Carlos Marin. 53 years old and fully vaccinated.
Was admitted to an ICU in Manchester and died a short time later.

Very sad news, they were my mum’s favourites.

A bit scary that he was fully vaxxed and still ended up in ICU then died.

RIP.

Can we stop with the 'oh he must have had underlying issues' bullshit?

Well, I don't think people are trying to minimalize, just think we are all mindful of the fact that every time a vaccinated person dies of COVID this sometimes gets weaponized to imply that "see the vaccine doesn't make any difference" and similar rubbish.

grapewine · 20/12/2021 00:46

This is incredibly sad. I love their music.

ChristmasCovid · 20/12/2021 01:13

@OakPine

QUICK PANIC! Some randoms on mumsnet are trying to stir panic by quoting some shite from the daily mail!
Heartless.
notangelinajolie · 20/12/2021 01:48

So sorry to read this. Too young to die.

Il Divo performed on a cruise we were on a few years ago and they were amazing.

Crystalvas · 20/12/2021 02:32

I guess now it really is time to say goodbye. He had an amazing sound with il divo. Thank you for the music Carlos RIP.

53 years old, it’s very sad. Even if he had underlying conditions. There’s a huge chunk of the population that have “underlying” conditions at that age. It doesn’t mean that it’s their time to go - majority of those conditions are managed by modern medicine.

Condolences to his family and friends. Any other speculation should really be left alone. Whatever our views, this thread should not be the place for them.

Grumpysister · 20/12/2021 03:06

Very sad news. Covid is such a weird disease - I’m 50, tested positive on Thursday in a routine lateral flow, confirmed by PCR, and don’t have any symptoms at all. Double vaxxed, (had booster at the beginning of last week) and no underlying conditions but still.
Such a waste Sad

milkyaqua · 20/12/2021 03:11

According to Professor Cassandra Szoeke 80% of the population over 50 have two or more comorbidities or diseases at the same time (ie 'underlying conditions').

These 'underlying conditions' are both common, and mostly treatable (like high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes) or well-managed (like asthma or high cholesterol).

It’s incredibly sad that someone has died at a fairly young age.

There are multiple threads on here where varying opinions can be voiced. I don’t think that this thread is the place to get into debate.

milkyaqua · 20/12/2021 05:01

Er. I'm not debating. Just saying it is not unusual to have an underlying condition.

Absolutely! Sorry, wasn’t directing that viewpoint at you. Was trying (obviously not very well) to put the point across that other people trotting out the “they had underlying conditions “ is not ok.
milkyaqua · 20/12/2021 05:08

Even more bizarre, my post actually backs up yours. This poor man - without Covid - should have looked forwards to another 40-odd years, using his gift for singing, and living his life.

milkyaqua · 20/12/2021 05:10

Oh, okay. Crosspost!

Furries · 20/12/2021 05:26

No worries, I’d obviously not phrased my post very well.

Factually his family and colleagues have not released the cause of death. Shit publications like the Mail are quoting its Covid like it’s fact. Simply because some Spanish paper speculated on it. And it’s causing a frenzy.

This man deserves his privacy in death. It may well be Covid, but it’s may well not be. The public do not know.

Agreed.

Perhaps the title of the post should be changed if it's speculation.

100% correct

Rosejasmine · 20/12/2021 08:48

Really tragic to die if this being apparently healthy, vaccinated and young.
I read he’d been vaccinated in Mexico, and they are one of the countries that have relied heavily on the less effective Sinovac vaccine. Might not be the case that he was given that, but it might be a contributing factor.

It might also be nothing to do with Covid.
flyingthrnest · 20/12/2021 09:32

From sky news:

"Marin was reportedly taken to hospital in Manchester in recent days and was thought to be in an intensive care unit, though his cause of death nor the nature of his illness has yet been revealed"

Nothing mentioned about vaccine status or covid so I wouldn't believe what the daily Mail say.

Eggshausted · 20/12/2021 11:43

What he died as a result of and if he had chosen to be vaccinated is irrelevant. For fucks sake.

RoseAndRose · 20/12/2021 11:52

@LittleRoundRobin

WOW how sad. Surely there must have been underlying issues though.. ?
No, not necessarily.

When people say its rare, that means it still does really happen.

We don't know for sure, of course, but there is a desperate wish to 'other' deaths. Because it's really hard to face the possibility that deaths really do occur in the young and previously healthy

RIP
