3 year old so obviously we didn't contemplate distancing from him and just had to accept we couldn't and would probably get it, but I would vote plague Christmas too.
ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 22/12/2021 22:04

Brilliant news that the new isolation rules are for everyone 😄 hopefully a few more will benefit. We start home testing on Boxing Day.

We’d planned a family tea on the 27th which technically we’d be able to do if dd gets 2 negative lft but not sure if it’d feel right 😬.

I have been very confused about when actually is day 6/7
I thought that the day of the positive test would be day 1 which would have meant we could travel on Christmas Eve but it looks like the count starts from the day after the positive test which I find very confusing so Christmas Day is day 7 for us which is a bit shit. Especially since he had no symptoms and I am sure he would have been positive the day before if only I had tested him then.
We will do DS LFT tomorrow anyway along with everyone else's just to see whether to hold out any hope for Christmas Day.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 22/12/2021 22:54

My DC are with my ex this Christmas. I tested positive on Monday
, So an empty house! I was meant to be at my sister's but I can't darken their door now so it's a few days on my own now. How utterly shite.

bicyclesaredeathtraps · 22/12/2021 22:58

Yep, caught it on the 18th so I'm isolating until the 28th (not UK). Really shit as I'm in my flat alone, was supposed to have a family member visit and spend time with friends. I have a chronic illness and was really looking forward to being looked after a bit as well as obviously seeing people socially, now I'm ill and weak with no one here. We'll celebrate once I'm out of isolation, but it still sucks. Hugs to everyone in similarly rubbish situations.

The first day of symptoms or the day which you got a positive result is day 0.

Same here. Poor DD had a positive LFT yesterday, and we’re all waiting on PCR results. We’re staying with my mum who’s 72, and have been in contact with other grandparents and elderly friends 😬
LFT was neg the day before. 😔

tigerbear · 23/12/2021 09:15

It’s the second time DD has had it within 3 months. The first time was very similar situation, in that we’d traveled to stay with my mum for a big family event, which had to be cancelled due to DD testing positive, so poor DD feels terrible that she’s ruined everything again 😔

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 23/12/2021 09:26

DS tested negative today but it's officially day 5 and not day 6 today because of the stupid day 0

AndAllOurYesterdays · 23/12/2021 09:30

With the new rules we could technically be out of isolation on Boxing Day but I'm not confident about the negative lateral flows. DH did one yesterday and it was an immediate clear positive

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 23/12/2021 13:02

I’ve just found out that a friend has tested positive after coming over on Sunday and seeing dd 😫. I feel terrible! She’s been very anxious about covid so hasn’t really been anywhere else (no dc of her own either). Just waiting for mine and Ds’s results 🤞🏼.

Just DD and I now for Christmas as she got ill (not badly, just a cold) on Monday. My DM will now be alone but we said we'd do another Christmas Day nearer new year, presuming I don't get it. I've tested negative so far but I've cancelled all socialising other than going for a walk with a friend tomorrow. We've got a lot of food to get through!

I'm not sure how long I give it if I don't get symptoms of being confident I've not caught it from DD, the rules constantly changing is confusing.

MamaWeasel · 24/12/2021 13:56

Now dh has tested positive as well as grown up ds. Grown up dd is negative but is kicking off about how disrespectful her father and brother are being seemingly for daring to breathe around her I am not hopeful of avoiding it.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 24/12/2021 18:51

I’m so sorry @MamaWeasel ☹️

We tested positive on a LFT this morning. We thought we’d avoided it this time (all had covid over the summer). Can’t believe it! My parents were in the car on the way over. I honestly feel like crying!

Dontletthemuggglesgetyoudown · 25/12/2021 10:42

@toots111 oh no!

TheRealProfessorYaffle · 25/12/2021 10:48

NHS staff here joining the Christmas isolation gang! Isolating since patient tested positive yesterday and I was counted as a contact. Keeping chipper here and prepping lunch (scrolling Mumsnet) whilst the family are on the usual Christmas day walk. Keep healthy everyone! X

herecomesthsun · 25/12/2021 11:55

Hope you all stay well with it guys, and have a Happy Christmas!

TheGodWorm · 25/12/2021 12:19

Merry Christmas everyone! My son's day 6 is that. All I want for Xmas is a negative lft! Leaving it till tonight.

This is our seventh day stuck inside. The hardest thing today is watching all the relatives and friends turning up at neighbours for Xmas day... and trying not to think about what we had to cancel. It's extra hard because if gov ban indoors mixing my son won't now see any grandparents until end of March (as is being suggested on Sky News)

Kjcf · 25/12/2021 15:31

Why even bother testing. You can be negative in the morning and positive by the afternoon!

Titsywoo · 25/12/2021 15:47

Honestly I only tested due to having symptoms (am positive) and others I know are only doing it for the same reasons or due to being a close contact. I know I have already passed it to about 5 people (DH, staff member at our business and the 3 people she passed it to). This is with me wearing masks everywhere and not mixing with anyone except for work (staff member passed it to her mum and 2 neghbours and she is careful as she is CV). Is is spreading very easily and fast. Last year hardly anyone I knew had it but pretty much everyone does now!
Kjcf · 25/12/2021 16:28

I think everyone will end up catching it now!

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 25/12/2021 18:27

What rotten timing @toots111. I’m grateful we had a few days notice to get our heads round it and change our plans.

Dd is doing ok and it certainly hasn’t spoilt her day. Her appetite isn’t up to much but she enjoyed some dinner. Mum was a star and I collected our dinner from her (supposed to be going there for dinner) and I was a bit choked seeing all the family and the lovely table set. Still, we’re lucky that we’re all healthy s as no able to enjoy the day, just not in the way we hoped to.

I do hope everyone else was able to make the best of it.

Yes I’m absolutely trying to look on the bright side of it all. But we’re in London so didn’t get a family Xmas last year either and I think my mum is taking it really hard. She drove up anyway and sat in the garden for a bit. We’ll just do it again when we’re all testing negative. Now I just have to sell 6 lion king tickets for next week 😒
