Anyone else regret stuff they didn’t get done before a possible lockdown?

I’ve had a tooth niggling away at me for months now. It’s just got a lot more sore today and I’m worried I won’t get into a dentist if everything locks down.

WHY didn’t I go when I could? I mean, I’m a bit shit about the the dentist anyway but I should have bloody foreseen this and gotten over my fear and gone.

Anyone want to keep me company with any other regrets?

@LegoPandemic but ours hasn't even opened yet!

FanGirlX · 19/12/2021 17:58

I feel like I've been out to appointments after appointments over the last 3 months:

Booster vaccine
Flu vaccine
Opticians - 12 months late and needed new glasses as my eyes have worsened significantly
Dentist - 2 years since my last check up, check up, fix a broken filling and hygienist.
Hairdresser - cut on Friday

Glad I got that lot done, only things outstanding are a smear test (3.5 years since last one) and a pedicure (I'm a runner and hiker so my feet look like claws 🤣).

My whole team at work have been popping out for appointments though, we all have had a backlog like the above because we basically couldn't get seen for anything except an emergency for 18 months.

Mindymomo · 19/12/2021 18:02

We’ve all had haircuts last week, mine quite short so should last a while. A huge big filling in tooth broke off last month, so that’s been filled. I really need to go to opticians as it’s well overdue, but will now wait.

LegoPandemic · 19/12/2021 18:04

@Kshhuxnxk
Find a new dentist. Go private as the NHS isn’t long for this world 😂

Climb Kilimanjaro. I got the idea into my head a couple of years before Covid, but DH chose the next holiday (UK) and then we were in lockdown. I'm in my mid-50's so every year that passes makes it less likely to happen.
My Uncle climbed Kilimanjaro for his 60th birthday. You’ve got time!

My DIL is a dentist and has remained working and will
continue to do so, fear not in need tooth people

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 19/12/2021 18:08

I got a smear done just after the first lockdown and my nurse laughed at me as I wore one of my favourite dresses and a full face of makeup. Told her it was the only occasion I'd had recently to dress up. Actually made the smear better as we had a good laugh about it and then I ended up chatting to her for 15 minutes after and it was heaven to have face to face conversation with someone who wasn't my husband.

My dentist cancelled my appointment two weeks before the first lockdown as he had symptoms. Now overdue for the dentist but no issues. Recently had my hair done, eyebrows, eyelashes and got my nails being done next week. I'll stop having my nails done if we go into a lockdown but no big loss as no-one to see them.

But I don't care about any of it as long as I get to see my family at Christmas.

tangyandsalty · 19/12/2021 18:10

Yes, I'm wishing we had buggered off abroad for a couple of weeks earlier in the year. We couldn't be bothered with the testing and felt confident we would get away in spring 2022. I'm no longer feeling confident.

Get my gel nails taken off! Does anybody know how I can do this myself? I literally cannot get to a salon

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 18:15

From what I’ve read it’s mostly focussing on social mixing anyway

And outside hospitality

Soak acetone in cotton wool then put on nail with foil wrapped around it.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Will the dentist shut down though? In the first lockdown it was a bit different as nobody was jabbed and they hadn’t put systems in place for working relatively safely. I would think a bigger risk is appointments being cancelled due to someone in the practice testing positive which is what has happened with mine (luckily only dd still had to see him).
Ours has never reopened for anything but emergencies Hmm I have a 6yo who hasn’t been checked since he was 4 but they say there’s nothing they can do as it’s still the regulations in this area.
TerminallyIndecisive · 19/12/2021 18:22

Yep. Opticians. I need new glasses, I have a big scratch across mine which is really annoying and right in my eyeline... Need an eye test too though too check the prescription and don't really fancy being shut in the little room right now (ECV). Should have done it in October Sad

Trinacham · 19/12/2021 18:23

Had my haircut done yesterday! It was more of a 'I need to do it before baby is born' as I'm due next month but glad I did because of possible lockdown too! They fit me in last minute as there'd been a cancellation - phew! I don't think there's anything else 🤔

reallyworriedjobhunter · 19/12/2021 18:25

I'm in the middle of a clear out so getting as much stuff to the charity shop as possible so I don't have to look at boxes of things to pass on if shops close.

Getting the kids desks tidied and ready for home school. Ugh.

Getting some new wellies for Christmas for walks.

Bobholll · 19/12/2021 18:54

I’m getting my hair done next week, just in case 😂 we moved seeing Santa to today instead of Christmas Eve in case Boris cancels Christmas!

Otherwise, I think I’m all good..

Suranjeep · 19/12/2021 19:07

@Kshhuxnxk

Our dentist is still only doing emergencies (Scotland). But they will do a scale and polish for £25.
My dentist is emergency only as they are too busy, unless you pay private and suddenly they aren’t so busy…….🤔
Oblomov21 · 19/12/2021 19:18

Nope. Up to date with everything. I always keep on top of everything.
Why not phone them tomorrow instead of delaying any further.

I definitely need an eye test and new glasses, I"ve put it off as I think masks have to be worn and that just won't work for me.

Svara · 19/12/2021 20:19

I need to get things to the charity shop before they shut for Christmas

Yes you just need to soak in acetone (nail polish remover) for about half an hour
DockOTheBay · 19/12/2021 20:29

Both times when we locked down, I wished I had seen family before. We cancelled seeing my family in February 2020 as the weather was bad for driving down, no problem we would see them at the end of March anyway...

And then in December, I would have met them outside at the beginning of December if I had known that our "for 5 days you can meet two other households" would be cancelled at the eleventh hour.

Eredoor · 19/12/2021 20:34

Dentist was only closed in the first lockdown and just after until they sorted out the PPE, I have been as normal since then.

SwumMum · 19/12/2021 20:36

We've done a charity shop, recycling centre and tip run today - we didn't before the last lockdowns and the clutter in the garage drove us nuts!

I was so looking forward to a hair cut and colour in January and I can't see it happening now :(

breadwidow · 19/12/2021 20:36

For me, it's the non essential stuff like going to exhibitions and seeing people. I had tickets for the Alice in wonderland @ v&a (sold out) in nov and didn't go, moved booking til last possible day (NYE), and now looks like I will miss out. And last time I put off seeing a few friends out of laziness really and then didn't see them for months. I'm hoping to use this argument to encourage my DH to stick with Xmas plans if we can (if there is no lockdown before Xmas). He wants to cancel I think, out of concern for spreading virus. We are all testing negative so far and will continue to test before we go to them Xmas eve. I think if we are clear we should go as otherwise it may be months again.
