Anyone else regret stuff they didn’t get done before a possible lockdown?

I’ve had a tooth niggling away at me for months now. It’s just got a lot more sore today and I’m worried I won’t get into a dentist if everything locks down.

WHY didn’t I go when I could? I mean, I’m a bit shit about the the dentist anyway but I should have bloody foreseen this and gotten over my fear and gone.

Anyone want to keep me company with any other regrets?

Yep. Every lockdown. Haircut and dentist mainly.

DoctorSnortles · 19/12/2021 16:14

Teeth here, too. A temporary filling I've had in for two years (I am also shit at going to the dentist) is disintegrating and it feels like the whole tooth is one Quality Street away from coming out.

StartingGrid · 19/12/2021 16:15

Had my hair cut week before last, didn't really need it but didn't want to get to the stage where I lopped off half a ponytail again!

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 16:15

There might not be a lockdown!..
I don't think they will do one like they did before anyway. It'll be lockdown lite.

RedToothBrush · 19/12/2021 16:20

Nope.

Scarby9 · 19/12/2021 16:26

I went to the dentist and hygienist last week - which I didn't manage last time.
Haven't had a haircut though, and - worse - cancelled my mum's appointment for Christmas Eve so we can take her away for three nights. She is already complaining about the state of her hair, and the next appointment is not until 7 January. Or not even then if there is a post-Christmas lockdown.

Howshouldibehave · 19/12/2021 16:28

Yes-hilights!

Rainallnight · 19/12/2021 16:33

Ah I did get my hair done (see? Really a bit about the dentist) but sympathies to all struggling with roots.

I’m kind of glad I’m not the only dentist dodger but sorry so many are suffering.

I am slightly wondering, if we see more years of this, if we will begin to plan our year around winter lockdowns? Like if your 40th was due to be in January, would you hold your party in the summer?

Despite the dental shit show in the first lockdown they remained open for lockdown two and three.

XenoBitch · 19/12/2021 16:44

Pre-covid, I did things like sit in cafes and doodle... it got me out the house and kept me busy and out or trouble.
I had a massive breakdown this year, and was hoping to build up to doing it again. I didn't, and not it is looking like I wont be allowed to.
I know it seems like a silly little thing, but it is pretty major to me.

TerraNovaTwo · 19/12/2021 16:46

No. They're talking about having a 2 week 'circuit breaker'. The more lockdowns there are, the fewer hairdressers, etc there will be. I plan on either cutting my own hair or growing it out. Have just recently had a dental checkup and all was okay. DC have appointments this week, so they'll hopefully get those in time.

LegoPandemic · 19/12/2021 16:49

Dentist here: apart from the first lockdown March-June 2020, we are working.
It’s very busy as usual for the week before a load of bank holidays but it isn’t because of lockdown. If anything I am expecting cancellations this week of routine appointments.

Hulahula86 · 19/12/2021 17:07

I’m up to date with my Botox that’s about the only little luxury I missed but o don’t think they’ll be a lockdown

My mum had her 75th this year (in November). She held her party in August.

Have I missed something m? I've been trying to avoid the news. Are we going into lockdown

LegoPandemic · 19/12/2021 17:30

@junebabyaprilboy
No one knows but it’s likely some restrictions will happen before 2022.

GoodnightGrandma · 19/12/2021 17:32

I’m not sure that dentists would close.
Unless they restart furlough many places can’t afford to close.

DuesToTheDirt · 19/12/2021 17:35

Climb Kilimanjaro. I got the idea into my head a couple of years before Covid, but DH chose the next holiday (UK) and then we were in lockdown. I'm in my mid-50's so every year that passes makes it less likely to happen.

Kshhuxnxk · 19/12/2021 17:37

Our dentist is still only doing emergencies (Scotland). But they will do a scale and polish for £25.

DuesToTheDirt · 19/12/2021 17:42

Ah yeah, dentist. Mine didn't even answer the phone for about 18 months Hmm. I now have an appointment for January, we'll see what happens with that.

JustJustWhy · 19/12/2021 17:44

@RedToothBrush

Nope.
This.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/12/2021 17:49

Will the dentist shut down though? In the first lockdown it was a bit different as nobody was jabbed and they hadn’t put systems in place for working relatively safely.
I would think a bigger risk is appointments being cancelled due to someone in the practice testing positive which is what has happened with mine (luckily only dd still had to see him).

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/12/2021 17:50

Not silly at all. These things are important x

Fingers crossed any lockdown will be short.

LegoPandemic · 19/12/2021 17:52

Dentists will categorically not close again. I promise!
Individuals may have to self isolate though.
We are really busy. Booking months ahead.
The workforce will be decimated when the must be vaccinated thing comes in. Not actual dentists who are in the main educated, sensible people and are therefore nearly all triple jabbed. The people we work with though- apparently a decent percentage unvaccinated! Although mine are all jabbed because mine are amazing.

Best thing to do. At the moment it's pure speculation.
