Who will be isolating over Christmas? Dd tested positive this morning ☹️

Just feeling thoroughly cheesed off. Dd (9) has tested positive this morning 😫so we’re executing Christmas plan b (just as we did last year when she got notification to isolate at 6:30pm on Christmas Eve 🙄).

I know there are worse things to happen but…😫.

Had anyone else’s plans had to change?

Yes us. Adult DD just had a positive lateral flow.

StylishDuck · 21/12/2021 20:53

Yes us too. I tested positive last week and everyone else in house was negative. If they had stayed that way we would have got out on Thu but DH and DD tested positive on Monday after having symptoms but negative lat flows since Thu so we're in the house until Sun. I can still leave house on Thu so I'll be doing the top up food shop and getting us ready for another weekend of isolation.

TedMullins · 21/12/2021 21:09

Yep, tested positive today. I was going to visit my parents but Christmas will now just be me and my dog. I live on my own, no kids. I don’t mind, some friends have ordered food for me and have a few volunteers to walk the dog. I’m going to be doing a lot of painting (I do art as a hobby)

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/12/2021 21:18

Yep. Us too

We had actually packed up the car to go to the grandparents and were all hugely looking forward to seeing family especially after last year

I decided we should do the responsible thing and all do LFTs before we set off thinking it would just be nice extra reassurance and I was just devastated when DS tested positive (now PCR confirmed too)

He had no symptoms at the time although since developed a bit of a headache and cough. His class teacher and a couple of kids in his class had been off with it though. I guess I had been in denial but the risk and even a week ago it didn't seem as big a threat.

My first thought was oh bugger why did I test but if we had given grandad Covid in time for Christmas it would have been a whole lot worse.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/12/2021 21:22

My poor MIL looks likely to be in her own at Christmas despite having 4 kids. One lives overseas and unbelievably all the others have now got Covid positive DC despite us being at different ends of the country.
There's a lot of it about.

Bizawit · 21/12/2021 21:24

Yup . 2 year old tested positive on Sunday. I tested positive today. I was so looking forward to a big family Christmas this year after the shit show that was last year. Now I will be stuck on my own with a toddler and a newborn 😢.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 21/12/2021 21:31

DS2 tested positive Saturday. So visitors cancelled for Christmas day (morning o ky for present swap, not for dinner). DH is delighted, I'm not too bothered. Kids are a bit disappointed but not massively. I'd been expecting this so had most of the food in anyway and been picking up extras after work each day in case I get it.

stretchypants · 21/12/2021 22:22

Yes both DH and me tested positive on Friday, we decided not to test our 7 month old but assume he’s got it too, we’re jabbed n boostered and have mild symptoms but all Christmas plans cancelled and LOs first Christmas too 😢

drawthelatch · 21/12/2021 22:31

Us too. My partner has tested positive and is feeling rough despite being triple jabbed. I’ve got a cold, but negative PCR and lateral flows so probably have a round of Covid to look forward to in the next day or two. 3 year old is fine.

I’m 36 weeks pregnant and had been really looking forward to seeing all my mates and family before the baby comes. Ah well.

We’ve just had our big shop delivered luckily, and Hello Fresh coming on Christmas Eve too, so well stocked up.

Coasterfan · 21/12/2021 22:53

DS tested positive this evening, I am negative and then we ran out of lateral flows for DD and DH, I have ordered some more to collect in the morning and PCRs for us all as well. It doesn’t change our quiet family Xmas at home but it has ruined our trips to Legoland, the zoo and the drive in cinema as I doubt we ll get the PCR results before Xmas Eve. He had cold symptoms snd a blinding headache and the line came up after about ten mins so I m sure the PCR will be positive which will also mean our new year break will be cancelled too. So sorry for all of the ruined plans for everyone 😞

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/12/2021 22:59

Yes, DS had a positive lft yesterday and took a pcr this morning. I was supposed to be cooking for 10 on CD and more on BD, so we have the motherload of food just arrived and I’ve stuffed as much as I can into the freezer. I can’t honestly say I’m that bothered other than feeling a bit sad for FIL, but he’s fairly close and we’ll do something as soon as we’re out of the plague-zone.

Xmasgetaway · 21/12/2021 23:01

I am nervously awaiting my fit-to-fly PCR result - hoping to go to Barbados on Xmas eve and I’ll be gutted if I have the plague…….

daisybrown37 · 21/12/2021 23:07

Eldest is isolating following positive PCR yesterday - so Christmas plans with family are off.

Hope to rearrange for new year, but not sure if the guidance/ law will change or if H will get covid as the rest of us have had it in the last 2 weeks and he is still negative!

Whilst I would be happy to go against guidance (if we are all recovered or testing negative), family member will not.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/12/2021 07:43

Rule change announced this morning might just save Christmas for us

Isolation reduced from 10 to 7 days with 2 negative LFTs so

IF DS LFTs go negative
AND no-one else gets it
AND my family are OK with it

We can still go

Not sure if this is better or worse now as there are a lot of ifs and buts

Same for us - we could potentially 'get out' on Christmas Day but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. The rest of us are still testing negative but I'm trying to resign myself that we probably will and then our new year plans will be gone as well!

I think whatever happens we'll stick to our new plans and not go back to the old one for Christmas day - everyone has bought food in the expectation of that now (including us, and we were meant to be hosting) but it would be so nice just to be able to go out for a long walk on Christmas Day.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 22/12/2021 09:40

I got my hopes up when I saw that article but it says it’s only for double vaccinated people so won’t apply to my dd 😫😭. Hopefully it will helps lots of other people out though!

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/12/2021 11:02

It doesn’t get us free for Christmas either. I think I’m most upset at not being able to go to the RSC to see the Christmas play tomorrow night.

Alwaystheplusone · 22/12/2021 11:11

Can I have some advice? DH and both DCs have tested positive this morning. I’m negative but recovered from Delta a couple of weeks ago so presume I have lots of antibodies. Should I isolate from them for the next week or just think fuck it, let’s have a plague Christmas together?

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/12/2021 11:51

Oh crap does it not apply to children?
DS is under 12 so not eligible for a vaccine
Those of us who could be vaccinated have taken all the opportunities offered so 3 for adults and 1 for teen DD.

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/12/2021 12:51

@Alwaystheplusone I’d be inclined to throw in the towel and have a plague Christmas, but it depends on your individual circumstances. Alternatively you could isolate with the tv and chocolates…

ZoBo123 · 22/12/2021 12:57

I am sure I read that the isolation for 7 days is for everyone regardless of vaccination status. The ten day isolation for close contacts is for unvaccinated

Alwaystheplusone · 22/12/2021 12:59

Thanks Sock, I’m inclined to throw in the towel to hang out with them

User762980 · 22/12/2021 13:20

Very quiet Christmas for me and DH, adult DS just tested positive so won't be coming down to us now, hoping to rearrange for around New Year if we can, depends on what the restrictions are then

Bizawit · 22/12/2021 13:20

Plague Christmas 100%
