What is the floppy haired nitwit going to say now?Hmm

Oblomov21 · 20/12/2021 18:50

I can't believe he's done nothing.

aliceca · 20/12/2021 18:53

@the80sweregreat but he leaves business to flounder. And it is a massive gamble. What if figures are really high on 21st, 22nd and 23rd? Will he call a lockdown at that late stage? I doubt it. And people will have already travelled spreading the virus with them.
I hope his gamble pays off and it is really mild with few hospitalisations. But the fact that scientists like Whitty think we need restrictions really worries me.

the80sweregreat · 20/12/2021 18:58

Yes, I agree that the doctors and the scientists are really unhappy / concerned today , but they can only work with the data as it comes in ( Boris Johnson said hour by hour ) and how the hospitals are doing.
I know it must be so hard for hospitality.
Wes Streeting ( shadow health sec ) was being pushed on bbc news today about what he would do , he hasn't all the information in front of him either ! It was a silly question really.
What would any of us do ??

aliceca · 20/12/2021 19:02

But if they wait until the evidence is clear i.e. high deaths, it will be too late.

rrhuth · 20/12/2021 19:03

@OldaRailer

He really is rather piss poor.
Yes, quite. It is amazing what an absolute waste of space he has been.
rrhuth · 20/12/2021 19:04

@Oblomov21

I can't believe he's done nothing.
I know what you mean but he is utterly useless Sad
Guacamole001 · 20/12/2021 19:05

We will be four weeks this Friday since omicron was announced. Surely there will be enough data by then!

the80sweregreat · 20/12/2021 19:06

Oh he is piss poor , I'm not condoning any of it at all , but it's also very hard because the resistance to lockdowns is pretty overwhelmingly no.
That's how I see it anyway .
( not if you work for the NHS of course :(
Plus many experts do not agree either.

WindyState · 20/12/2021 19:14

@Oblomov21

I can't believe he's done nothing.
I can believe it entirely.

He's a useless twat. He's always been a useless twat.

aliceca · 20/12/2021 19:16

@Guacamole001

We will be four weeks this Friday since omicron was announced. Surely there will be enough data by then!
But the number of cases then were tiny, literally single numbers.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/12/2021 19:18

@the80sweregreat

The naked scientist Dr Chris Smith, was on bbc news and he sounded really annoyed ( he is normally much more laid back )
What did he say @the80sweregreat? I missed him.
GreenLunchBox · 20/12/2021 19:19

@Comedycook

The UK population are pathetic... waiting to hear if our dear leader will "let" us see our families or not...who cares anymore? If you're worried about covid then cancel your own Christmas, you don't need permission from Boris!
Haha, so true
Tealightsandd · 20/12/2021 19:22

As much as I really really dislike our scruffy liar of a PM I think his between a rock and a hard place with this , a run through any coronavirus thread on this forum is enough to show how much any lockdown restrictions are not wanted ( not by many people anyway !) many would not be on board with it.

You're right (rock and a hard place) for the wrong reasons. The let the bodies pile up brigade on these threads are not representative of the wider public. Various polls from different sources say the majority support a circuit breaker.

The rock and a hard place comes from lacking support from his own MPs - and not all of it due to their Covid policy. They're putting their game of thrones politics before national economy and public health.

Fortunately for Boris, if he's willing to swallow his pride (he might as well because the knives out for him won't go away until he's replaced....by someone worse, no doubt...).

Boris needs to accept the support from Labour. Keir Starmer has already demonstrated that he is ready to do the right thing and put country before politics (and that really is a strong leader willing to do that).

the80sweregreat · 20/12/2021 19:26

Dr Chris smith just looked fed up earlier on.
He admitted they don't have all the data yet and how hard restrictions are on people , but he just seemed a bit angry ? I think they are as frustrated as everyone else is and worried the nhs will be overwhelmed etc.
he is usually a bit more laid back, but it is worrying times too of course.,
I like him as he is generally a bit more down to earth than other scientists on tv.

newusernameforxmas · 20/12/2021 19:41

I'm truly fed up with the ambiguity.

We have Y11's needing to take exams in January. Can they happen or not? Currently yes, but hey, who gives a shit if he cancels it at the last minute. Just take a stance and stick with it, come hell or high water.

I dont want a lockdown but last week it was "Omicron is indiscriminate, dont think you cant get it, vaccination is the only way, its an emergency!!!"

This week its..."well we will wait and see...wash your hands and open a window."

Confused
Bunnyfuller · 20/12/2021 19:48

He ALWAYS does his u-turns at the 11th hour! He uses ‘won’t rule out….’ As his get out for one he plonks his latest too-fucking-late quick change.

He does have a clever balance of giving the people the responsibility. Keeps everyone happy and can blame them when it all goes wrong.

And where will the money come from to support businesses? That magic money tree they mocked Labour with?!

underneaththeash · 20/12/2021 19:48

FFS - Does everyone want to lock down? I bloody don't.

I rather that the stupid, selfish people who haven't been vaccinated were locked down, or rather not admitted to hospital rather than miss another Christmas - likely my mother's last.

And yes...I do know that some people are allergic to the components - but it's an incredibly small number in proportion to the number of unvaccinated.

Peaseblossum22 · 20/12/2021 19:52

Complete vacuum if leadership. Johnson is the PM , if cabinet can’t decide it’s up to him to take the final decision , not just shrug his shoulders and say ‘be careful’.

No one is in charge as far as I can see, or at least no one is taking decisions in the interest of the the country , they are all just navel gazing and positioning themselves for the inevitable leadership contest. Honestly I don’t think they have given a second thought to the millions of ordinary people out there is the country just trying to get on with their lives , they absolutely couldn’t care less if they tried.

OldaRailer · 20/12/2021 19:53

They can't relate.🤷

Tealightsandd · 20/12/2021 19:53

Wonder if Angela Merkel fancies a temporary job before she settles into retirement?

The issue is that many people who are double vaccinated can't get a booster soon enough - I was only able to get mine this week, many are behind me in the queue.

Not everyone at risk is in that position due to not vaccinating.

Two vaccines do only slightly more than fuck all.

A scientific mind in No.10 would be helpful.
